Here's a couple defensive line articles to start your Sunday morning.

McCullers sounds very motivated. I'm looking forward to seeing him in the rotation more this year.

“Dan is coming along because he lost weight, which allows him to practice hard,” said McLendon.

"We're learning like a whole different scheme," said second-year defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt. "We'll still control our gap and we still want our linebackers free to be able to make plays, but the defensive line is being taught to play that 3-technique and be dominant."

"It's hybrids," said Heyward. "That's what I love about Coach Butts; he's open to anything."

While watching Tuitt's games at ND, he was much more effective at 2 and 3 tech than on the outside. If you can use him more in even fronts, he will be disruptive.

I like the fact that big Dan is motivated he has a serious push. I also agree on Tuitt . So far my surprise of camp is dare I say it is Cam Thomas . Reports are he has been playing solid , he looked like a guy who shouldn't be in the NFL most of the time last year. Maybe he is similar to Tuitt and playing the right tech actually helps him ?

I thought I read he was with the third team. Maybe that is motivation. 2million is a lot to lose if he gets cut.

Yep playing a lot of 2nd. and 3rd. Team , but has been doing well in drills and in the live work according to reports . If he intends to play like he did last year he will be working at Walmart very soon. His tape last year was horrid if cut he is out of the NFL , I think he can sense that.

I am so excited to see more 1 gapping and cover 2 on the back end. I was one of the more vocal critics of LeBeau last season, and I am going to stand by my opinion that his approach had been outdated for the past few years, and he didn't do enough to adapt. I love and greatly respect what he did for us in years past, but IMO it was very over for him here. Time to be aggressive and let the young horses run.

I read somewhere it said their motto on defense is to seek and destroy, Spence said the LBs want to inflict pain sounds good to me.

Is it just me or does it sound like Tuitt is not taking to this new style too well? Tuitt was a perfect fit for our D and was coming on strong towards end of last year. I guess he will be fine, just needs to make a slight adjustment.

Huh? I think Tuitt is one of the main reasons for making the change. He's too versatile to limit him from penetrating. They want to turn him loose more.

Big Mac is a Tomlin favorite now! I've been reading those reports of him using his hands and technique more! Look out if he gets a taste of planting ball carriers!

Big Dan, has always been a project from day 1,
if the coaches can get him motivated to play at
a high level each and every week and with his immense
physical tools we may have our own Ngata.

I agree. Tuitt is a solid 2 gapper, but he's an even better 1 gap penetrator.

I don't know, "One gap penetrator" sounds pretty vanilla to me.

Jeremy Fowler, ESPN Senior NFL Writer

Dan McCullers, Cam Thomas and Stephon Tuitt are among the defensive linemen who got good push up front during Sunday's practice. McCullers has big-time potential if he can show consistency and the ability to get to the quarterback. It's obvious he can move a pile. After reserve center Reese Dismukes won a one-on-one drill over McCullers and the two slapped each other after the play, McCullers moved Dismukes with ease in the rematch, prompting defensive line coach John Mitchell to tell him if it takes a slap on the head to motivate McCullers, the team will keep doing it. ...

The offense went 4-of-7 in red-zone passing drill, with cornerAntwon Blake giving up two touchdowns. New corner Brandon Boykin was involved in two snaps on that drill. Linebacker Sean Spence has shown improved coverage skills. He's knocked down a few passes in camp, including one in this drill. ...

Fourth-round rookie corner Doran Grant has shown flashes, which eases the loss of Golson. His instincts are good. He broke off a sideline route to sniff out an over-the-middle play that would have put him in a position for a big hit (hitting wasn't encouraged in this particular drill). He perfectly timed a lob corner breakup fromLandry Jones in red-zone drill. ...

Cortez Allen had his second interception of camp off an errant pass from Jones, who negated three straight good days with a rocky one Sunday. Allen was floating in the zone when Jones threw it right to him. ...

I'll say this again: Don't be surprised if slot receiver Eli Rogersmakes the team. He has Mike Tomlin's attention. He's the only true slot receiver on the 90-man roster (even Markus Wheaton, the favorite there, had to learn the position and started as an outside guy).

I'm pretty sure Cortez has more than 2 interceptions this camp. Unless he's only talking about a specific drill, like the at goal line.

I love the idea that Eli Rogers, an undrafted rookie, is more of a slot receiver than Markus Wheaton, a 3rd year guy, because Wheaton will have to transition from the outside, like that's some huge disadvantage.

...I think playing in the league for 2 years more than makes up for that. By Fowler's logic, I would be a better nose tackle than Cam Heyward, because Cam would have to make all those pesky adjustments coming over from DE, whereas I'd be a blank canvas.

Depending on the gap, it may not be vanilla. So to speak.

I never thought I would come to this message board and get turned on but you guys... didn't succeed here! Mildly aroused...doesn't describe it either. Now, if this was on the Playboy forum I might have had a different reaction but just when I'm getting into this I remember the composition of this board (no offense, I'm sure all you guys are fine looking gentlemen).
