Tomlin calling Sushi's knee injury 'potentially significant'.

Sad to hear anyone getting injured of course but, it's not like our kicker is great. He misses a lot of easy ones, and his leg strength is way below average. Thank God there are hundreds of kickers out there who can make 50 + yarders with ease.

Not great? Is he not one of the most accurate kickers the Steelers have had?

His stats as well as most of the league would disagree with that. He's pretty unanimously viewed around the league as a very good kicker.

We're screwed Suisham left on crutches, he was the only kicker in camp. Why is he out there trying to make a tackle in a preseason game.?

That's what I want to know. I love that he's a tackling kicker. I'm sure he takes pride in it, and he's good at it. But it's preseason, and that guy was going out of bounds. Don't ruin your career and hurt our season.

So, now what? I assume after getting kicked out of the HOF game quadzilla is certainly not on speed dial (not that I think he was anyway). Who do they try? Do they go after an established name? Maybe they should do open tryouts again? After all, that's how they found Reed?
And on the subject of kickers, I've always wondered why a team can't find someone who can both kick and punt. I understand the mechanics are different, but still, I just don't understand why two roster spots need to be taken up for two different players. Would you be willing to tradeoff a little bit of distance (or accuracy) if that means you could use that roster spot elsewhere?

For one season only, older vets, Shayne Graham or Jay Feely could probably hold down the spot.

TribLive had this to say about Suisham:
Entering his 11th season in the NFL and sixth with the the Steelers, Suisham has made nine game-winning field goals with the team and has made his past 32 attempts from between 40-49 yards since 2012 - the longest active streak in the league. He had made 87.9 percent of his kicks with the Steelers, the best rate in franchise history.

That will be hard to replace. And seeing that we had to settle for a lot of FGs, that means trouble.

The first significant injury of the season. Not good news. Begin the parade of kickers into camp...

I couldn't disagree more. Losing Suisham is a huge loss for our team. I haven't seen him miss "a lot of easy ones" in a really long time, if ever.

Missing Suisham will hurt. He doesn't have a huge leg. 50 was his max that you could even get.
But, guy was money and accurate. He has won us a hell of lot more games than cost us.
That's all you can ask out of your kicker.
Do you go veteran or do you try a rookie?

Dumbarse kickers... Did anyone tell suisham it was preseason? And an extra preseason game at that. It's not like he was trying to make the team fighting for a spot. Just run down to Catholic and get one of the girls soccer players

Screw it now they go for two and on fourth down inside the 30, Ben wants 30 pts per game and he will get it the old fashion way no kicker. Should clear two roster spots since they won't need specialists cut Warren and Wing too. Ben will pooch kick on punts.
