Not spectacular. There was some pass rush, but not a huge amount, and there seemed to me to be some really bad angles and overpursuit, which gave them more yards than they should have got. My view is that they look like a work in progress that should - should - be ready to go for Week 1.

It's only preseason, but what I was focusing on is one on one battles with our pass rushers. I think we are going to struggle again with a consistent pass rush unless we blitz. I wanted to see if Moats, Harrison, Dupree and Jones could get to the quarterback. I think Harrison was the only one who has a sack at this point where he beat his man to the quarterback. Again, it's only preseason but I'll continue to look at this area as I believe it is vital to our success.

I'm with you there was push, but it looked to be totally haphazard the way it was happening. JJ continually lost contain and took bad angles to the QB. Most of those guys were not creating things, just reacting and getting sucked into misdirection very easily.

    James Harrison ---

“I can’t give you anything that we did good. We need to go out there and beat the man in front of us. And we need to make and secure tackles. Point blank period. I didn’t see anything that we did really too well to be honest.”

We can't get pressure with 3 DL that's for sure . When we go Cover 2 shell our Safeties look horrid .Bad spacing , poor angles , losing sight of guys coming into their zone , lack of communication . Basically everything you can do wrong is what they did ,Shamarko lead that charge . I have a real concern about that spot .

All the Jacksonville QBs ended up looking good I think.

This is not new that Jones has lost contain and takes bad angles. It's a good thing they signed Harrison, seemed to be the only one on Defense to make some plays. Going to watch the game after work today. For those who have NFL Network it's going to be on at 1 EST.

They made the Jacksonville quarterbacks look like Joe Montana I fear with Tammy Bradys going to do to them

and looked like JH wasn't giving it his all at times and he still looked better than JJ

it's bothersome to keep up with the Joneses on this team

Also having 2 shattered glass guys as safeties won't work. Put the hungry kids in I don't care

I think the coaches are doing exactly what you are supposed to do during training camp/preseason...that's , to evaluate talent and to find that perfect mixture or continuity... and have that unit ready for the regular season. I can't wait for this to come to fruition. We are going to surprise a lot of folks on defense

    I
I love your optimism and would like to believe it. However, bad angles and poor tackling seems to throw in a curve. Shazier led the team in tackles, I'm thinking he is going to be something good.

Pre season I know but do our OLBs know what the word contain means. They have been biting on play action fakes for the last 3-4 years. Man that hope we are holding on to a better bag of tricks than we have shown so far. Also our DL stunts are painfully inept, slow and misguided. Isn't the idea supposed to be to stunt towards the QB not dancing parallel to the LOS.......better find a way to dial up the pressure or it will get ugly for us.

they had to hold mclendon on almost every play. they did flag them for it at least once. he looks like a beast if they have to do that so much. thats a good sign.

we need much better safety play. this is going to be our sore spot as i've said since last year. it's not really been addressed.

They need to call it every time.. Holding is a penalty. If he gets held that much refs should be penalizing their asses everytime

This is probably gonna sound weird but I can deal with no sacks. I can deal with no picks. I can deal with no fumbles. But what I CAN'T deal with is the fact that we can't get off the field! The more chances you give ANY NFL team the more chances you give yourself to lose. I said it when DL was still here and I'm still saying it now. The problem was not DL's defense. The problem was the lack of talent in relation to how good our d was when we were winning titles. Shazier looked a lot better last night but we have no depth whatsoever. IF we can turn this defense around in the next couple of years I am absolutely positive we will get another trophy because for as bad as our defense looked our offense looked really great.

I agree about the safeties and I realize that Mitchell wasn't out there but I really don't think he's a difference maker. Also Timmons didn't play and Williams didn't play but I'm not sure they can make THAT much of a difference either. We just don't seem to have any playmakers like we've grown so accustomed to.
