Why do we keep going back to him. Cut by other teams. He can't even make another team and he is starting for us.

This is a bad job by front office,

Can a corner we have move to safety?

We are not beating good teams with him unless we out score them!

Allen is a sound safety, he will be fine. He's not an ideal starting option because he's so short term, but he's the only one we have at this moment. I think we screwed up drafting Dupree instead of Landon Collins, but that's just me.

No, a corner we have will not be able to play SS for us. Maybe one could play free alright, but I'm not willing to change someone's position 3 days before game time.

Allen starting instead of Shamarko is great news for our defense.

Because the Steelers DBs are a train wreck in progress.

How is Allen starting instead of Shamarko great news? To me it means that, in his third year, Thomas isn't ready to take the next step in his career which is a terrible sign for the Steelers. If the switch doesn't come on after three years, the potential for busthood increases significantly.

Clearly there is an issue developing young safeties... We had to go outside the organization to get Mitchell, and Clark before him.

It is disappointing Shamarko hasn't progressed, but I thought Robert Golden would have become starter capable too. There is a trend there.

Not good news. I wanted Marcus Peters who is starting in KC. The Defensive news just keeps on getting worse...

Wow, Will Allen should not be a starting safety in the NFL.
Shamarko is looking like a work out warrior and not a football player.

I said it once and I would say it again...I would've switch Spence to safety and cut W. Allen and kept chick this year...or kept Soto and hojo last year

Spence at Safety? I just don't see anyway that could work.

I'll admit I don't know a whole lot about Spence, but I don't think he's capable of playing safety.

The Steelers did convert an undersized linebacker to safety with great success a couple of decades ago and he's now coaching the DBs for the team. I don't know if it would work with Spence, but at this point I'm receptive to some out of the box thinking.

Way out of the box.....there was some discussion to playing Spence at safety when he was first drafted but probably 20lbs and a shredded up knee have eliminated any chances of that. Our secondary woes continue....

I think that might work with Shazier but Spence is too slow.

A big part of being a good safety is being in the right place. Mitchell and Shamarko are fast but .............

You should be thankful we have Will Allen on the roster for emergencies like this one. He isn't a fantastic player or anything but considering the situation, Allen is currently the only thing that may prevent the D giving up a half dozen 60 yard TD's a game with Shamarko in there.

Don't get me wrong, Allen has been a sufficient stop gap the last couple of seasons. The point is that Thomas is now in his third season and has failed to step up his game to the next level. He seems to have the talent but I'm concerned about his football IQ at this point.

Why so he can stay way deep and get beat underneath. Or try and play up and show how slow he is and get ran by. We need something other than steady to get beat.

Sorry, but our unwilling to play young people keeps them from learning how to play.

We just always go back to steady but not good enough.

Dang Peters looked good the game I watched in preseason. I was against Peters pre-draft, but the commentators said he has fit in well with his KC teammates and staff. And his attitude was the biggest question mark. I guess we'll see how their gamble pays off.

It's great news because the defense as a unit will be better with Allen on the field than they will be with Shamarko out there. It's bad news in regard to the future at S since Shamarko turned out to be a poor safety... I was hoping Thomas could become a starter for us, and hopefully even a really good one. Apparently that isn't going to happen though.

I just meant that it was great news that we won't be trotting "Touchdown" Thomas out as our starting SS this season. That is all.

They played plenty this Pre Season. Did that really inspire you with confidence that they should be forced in there on week 1 when it counts? If so, I'm not sure I understand your logic. Based on what I saw, if those same young guys were on the field, the Pats might very well put up about 70 points on Thursday night.

He's a darn good football player. Always in the right spot. He's no 4.3 guy, but he makes up for it with his good angles and football IQ. Excellent in the box too. Would've been a great pick!
