DeAngelo Williams, now with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is still upset that the Patriots take Laurence Maroney over him in the 2006 NFL Draft. So much so that he wants to use it as motivation to help the Steelers beat the defending champs in Week 1 of the upcoming season.

Maroney was taken 21st overall by New England, and Williams was taken 27th by the Panthers.

At this point in his career and with his role as defined as Blount's was last year if Williams needs this type of thing to motivate him more than say making a huge contribution in the four games Bell is out and showcasing that he still has value should the Steelers choose to go another direction after this coming season, well then I say what ever gets you up for the game. If I was a member of the team I'd need nothing more than to know its against the Pats and I was going to buckle up the chin strap and make some guys blow snot bubbles.

A 9 year grudge over a draft position? Really DeAngelo?

I'm of the mindset that if you are this concerned about this gripe then you will more than likely make mistakes which will result in hurting the team rather than performing well and helping them. Let it go.

Williams probably isn't losing sleep over it but it's Twitter so maybe he's just ruffling feathers.

For that matter, it's not like we had any great RB strength on the roster at the time of the draft. He could have easily been drafted by us and won a SB ring..... but that's water under the bridge. We took Holmes and may have never won that game against Arizona without him.

Actually, Willie Parker had just exploded, and he went on to have great seasons in 2006 and 2007. I would have been pissed if we'd taken any RB over Holmes or Nick Mangold.

I wanted Mangold that draft too, Snack.
