I was reading after the draft on another site they had him listed as a OLB, Joey Porter said you can never have enough pass rushers on the team. Porter also said he expects Harrison to play 25 snaps a game, Chickillo is most likely headed to the practice squad.

I think this is one pick I didn't really like. The pick could have been used elsewhere ... unless they have some hybrid sub-package role in mind for him?

So this is funny, I watched the 2 Chickillo tapes on draftbreakdown.com, and afterward my reaction was "jack of all trades, master of none," Then I looked at his draft profile on NFL.com and it said:

"He doesn't have a position as far as I can tell. I don't think he projects inside or outside. He's just caught between positions and there isn't anything that he does really well." -- NFC director of scouting"

In the games that I just watched, Miami lined him up literally everywhere on their 4 man front - both edges, 3 tech, 1 tech. Everywhere that he lined up, he did a nice job engaging the blocker low and holding position, rarely getting moved if not double-teamed. However, he didn't make many plays either. He does draw a few double teams, but not as many as you'd want to see in an NFL 5 tech. He also shows a nice first step when rushing the passer, but each subsequent step is slower and allows the blocker to react. He had some decent pressures after engaging inside blockers from the 1 and 3 tech positions, so there's potential as an inside rusher in sub packages. He's a guy that you've got to root for because the effort is there right up to the whistle on every snap, and you can tell from watching him on the field that he's probably a practice junky as well. I just don't know where he fits. I can see him being a rotational backup guy who excels on special teams, and can fill in at multiple positions adequately enough to get on the field if he can handle the mental rigors of being a backup at both OLB and DE.

I will say that I like the pick more after watching him. There's something there, I'm just not sure what that something is after watching 2 games. He will be one of the more interesting guys to watch this preseason.

Agree with Da Stellas, this is the one pick I didn't like. Would have liked a OL here.

I don't think he's good enough to outplay the sheer numbers we have at the position. not that I dislike him as a player just a lot of guys probably better suited to our scheme unless we throw something very different on the field.

OK so the OLBs are now Harrison, Jones, Dupree, Moats, Lemon, Chickillo, Green, HoJo, Nix, and Zumwalt. Yeah I'm going to say the Steelers are serious about getting the pass rush back.

Those were my feelings pretty much as well. I'm not sure we couldn't have picked him up as a UDFA...

When " Chickillo " officially makes our roster, and wins over the hearts of Steeler fans..I want to start an official petition to have Anthony's new " Nickname " be...

There will be a lot of competition for those OLB spots on the team that's a good thing, get back to blitzburgh.

I love the Chickillo pick. I think he'll be a solid player for us for a lot of years, kind of like a Chris Hoke career, at minimum. It's not every day that you find a guy with his size with that amount of quickness and short area burst. He isn't going to chase people down across the field Shazier style, but in the 15-yard box around the LOS he could be a good one. One of the highest rated high school recruits entering the NCAA, and bumped around a lot at Miami. Hopefully some positional stability will pay off.

Chickillo and Golson are the two from this draft I'm most excited about.

Harrison is going to be injured this season?
I was wondering where that Crystal ball went.

I just read on steelers depot that Joey porter foresees a 4 person rotating OLB package, along with limiting Harrison's snaps to 25 per game.

One radio station said Chickillo COULD...in time be moved to a Inside LB position...Kinda like a Levon Kirkland type of ILB. Chickillo has the size and speed to do it. But he is not as Big ( Girth )..as Kirkland. But he is a lot faster and more Athletic with the same type of hitting and Intensity skills that Kirkland had. Who knows ?

Camp will be interesting. Hopefully they're letting the guy know what their plan is so he can work towards that... we don't want another David Johnson type ("you'll be a FB, but we won't train you to block").

I'd imagine Jones and Moats start with Harrison and Dupree rotating in. Dupree will start with less snaps, but they should increase as the season rolls on (and he shows improvement) and could even be the starter late in the season depending on how well he does. Lemon, HoJo, Chickillo, Zumwalt, and Nix are all battling it out for the last roster spot and likely 2 PS spots.

Its too early for this, but I'll guess Lemon wins the last spot with HoJo and Chickillo on the PS. Zumwalt and Nix cut.

Zumwalt isn't getting cut, they love him and he can play. Id be surprised it Chickillo even makes it to the PS. Still scratching my head over that pick.

He has good Football skills. Maybe his development has been hindered by moving him around everywhere ? I think this is the last chnce for Jones to step up.Maybe KC trying to balance it out if JJ doesn't pan out by picking a late guy and turning him into a starter down the road .

The linebacker competition is going to be very, very good.

At OLB, they have Harrison, Jones, Moats, and Dupree.
At ILB, they have Timmons, Shazier, Spence, and Williams.

More than likely we will only keep one more, at most 2 more guys. You see statements on here about, "Zumwalt they love and won't get cut" but they like Garvin as well. Garvin, Zumwalt, Lemon, and Chickillo all should have a shot potentially at that last spot. It will be earned in one spot....special teams.

DL I think is pretty set, with our draft pick making the practice squad and otherwise what we have.

We will keep 5 or 6 CBs and 4 safety, with that battle coming down to Golden vs. our new draft pick.

That potentially means 26 guys on D, leaving only 24 spots on offense.

    9 OL
    5 WR's
    4 TE's
    4 RB's
    2 QB's

I guess that would be our 24 for offense. With James or Blanchflower possibly cut for a 10th OL.
