i don't think spence is going anywhere. chick is the only wild card this year.

moats,jj, harrison, dupree. spence, williams, lt, shazier, garvin. chick has looked good so far but i'm not sure he or hojo have done enough to not go to the PS. i'm just saying garvin has outplayed zumwalt for that spot. spence is playing like spence so far. williams is the guy we need to see.

garvin saw the field early on defense before he got burned in coverage for a td either last year or the year before. he didn't play another snap except for ST's from then on that i'm aware of. this year he's gotten physical in camp and we will have to see if his coverage has picked up. spence and williams passed him since then, but this year he's looking better all around and williams hasn't played. it will be interesting to watch what they think of garvin and if he's come far enough to warrant getting back on the field in the defensive rotation again.

we also have the st's to worry about. who dresses on game day? we will probably want some speed on st's and not dress an over abundance of LB'ers over cb's or safeties or te's or extra wr's. all this weighs into who they keep. other positions could dictate how many lb'ers we keep. harrison probably won't play st's. will allen? spaeth? archer? d.williams? this could be 5 guys on game day that won't be on coverage teams anytime soon so it limits us. start subtracting guys off of those units that won't be playing and it gets lean quickly.

Fort is from the University of Northern Iowa. He was a stud while he played there but it seems that he is getting bounced around a bit. Probably will be done after camp but he is a heck of a LB.

thanks jim. yea i looked him up and yes he was. actually in 2011 he was national defensive player of the year. he played in your neck of the woods. he's that shazier, garvin, spence type of guy. he's got a little bit of safety in him as a lb. he had one start for the brownies a couple of years ago and is a pretty decent st's guy. has bounced around a good bit through the nfl.

Glad you noticed that. I've been trying to find a way to sneak that remote possibility in for weeks and keep canceling the posts out. But since I do believe the 7 I mentioned were also pretty much all board consensus choices it did leave JJ in there with the other 4.

I do think he gets this 3rd year and many fans even those who are not sold are rooting for him. However, there is some precedent for high draft picks to be let go. Zo Zo 2nd rounder let go after year 2. Huey Richardson only lasted 1 year.

I would love to see Fort come in and be a Cinderella story but I am biased because I watched him in college.

Maybe I am alone but does anyone see garvin leaving. The only reason is the recent jump that Ian Wild has made. I say this because garvin is a special teams guy, we all know that. Wild is in the same mold but flipped. Wild has been playing ILB and has seen PLENTY of SP reps.

You know how much the steelers love position versatility and i see garvin leaving.

jj, bud, moats, harrison, chic, timmons, shaz, vinny, spence, Shayon Green ( I think they like him a lot ), and wild (saftety and emergency ILB, SP)

People must be seeing something that I'm not with Shayon Green.

He made a good case for himself. Not quite HoJo's contributions last year, and he didn't make the final 53... let's see how Fort plays next week, if he's still here.

Sometimes they do. Last year they opened the season with 8. Worilds, Shazier, Timmons and J. Jones started. Backed up by Moats, V. Williams, Spence and Garvin.

Just a casual fan here but from last year the players I absolutely would keep are Timmons, Shazier, V. Williams and Moats. Garvin I like a lot, even though he was primarily valuable on ST. So Harrison and a 2015 rd1 pick makes 7. Since there are 12 on the depth chart if they keep 9 two from this group gets it. J. Jones, Spence, H. Jones, Chickillo, S. Green.

I don't think I've seen anything from HoJo or Shayon Green to say they'd displace anyone above them in the depth chart. Yet. That might change if injuries occur.

Jarvis Jones was on the nfl.com highlight film. Is this not what everyone [pro and con] wanted to see? JJ showed toughness and determination and got it done. I'm surprised there are not a lot of threads on this. Was his overall play similar?

The video was the 1st one on the Steeler video page on nfl.com. Titled " Can Wheaton be TS starting 2nd receiver". The address on the page was as follows, but as usual for that site lots of things don't work.

Well, anyway that simplifies the LB situation for me. 1. Harrison, Timmons, Shazier, Moats, V. Williams, Dupree, Garvin, [my initial 7]+ J.J. and Spence.

    HoJo, Green and Chickillo PS.

Hmm! It looks like its back to square 1. I have nine now. What if only 8 are kept?

For the amount of snaps they are giving him, I haven't seen much either. HoJo has been a bigger disappointment to me after last year's preseason performance. I thought maybe he would have made some bigger strides.

I'm anxious to see what Fort can do in tonight's game. He had some nice plays vs Green Bay from the little I saw.

I wonder if Wild will go back to safety more now with Fort in there.

    I
It maybe that HoJo's showing had more to do with some incredible luck, right place right time versus the right players and.this year it isn't so much taking that next step as it is a more realistic picture of what should have been seen last season. A player excelling at times against guys like himself trying to make the team but really raw. Might be why he wasn't snatched off the PS squad because teams knew what he was and not the camp warrior we fans made him out to be.

he was the recipient of other guys making plays last year. the guy that came from GB made the sacks and caused the fumbles and he was cut. hojo as you said was the guy in the right place at the right time. our trouble is we need bodies that can play inside backer right now. moats has always had trouble at buffalo bouncing back and forth between the outside and inside. he is better on the outside and i hope they leave him there. fort could be cut and signed after the first game if needed at a lesser, more team friendly contract if he's still needed then. hopefully not.
