While coming home from work yesterday I was listening to talk radio and they were discussing the best QB's under pressure and I immediately said to myself Big Ben without a doubt. I remember all the complaints that he holds onto the ball too long sometimes but the results usually are rewarding rather than disastrous.

Thanks for posting that, 86. It's nice to see. It would have come in handy in a couple conversations during the first half of last season.

    I'll start the controversy.

Part of being a good QB under pressure is the ability to read the hot read and check down. For years we have discussed the fact that Ben was lousy at this. Yes, we all remember the scrambleing and big plays he makes. What we don't count is the number of times he rolls in a ball and gets sacked for a loss when the short pass was open. We all groaned about this.

With that said Ben was much better last year and that is where these statistics are from. If the title was best QB under pressure in 2014, ok, I'm with you. Beyond that, let's not get carried away.

He's got a point...How many times in the GB Superbowl was Heath wide open? (Let's not even count all the other games) Hell, he was open on the incomplete he forced to Wallace to kill the last drive!

Love the guy, but he has not been good in those areas prior to last year.

I agree that in the past Ben has got very 'stuck' on certain options mid-play, and forced things, rather than taking less risky/shorter plays.

The difference last year was Bell's timing. For some years Ben has been missing the RB in the flat as a check-down, but not so much now.

If we're talking all-time best QB under pressure, I think Ben's certainly in the running, but would face stiffer competition than the current QBs in the NFL.

Well, what are the facts exactly?

I think, aside from some personal opinions about Ben, there are going to be differing viewpoints due to how one defines what makes a QB good under pressure.

Moving before 2014, lets not get carried away by the number of times Ben hurt them by not checking down, lets also keep in mind he didn't always have Bell. I love Heath but hes no Bell with YAC.

No attitude. I love having Ben here. And I did acknowledge he got better last year. Actually he got better after BA left. But over the years, that was the one area he had room to improve and it appears he has. Not meant to be a knock. I'm just not ignoring the past. At a slow time of the year, I was just trying to kick a floundering post in the butt to get something going.

One of the facts should include how many times Ben has completed passes while at least one defender is draped all over him. When the play breaks down there is no other QB in the league that I want in that back field cause I know that something positive can still happen. All the other QB's in the league other than possibly Aaron Rogers aren't even worth mentioning.

Brady would be in the ICU and Peyton would be out 6-8 weeks. :dizzy::cray:

The refs would kick the entire defense out of the game, and award the win to them by default.

Just based on the name of the thread I'd say: "Big Ben. Next question."

There's no denying that Ben is among the best in the league when faced with pressure. But him being faced with pressure is a different scenario than him holding the ball too long and then having to deal with a broken play and rushing defenders.

Ben has gotten much better with dumping the ball off. Bell has helped tremendously with this and I think Haley has too. A lot of these are designed plays though. Where Ben still hurts us is when he looks off an open guy hoping for a bigger play. He still does this too often. Hopefully he realizes it and adjusts his play accordingly, because those plays really hurt us.
