While I'm not at camp I'm reading alot of camp reports and thought I'd post "my" thoughts on some of these reports.

1- Timmons- Last year he was our Buck. When Shazier went out he was replaced by both Williams & Spence. One a Buck & one a Mack. Timmons being position flexible switched positions depending on which LB he was next to. This year in he's back at Buck full time. On backers-on-backers he dominated Bell but on coverage skills against Bell he failed 6 straight times. This leads me to think Timmons days as a Mack is over. He'll be a Great Buck for a few years.

2- Zumwalt: He's in danger in not only failing the 53 but maybe even the PS

3- Back-up QB is gaining more concern. Can anybody step up. Boyd is playing better than expected but can't seem to consistently get the snap under center. He fixes that Landry may be in serious trouble.

4- Ross S. He's flashing some skills. He may have to defeat Josh Harris for a roster spot. I doubt we can sign him to a PS spot. Some-one will most likely sign him.

5- OLB will have some tough cuts. HoJo? Chickillo? Moats will have a solid year. Dupree won't beat him out this year. So much depth may mean this will be Deebo's last year.

6- Ben has already been seen with Ice on his knee before 11 on 11's. He's 33 and his contract runs out after the 2019 season. That season he'll be 37 and a HUGE cap saving if he isn't on the roster. We got three years to win some superbowls and find his replacement.

7-WR Eli is a nice surprise. He'll probably wont get a roster spot unless he dominates on ST and beats out Dri. DHB still can't catch...please someone step up on ST!!! Goodwin is athletic and I'm hoping he shows up on ST. Brown-Wheaton-Bryant!!!! who will be # 4? 5?

OL- seems Hubbard isn't laying down, BJ making a case, OT is a concern. Beachum/Gilbert solid but after that? AV is still so raw, adams is........adams,

Can't wait for preseason to get here....

Not so sure why the hate from some writers on DHB. Maybe because they look at him as a 1st. rounder? Not so sure ? The stats report from Steelers Depot was he caught 6 of 9 and had 2 TD'S and was credited with 1 drop . Is he a silky smoothe WR with great hands ? No he is not , but if he can play at or near those stats above there is nothing wrong with that IMO .

I do think we will carry 6 WR'S on the 53 man roster .

    Good stuff, @cajunyankee@cajunyankee.

It seems like there's always an OLB underdog that flashes, who turns into a fan favorite, but fizzles out and ends up on someone else's practice squad. Chickillo is intriguing, though. We'll see how he looks throughout preseason.

The center exchanges were a problem the other day, but it's hard to be concerned about it. I do think Landry is still the guy, though.

Everybody is hating on Landry Jones (what else is new, lol), but apparently Tomlin liked what he saw when he got some work with the first team offense:

    In today's PPG
    • Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was a limited participant in practice, which opened the door for Landry Jones to work with the first-team offense for an extended period in practice.

“I thought he had a good day today,” Tomlin said. “I thought he did some nice things with the extra snaps we gave him. That’s all you’re looking for. When you take the time to give a guy an extra snap or two, you like to see him take advantage of it with execution and I thought he did.”

i read finney was out. he got sick from the heat and did very little today. demeskuse sp? was at center with the bad snaps. like 6 of them or more. hubbard was also playing some center and guard with the 3rd unit and guard with the 2nd.

foster was getting beat pretty steadily. AV and van dyke were looking pretty good. palmer was beaten off the snap a couple of times but recovered to hold his ground.

moats was looking good and so was chick for the most part. they were even using chick on both sides. cam looked good too. ross S. was looking quite good i heard. especially catching out of the backfield. showed some wiggle too.

I like what I'm hearing about Chickillo - after initially not liking the pick, I'm rooting for the guy now.

    Early days yet, though.

Interesting to see how Jones was playing with the first team. I wonder if a bit of success does good for his confidence, and we start to see more of what the coaches saw in him.

To be fair, Bell is one of the very best in the game at shaking linebackers, and that specific drill favors RBs the way backs on backers favors LBs. So I wouldn't read into that. I agree Timmons will remain buck though, now that he's the slowest, least athletic of our starting ILBs. ;) And he's gotten pretty good at taking on blocks.

    Yeah! :dancing:

You're right, seems like every year there's a new fan favorite OLB who gets traded or doesn't last long.

I read two reports that said Landry looked his best Ever Friday nite. I really lime the guy, and he was good in College. I'm pulling for the guy as Ben's future replacement but he really has to " just do it!! ". CB Webb seems to be holding off his challengers.
