Sorry @KnoxVegasSteel, the longest non-gameday threads are the hall of fame thread and the superbowl thread.

Kidding. The Walking Dead and Game of thrones threads in the Watercooler, followed by 'what if the Steelers deflated balls' and this one. :)

Unfortunately we ran into a situation where our backup QB was lost for the season. I think most would agree Landry Jones could not be considered as a backup if something ever happened to Ben.

The other part of the problem is that there are few competent QBs available on the market. I have read/heard that having a Mike Vick on your roster forces defenses to prepare as if he could enter the game even if he never does.

I am sure the Steelers brass did their homework before signing Vick. They must figure the positives outweigh the negatives.

I'd prefer that we had not signed Vick, however, I'm not as outraged as some are. I think Vick is a quality backup, although I do hope he never steps foot on the field.

I don't think it's impossible that if a quality backup eventually gets cut from around the league that we wouldn't take him and dump Vick. I think it's unlikely but it could happen.

OK let's get back to football. From what I read yesterday he looked good. His arm looks strong as well. Haley also said no matter what Ben will not come off the field for Vick. There will be no special plays for him even in the 2 point category. Here was winded yesterday but that is to be expected. Tomlin said he will judge where he is at Saturday and determine them if he plays.

I kind of hope to see a few Vick packages.....guy is still fast...and the fact that he is a lefty flips the field a little on defending him......a could see some 2 pt packages.

and my last comment on VICK

it is not that some posters on the board say well he paid his crime and deserves a second chance.......none of us has any say in the matter.

Its that the United States Government says he has done his time and is now allowed back into society and once again has all rights to live his life
Its that the National Football league says he has done his time and is now allowed back onto the field and earn a living playing football.

We all think what he did was horrible...(as best as I read....I didnt read every post) but what we think...does not mean a thing in....and the arrogance that is sometimes stated...in the "well...I think this..and the world should back me up on it" is simply wrong.

I am not saying you are wrong for thinking it...You are most likely right.....but its not about being right...its about living in the world and following the rules that have been placed upon you by the Govt and if you believe God.

One says he is now free to live his life...the other says to forgive..,,.,.and neither really takes your thoughts into consideration

Well Vick is saying all the right things. He candidly answered every question the reporters asked him. Said he tries not to pay attention to the protestors because it really brings him down and he wants to be at his best for the Steelers. Said its great to back up a future HOFer. Ended it by saying all he wants to do is make the Rooneys, the locker room, and the fans proud.

The young lady with the petition about Michael Vick, stated she has 15000+ signatures, I would make her prove it, character destruction is alive and well in today's society and if she can't I think the Steelers have pretty good attorneys to take care of the public opinion of their players when it is proven not to be correct!

This used to be a proud, respected, beloved franchise. Now we are vilified. It was bad enough having a QB accused of rape... And even though I believe he is innocent, plenty of NFL fans hold it against him and the Steelers. Maybe some of you do not see or hear about it, since you live in Pittsburgh and are sheltered from all the negativity towards the Steelers, but it's out there, unlike ever before. Winning isn't going to cure it either. For a franchise skating on thin ice, I just can't believe they would go and do something as foolish and negligent as signing a convicted sadistic dog killer. I just couldn't imagine this happening 10+ years ago.

I agree with everything you said! The thing I have noticed the most with this signing is how it has divided our fan base in a really bad way. I was on a FB page and simply responded to a guy who said anyone who doesn't support Vick "isn't a true fan" and I literally had 30 insults thrown my way in under a minute- all from people assuming I didn't want Vick in Pittsburgh (which I never said or denied). I had one guy tell me that I should "go back to the kitchen because football is a man's game" lol

He is a Steeler so either get over it or get over the team. Those are your choices please choose one and stick with it.

I live 10 minutes from the PA/MD line. I am surrounded by Baltimore fans, including my in-laws and worst of all my brother in-law who is a huge Ravens fans. To be honest I haven't heard anything from him. There is negativity out there towards every franchise. Like I said earlier, the "Steelers Way" only exist when it doesn't effect winning or the bottom line. The NFL is a business.

I'll add this disclaimer too- I think Mike Vick is a terrible person and when he did was incredibly sick. Does it bother me that the Steelers signed him as a back up quarter back? No. There are sick people from top to bottom all across the NFL.

OK Fanforlife you disagree. What other choice do you have? You can either get over the fact that he is a Steeler or you can stop watching and following them. All the bitching and complaining and name calling doesnt and won't change anything. People keep talking about the Steelers way. Well part of the Steelers way is the Rooneys could give two ****s about what fans think and want. They are going to to do what is best for the football team. So like I said either get over it or get over the team I don't see what other choice you have. Either this bothers you enough to stop watching or it doesn't.

I'm not sure those are all the choices, you know.

Reducing this to an either/or is a surefire way to create more antagonism than is necessary. If not, it's certainly the way for this thread to never, ever end.

Aye. Seems like there might be one or two other options hiding in the ether.

Also, it took me a second to realize what the response was to. I don't think I've see anyone do that yet.

I do disagree and the choices I have are none of your business. Your so far overboard on this it would be amusing if it weren't annoying.

I've waited a while to weigh in on this.

Vick was punished for his crimes eight years ago. That's a long time. As heinous as his acts were, Vick can't be punished any more than he already has been. He has not been in trouble since and has worked (hard?) to rehabilitate his image and get back on the straight and narrow. That's all we can ask of people. I can only judge the actions in Vick's past as just that: his past. The man the Steelers signed is NOT the man who abused dogs, or so it seems. He's a renewed man.

Fans are free to protest and voice their disappointment. But I think there are a lot worse people the Steelers could have signed and a lot worse people the Steelers have actually kept on their roster over the years.

What ***** and moan and talk about how horrible the Steelers are while you sit there and watch them yeah that sounds like fun. And you can call me annoying or whatever but at least I'm man enough to say how I feel about it and not hide behind a disagree button.

@TheSteelHurtin2188 it's great that you are super ok.with Vick being on the team but some of us are going to need some time to adjust so perhaps a bit less of the get with it or get rolled by it and a bit more of the understanding you are asking us to have with Vick

What I'm saying is nothing we say or do is going to change the fact that he is on the team. So either deal with it or move on.
