Steelers.com will be doing a modern day all time team over the next few weeks so I figured why not start a thread about it since there is NOTHING else going on. So who ya got on yours. I will do mine when I get home to my computer.

I'm having a hard time with OLB and Oline. I keep going back and forth is what they did with the team or overall. Like do you go with Greene who was great for a short period of time or Donger who yes benifited from a always having someone dominant on the other side is the franchise sack leader. There is also Woodley and Woodley who have rings and when it comes to the Steelers isn't that all that matters. Then there is the other side the impossible other side. To me it is Harrison 2 rings and every accomplishment to go with it. In fact I have Harrison as our 3rd and maybe even 2nd best lber ever but there is Porter and the baddest man alive Lloyd.

I know the old timers are going to jump all over me for saying Harrison could be the second best Lber we have had but its true. Compare his total stats to every other OLB in the league at his time. While other OLBs could keep up sack wise when it came to tackles you couldn't touch him. While others were in the 60s for combined tackles he was in the 70s for solo and 100s combined. He was an absolute unstoppable force of nature for the Steelers.

I saw this today and got to thinking about it. It shouldn't be nearly as hard to put this team together as it would an all time team. Just because of the temptation to fill it with 70's players. Obviously, Ben, Bettis, Fanneca, Dirt, Hines, AB, Heath, Thigpen, Woodson, Ike, Porter, Harrison, Troy, and Snack are gonna be there. But can you just put your favorite linebackers or do they have to be their "actual" position. Because wouldn't that keep maybe like Lloyd, Porter, Woodley, Greene, or Timmons from not being able to be on it together if they play from the same spot?

Yeah I think that will be harder as well. I would like to put Greene on there but he wasn't here very long. He was still a sack machine though and has been really close to the HOF in voting. That's pretty good credentials. I'm with on O line troubles too. I think the offense will be overall much easier though. I suppose Bell can be there too though right? Since there can be 26 and not just 22?

Aaron Smith is a lock thats for sure I don't like any of the DL during Cowher's early years really stood out, Steed, Harrison, Buckner so it really comes down to Kimo vs Da Beard for DLine to me. Can we assume Gary Anderson is going to be the lock for kicker?

I'm kinda leaning towards Reed. He won us a lot of games on those super bowl runs.

Not sure Anderson was solid for ten years and just about automatic inside of 30 but the Vikings can speak to his failures better than we can lol. I can't wait to read the discussions on Llyod vs Gildon vs Porter vs Harrison because that is just too many solid guys at one position, although I'm leaning Llyod

I was gonna go with Anderson. However, Reed did have to kick in Heinz which is notoriously difficult and even has the team record for the longest one made there. Seems like another kicker set the stadium record a few years ago didn't he?

My pick for running back tomorrow will be The Bus, would have liked Fast Willie to share but only 1 pick.

I would put Bell over Willie. I just think he's gonna really kill it for a good while and Willie just didn't have the build to last as long as Bell could.

I started thinking about this today. If we are gonna make this modern era team and we are putting players on it who is gonna be the coach??? I figure this is gonna trigger a HUGE debate around here. I'm already settled on the fact that I'm picking Cowher. I think him with us being able to choose from his best and Tomlin's best with Ben and Bell would just be unstoppable. I think I'd have to say Cowher is gonna coach my best of the modern era team. Let's also go a little farther and name our coordinators as well. I'm taking Haley and Dick.

My reason for not listing Bell is because i knew people like you were going to do so.:lolol:. Seriously my selections will be players that have paid their dues with much sweat and tears. Bell's good, just don't have enough mileage for me and didn't like how he came out the gate mixing it up with the law and missing his first 4 games. Stats are cool but i don't over look character in a player that being said, i forgave him for his actions.
