It's not really a fair matchup, but great effort by Bryant today in practice. Can't wait to see him this year.

Is that Blake holding the crap out of him? LOL. That was a great catch though but let's tighten up on that coverage! Do only Steelers fans find something to complain about when things go good? Or is it just me? Actually, don't answer that! LOL!

I read in the Post Gazette he put on 20 pounds of muscle in the offseason, he's going to tear it up this season. Why couldn't Jarvis Jones do the same and be a beast in the weight room like that?

I was flipping through radio stations and caught an AM sports show out of Minneapolis the other day and they were discussing some comments that Zimmer had made. It was about trying to teach corners to play press coverage under the new CBA. Because of the rules on contact and the limited number of practices you can have with pads he felt there was no good way for any CB/DB to get solid practices in and hone their craft. I have to say i never considered it until now but yeah how can you ever evaluate what your secondary can really do since they are trying to limit player injuries, have emphasis on player safety and yet still work on the techniques need to succeed. This video shows that you can have some physicality but it also must be tempered so that your offensive players don't get injured. Blake should have some good tape to look at though to see where he can improve.

are you sure that Jones hasn't? I don't have pictures from last year to go by but some of the pictures and videos that steelers.com has been putting up make it look at least to me that Jones has increased in size. Again I haven't compared the two but Jones looked good.

If they weren't wearing numbers I'd swear that would be Brown making that catch.

    Because Jarvis wasn't a 6'4", 200 lb wide receiver, he was a 6'2" 245 lbs linebacker.

Say, why didn't James Harrison pack on 20 pounds of muscle this offseason?? He should work out some!

Once again 2 different body types and Jarvis has to watch how he handles his upper body with his back. That's the big reason I was down on the pick because he's likely never going to have the good "bend" everyone taalks about coming off the edge.

I like how he waits till the last second to put his hands up as to not give it away. Can't wait to see him play! This has been a LONG offseason.

Also, with Jones stenosis, I remember that playing into effect on how much muscle he can pack on IIRC. Not to mention he is still recovering from a wrist injury.

But yes, he looks good anyway.

Cannot wait to see how Bryant progresses in year 2. I'm still holding off on the notion that Pittsburgh will score 30 points a game until I see it because it's never happened before. But you have to like the potential of the receiving corps. If you focus on AB, Bryant, and Bell in the backfield....you still have Wheaton, Miller, James, and Coates to deal with (whoever is on the field at that time). Cannot wait to see it.

They averaged 27 or 28 down the stretch last year, they should only be better this year, think its very doable. I think Coates will pan out the same way Bryant seems to be, giving us one of the best if not best trio of receivers in the league.

As long as the defense comes together, we should be a tough team to handle.

I'm not saying it can't happen or that it won't happen by any means. I just think with Bell's suspension and Pittsburgh's notorious slow starts these past few years, it is possible our offense isn't as sharp as it could be (and hopefully will be) for the first few games. I'm tempering my expectations for the offense for the first 4 weeks. By the time the San Diego game hits though, we should be off and running.

Yes stopping the big runs will be a huge key . I will also add getting off the field on 3rd. downs especially those 3rd. and forever types we allow to be converted to much.

A UT fan at work told me he was jealous we had Coates. He's also a cowgirls fan but as a UT fan he has got to watch Coates quite a bit and said he thought he was awesome. The pro level is a whole different ball game though and so we will see how his game translates. He's actually one I am looking forward to since so many people around here have told me they think he's really good.

Same here, Mac. I'm not saying Coates won't be good, but I'd eat my hat if he's as successful as Bryant. My favorite hat.

So what, Jones didn't get any bigger and stronger his first two seasons he doesn't have to gain 20 pounds of muscle but he could've bulked up some is my point.

Let's get things straight. You're acting like he's failed twice already. You saw him as a rookie, then in his second year. You say he didn't get any bigger or stronger. Considering the shape he was in as a rookie (pretty poor for what we expect from our linebackers), we didn't want him getting bigger. He needed to shed fat and replace it with muscle. He did need to get stronger, but for his frame, he was already the right size. He wasn't lanky like Bryant.

Then he came back in year two and played better. It's hard to say if he got stronger since he only really played like 3 games over the course of the season. But by most accounts he played better.

This year is his second chance. And you haven't seen him in action yet, so I don't think it's fair to judge him yet. But what we do know for sure is that he was told to work out like crazy and get stronger, and he spent a big chunk of his offseason with James Harrison and the other linebackers, working out with them. I'd say he got the message and did his best. We'll see if his body is good enough over the course of this year.

My point was Martavis:Jarvis gaining size and muscle is a ridiculous comparison. And it is. You might as well say he should be able to put on 20 lbs. of muscle because that's what you did between 8th and 10th grade.
