how many years do you figure we will have heath?

the guy has been one heck of a player for us without a lot of fanfare for a lot of years. just quietly goes about his business, but man we will sure notice when he's gone. how much longer do you think he will play? I know we have brought in a few guys to compliment him but if I were a betting man, I'd say we go after a high draft pick to replace him at some point when the time comes.

Going to observe his upcoming season, the Offense is only going to get faster. I will need to see his performance ref. physical ability before going out too far on the limb.

yes i agree he is aging but none of these new guys we have brought through this system can hold a candle to what he does for this team. if thats the case, how bad can he be slipping?

what is a better question is who is evaluating these guys coming in at this position? blanchflower is nowhere near heaths level. spaeth is nowhere near heaths level but still has some worth, but he's old and injury prone. james is not near heaths level as a blocker or receiver. clear is yet to be seen but i don't think as of now he's close to what heath was coming in. egnew, i think could be close receiver wise, but we will have to see as a blocker. i'm not too sure we shouldn't have kept palmer around another couple of years. he did get better as he went but not near heaths level even as heath has aged. it's a shame the kid from south carolina was such a turd, he had some upside. lets not forget johnson was looking better but couldn't stay healthy.

i hope we keep at least two on the PS and i am pulling more for egnew this year than the others because i think he has some worth as a receiver over the others, but the blocking will have to surface for him. i just don't see how we can let heath walk yet.

 

Mac, That's why I said 3 tops cause we have no developing replacement at the position. If there was a proven replacement then it would be 2 and none more. In 2 years, if Miller is healthy he will still be better than anything that we have coming in at the moment. He may not be the best choice at that time but he will still be a confident reliable option for Ben, therefore a 3rd season will probably be the best choice at that point.

I'll say 2 more years. I think Jesse James will end up being the real deal and will take the torch from Heath as Pittsburgh's new TE1. I can't wait to see what they can do this year together though. I can see James catching 6 TDs in the redzone this year, with all of the attention put on AB, Bell, Bryant, and Heath. This offense will be fun to watch.

 

yea 86 i don't think our replacement for heath is here yet and we may pull that trigger next year or the year after in round 1 or 2, i believe.

i do agree with jeh that heaths last year wasn't up to his normal standards but we used him alot more for the run game and it helped. with bryant not a rookie and as this wr group gets it's act more together, heath will make a comeback as a great mismatch for us in the offense. he could become the forgotten man for defenses to cover, but ben won't forget him.

as far as j.james being the heir apparent, he will have to show alot more blocking prowess. clear, now may have a leg up in that regard. it should be a fun preseason with all these guys, but in the end i think heath will continue to shine.

 

With the way the game is changing we may never get Heath replaced . Not to many Teams on the College level even value a all around TE .Not to many get to block and catch passes only 1 or 2 of those guys coming out a year .So if we want one IMO we will have to spend big.

Not to sure how much more Ben has got left,,, going to have to spend big there soon unless we get lucky in the next few drafts.

To answer the question though at least 2 we probably need 4 from him or change the scheme . Is why I say it is wise to keep pushing the multiple WR sets more and more . We seem to be able to get good ones left and right .

CB and TE this Team not doing so well in finding so far I hope this draft changed that in both areas .

when you handle the ball alot in the nfl it's bound to happen from time to time. i don't think it's something that is a big concern with heath. they all have their moments. all turnovers stink and seem to come at inopportune times. i'm not going to hold them against heath for all the good that he does, but yea the last couple of years they have happened.

 

I'm just not one to shoot from the hip and say how many years a player has in them. As mentioned, after the injury Heath's performance and speed IMO looks somewhat unorthodox. Some say he's getting older, well that's true another birthday in oct. though @ 33 i don't blend that as a factor. It's Heath Miller everyone including myself loves him and wants him around forever, can he continue bringing it to the table if so how long, that's yet to be determined.

Heath had 1 fumble in 2013 and 1 fumble in 2014, he's had 7 fumbles in 10 years and you talk like he has been a compulsive fumbler, he had 66 receptions last year and you want to highlight the 1 fumble he had, if anything he has been a solid blocker and receiver ever since he has been here and there is no questioning his character and dedication to the game, here is his career stats, you cant argue with the over 6000 yards in receptions or his 43 TDs since he became a starter, and his durability is noted in his mostly 16 game seasons, he has plenty of gas in his tank based on his last years performance of being a solid TE for this team....And Heaths 10 year stats are better than Todd Heaps 12 year stats........
