We were rumored to be in the mix for the Rams' pick at #41. Eric Rowe and Jalen Collins both went just after that (42 for Collins, 47 for Rowe). Let's say that we would have needed to trade our 3rd to move up to the Rams' spot at 41. Would you prefer to have come out of day 2 with ONLY Rowe or J. Collins (you're choice), or BOTH Golson and Coates?

Honestly, for me it would be Collins or Rowe. I love Golson, and I think Coates can be solid, but we just have such a glaring need for an outside corner, and those two guys were very solid prospects for the position. Sometimes you just have to take a chance to fill a glaring need. It's a close call, so I'm not ticked off and ranting about it, but I really think we would have been better served coming out of day 2 with one very good player that fills a glaring need rather than 2 good players who don't quite hit the mark from a need perspective (I view Golson as a slot corner, not an outside guy, and we have a top notch slot corner in Gay, and another guy who may best fit as a slot corner in Blake).

Ask this question after they finish. There are still some solid football players left.

    I would have taken Rowe.

I was obviously beating the drum hard for Rowe, so am going to go with that still.

But as Strummer said, lot of draft left, maybe find a gem 4 through 7.

On paper, I like what Dallas got. Jones and Gregory seem better than Bud and Golsen...

I would have been thrilled if we were sitting here today with Dupree and Rowe.

Then we could have targeted a nickel corner like Ifo today in the fourth and the rest of the draft would be gravy.

Understood, but my point was really about comfort headed into day 3. Obviously we won't be able to really rate this draft for 2-3 years.

Disagree strongly about Gregory after hearing that he blew off some team interviews and was late to others - in addition to his positive test for marajuana and weighing in at sub 230 lbs for some workouts. He screams "bust."

Or we could've taken Byron Jones in the 1st. Grabbed Gregory in the 2nd and Coates in 3rd. That sounds great to me.

why is everyone so high on rowe? I have heard a lot of people say he might not even play corner

Don't forget his lack of ability against the run.

Maybe position flexibility? Idk. Really, I think it's his height. People around here are obsessed with guys that are tall (regardless of whether or not they have actual talent). I liked Rowe okay, but I really thought he should've been a safety. His biggest flaw as a corner is getting beat deep... Not good for a defense that gave up a bunch of big plays last season.

We'll see what happens. Philly may indeed use him at safety. Personally, I thought he looked very promising at corner. You have to take into account that he was playing corner for the first time in college after playing safety. You can't expect that he's going to be perfect right after making the switch. I think he really fit the mold of what we look for in an outside corner. It doesn't matter now anyway. Things broke our way in the 4th with Grant. I think he has less upside than Rowe, but I also think he has a higher floor. I think he will start for us pretty soon, maybe even later this season if Cortez doesn't get over whatever it is he needs to get over.

Golson and Coates. There weren't many guys in this entire draft that I would have spent 2nd & 3rd round picks on.

I would have went with Collins, I am not a Rowe fan but would defiantly taken Rowe over Golson too. I love the Coates pick but I would have went Collins and hit up with Lippett or Harper later. JMO not a fan of Golson but will be rooting he pans out.....

I would have looked hard at Heurmann(sp?) or Nelson over Coates.

Yeah I was talking as to the question asked if I would have traded up. I guess I was a little confusing. I would have rather of had to trade up for Collins and add lippett or hardy instead of golson and coates....

I agree with your point on Grant. He doesn't quite have the ceiling the Rowe possibly could (idk what that is for a kid who has only played one year of CB), but I think he will be solid at the very least. I hope Cortez gets his sh!t back together lol but if not Blake and Grant make me feel way better about our situation outside. Golson is gonna be our starting nickel for sure. I'm really excited to see him out there. I feel like we made our secondary wayyyy better in the draft.

I would've liked to have had Collins of course. He kinda reminds me of Ike in a way... But anymore slot corner is a starter in this league and we got the best one in the draft by far. Golson can really play. We have some outside guys in Blake, Allen, and gay then added another in Grant. Golson will be on the field immediately, and I expect that he will make an instant impact in a way that Collins wouldn't have.

as for Coates I strongly disagree. I think he is a perfect fit for what the steelers like to do with their WR's. We look for guys that have pure speed, and he has that. With Wheaton AB and Sanders, we went with the under 6' speedy guys. With Wallace, Bryant, and Coates we went with the super athletic taller guys (6'1" or taller) all of whom can flat out move. He may be raw, but he has the pure athleticism we covet, and size too. Outside of Perriman, Parker, and Devin Smith I think he was the next best fit at the position for us.

Not sure about the Golson pick but I will say Mathieu is coming along in AZ and he is quite short and Golson is the same size as Darrell Green was. Steelers have been shaky with corners historically.

I think it is funny that anyone would dare question the Steelers midround receiver selections after Wallace, Brown, Bryant and Sanders. If there is a position the Steelers draft well it is WR.

Let's make sure we are on the same page I am not against the Coates pick. As a matter of fact if you go back through the draft thread I threw his name out.
Now what I am saying is I would rather have Collins and Lippett/Hardy then Golson and Coates. I hope they prove me wrong but when asked this hypothetical question that is how I feel.
