Yeah this is a bummer, I was looking forward to seeing what he could do this year. I think he has the right makeup to succeed, injuries notwithstanding.

I hope he heals up quick and correct and it doesn't effect his mental make up.

Yeah as soon as they signed Boykin and mentioned his injury I figured as much.

At this point guys who are drafted in either Round 1 or Round 2 by Pittsburgh are gonna start getting nervous for their health in that Rookie season.

There may be some truth to that. Listening to Dave Todd (The guy who said it was more serious than anyone thought before they signed Boykin) he was talking about the Steelers not being happy with the way he played his injury out. Said that he may have had it prior to mini-camps and didn't tell the team (tried to hide it).

I certainly don't want to see anyone hurt but this probably is not a great loss. Expecting a rookie to come in and be a good CB is pretty unlikely. Boykin will be as good or better for this season than the rookie. Meanwhile, Golson can heal and learn, and be better mentally to take a shot at starting next year.

I agree, it's disappointing but probably a little wishful thinking to believe he'd have made a big impact this year. Get the surgery and redshirt him if thats whats needed for him to completely heal up.

trouble is we aren't using the same old defense totally and they are all learning the cover 2 together. it's got to be a set back. rookies have played well in other places, just not in the pittsburgh 3-4 under dl for the most part. a change in the defense is new to most of them and could/should be learned together. big difference than prior years.

I said this the other day, and I kept wondering when he did it, that is injured the shoulder. After reading earlier today, he did it in the spring practice, and didn't tell anyone? I find it hard to believe the team had no clue he was seriously injured? My guess is they were hoping it would heal, it why not fix it in the spring, and see action by mid season if possible? Shoulder injuries can take many months to heal, so I'm not sure why he/they waited to fix it? I am definitely glad they got their man in the trade though. When Philly was shopping him the Steelers apparently tried to work out a trade pre draft for him, and I'm not sure why it never went through? Giving up a 5th rounder for him was a gift, especially if he returns to his 2013 form!

Sounding more and more like the only field he will be seeing PT on will be the Madden version. Unfortunate but hopefully he gets healthy and really studies the defense and is ready to go next year, if he truly is out all season.

You know I really like it here because for the most part you don't have to deal with these posters in comment sections.

I was going to say the same thing. Really looks like a fire plug type of guy at 5'8"!

    • Ah, another one of those people who change numbers to make their own little reality correct.

    • Yup, paying a guy a compliment for being looking well built for being considered too short by most people is creating an alternate reality. Maybe you need to take a step back from the keyboard.

I MEAN SERIOUSLY 5'8" OR 5'9" IS creating an alternate reality?

I saw something on the Steelers app today that makes me think he's out for the season. This is lame BUT one ray of sunshine is the fact that when I was watching the NFL Network coverage of camp they were talking about how good Grant is looking and maybe he will get out there and show us what HE can do sooner rather than later.

One team that is jumping for joy is the Ravens. They jumped ahead of the Steelers to get Maxx Williams and now our 2nd rounder is hurt. Right now, I would prefer Maxx Williams and Boykin instead of Boykin and an injured Golson. I hope that changes once Golson starts playing. On the bright side, I'll just keep telling myself that we have two 2nd round picks next year. BTW, TTF nice job with the web site. Looks very good.

Meh, haven't heard "glowing" reports about Williams and I'm not sure he would have fit into what the Steelers would have him do his rookie year (not much) I really like the potential of James so there's that.

It's not Maxx Willams and Brandon Boykin or Senquez Golson. Due to the trade that would have been necessary to secure Williams, it would be closer to Maxx Williams and Brandon Boykin minus Jesse James and next year's 4th or 5th round pick or Senquez Golson plus we get to keep Jesse James and all of next year's picks. And even that's not realistic, because if Golson hadn't been injured, we never would have traded for Boykin. And I don't like lumping those two trades together anyway, because I like the Boykin trade, regardless of Golson or Maxx Williams.

The only fair comparison is Maxx Williams or Senquez Golson and Jesse James. And I think it's a no-brainer, even with Golson hurt.

After Mendenhall broke his shoulder running into Ray Lewis he became a lot more tentative so I get the fear that Golson could likewise become cautious but uh does anyone know if it was an impact that hurt him? Did he just fall awkwardly?

I'm sure Thomas and the team knows at this point what caused it, but they aren't telling. From several reports he kind of hid it from the team and they were not happy when they learned how severe it was.

Thanks for the info. If he can hide a serious injury he must be tough. Hopefully his small frame holds up.

Golson is injured and he hasn't even played a game yet, there has to be some concern if he can hold to the rigors of a 16 game season with his small frame.

Depends entirely on the cause of the injury, how it became serious, etc. etc. Guys can get injured doing anything.

    For example: http://talksport.com/magazine/top-t...e-andy-carroll-rio-ferdinand-and-dave-beasant

The best one being a back strain putting a guy out for months from reaching for his TV remote.

Different sport, not contact, I know, I know... the point is, it's a big stretch to go from one injury to labelling him fragile. Not saying he is or isn't, but rather give him some time.

You're suggesting that despite never once being significantly injured in his high school and college career - I don't think he's missed a single game, ever - that he's fragile because he got hurt in some kind of non-contact drill?
