The beautiful thing about rookie camp is that Tajh Boyd is making the throws, and if he looks good, then he will have an opportunity to become the steelers QB of the immediate future.

I hope he shines in rookie camp, has a great training camp and pre season, and beats Ben out for the #1 job. And brings us 7 more super bowls in his career.

    I`m cautiously optimistic....

Past drafts have shown me that college ball, and NFL level play, can be two different things...

Looks like we did good... we will see...:herewego::herewego!:

I'm really looking forward to seeing how these kids develop. Holliman already has an interception. I think Boyd was throwing, but it still counts. I kid, I kid.

I watched a lot of Auburn games, and Coates definitely stood out...even with Marshall throwing the not-so-prettiest passes his way. I don't see him contributing too much his first season as basically the 6th option behind the 3 WR's, Miller, and Bell. Hopefully he's better in year two when he replaces Wheaton after he signs with the Cardinals. :roflmao:

I was checking the Trib and PG for articles about the minicamp and was pleasantly surprised to see Tomlin getting in there and teaching. I am not saying he hasn't done it before just it is my impression that he was very hands off in terms of the defense but when they said he was going to be working closely with Butler I think it means he will be more hands on. Seems like a positive to me.

Not to throw the bat signal up or anything but isn't Boyd supposed to be able to tuck in your back pocket from 70 yards?:hmmm:

Agree. I think Tomlin seemed to be too hands off when DL was the DC. "Because he's Dick LeBeau."

He's the head coach. He sure as heck better be involved with the D, the O, ST and any other letters that fit. That's his job.

I've heard a lot of people here complain that Tomlin is nothing more than a cheerleader on the sidelines on game day. So just when it appears the guy is getting in there and getting his hands dirty now he needs to butt out and let the coaches coach?

That's not what thorn said. He said he had always had the impression that Tomlin was hands off.

Unless you're within the Steelers organisation, we have no idea how hands on or off he is. Or, indeed, whether hands on or hands off is better.

Slightly off-point, but whenever there's a discussion about HCs 'teaching' I think of a game under Cowher, where Randle-El (think he was a rookie) tried to field a punt, went for the catch badly, fumbled and recovered. When he got to the sideline, Cowher jumped in and started to show him how to catch a ball properly. So my first thought was: "that's great, coach is addressing a problem straight away." Then I thought: "hang on, why didn't he tell him this before?? And is mid-game the best time to teach technique??? Isn't there someone else who should be doing this????"

Like Glenn says, damned if you do, damned if you don't, I guess.

No offense to anyone, but to me, that "because he's Dick LeBeau" narrative is complete malarkey. As a new DC, I imagine Butler will get more of Tomlin's time.

Coaching is a non stop endeavor, I'm sure Cowher, as well as postion coaches had showed Randel many times the proper technique to catch a punt but you keep repeating it and drilling it into their head over and over. Obviously Randel needed to hear it again.

Most coaching is done during the week, Tomlin is heavily involved in all phases of the game, as are all coaches. He probably gave a little more leeway to DL but to think he had no input is, well, to echo the sentiments of what a very wise man once said, malarkey.

So if you have been waiting years for a certain job, then you get it. It woudnt bother you that guy that hasnt done it since he has been here, all of a sudden wants to "Lend you a hand" or tell u how to do it, c-mon really, If tomlin wasnt happy/ confident with Butlers abilities he should have not hired him

Are you joking? I'm not even going to debate you, cause no matter what I say Tomlin is wrong in your eyes.

Next time reread your post before you hit submit!
