Coates is a physical specimen who will see a lot of Go routes.

I don't mind drafting a WR here, but I'm not sure I like this one.

He doesnt drop any deep route balls. He makes circus catches also. he is almost six two, fast, etc etc

his only knock was occasionally dropping short route slant passes I believe. He is not limas sweed. sweed couldnt catch a deep ball to save his life.

Im not saying hes an allstar but you never know.

Give this pick a solid "B"

I like the possibilities of he and Wallace complimenting AB/Bell/Heath... Enormous speed and a big blocker. Some are saying Boom or Bust but he has lots of tools to work with and the Steelers seem to know what they are doing with WR positions. For Ben this could be a great pick.

It seems the value was here for WR, so they almost had no choice but to take one.

On one hand, I would have loved to have waited until the 4th or 5th round for a receiver, on the other hand some people are saying Coates would have been a second rounder if he would have come out any other year.

He kind of seems like Mike Wallace light? Well I think this position is all set now.

I want to know what he brings on Special Teams? DHB is the current #4 and is beast on them and does actually contribute on the Offense. I can see Coates as the #5 because there's no way he makes it to the practice squad.

Feeling a bit underwhelmed after the day 2 selections. Hope they bring it and prove me wrong.

Yeah, I hear you. I was pimping Golson hard, and love that we got him... but I was never envisioning him being our 2nd rounder. Coates was a value pick in the 3rd when you look at talent vs. draft position, but sometimes you just have to put need ahead of pure BPA, and we still need to add a corner who is big enough to play outside. Doran Grant was my guy at that spot because he fit the need and was (IMO) close enough to being the BPA.

I really like this pick. Tall and can catch... Seems like a good fit for our missing tall receiver.. Already he is better than Sweed hahaa

You are joking right?????? DHB contributes on offense too???? You do realize he had a total of 3 catches for 33 yards AND 1 fumble lost in all 16 games last year.

DHB is NOT a receiver. He is special teams only. I have buddies that are all raider fans. they swear he drops half his balls in practice. In praaaaaactice.......

Coates is INSTANTLY the #4 and Coates has also been compared to Terrel Owens..... the same T.O. who will eventually make the hall of fame.

Next year Coates could end up the #2 ahead of both wheaton and martavis bryant. He has that much potential

Let me ask a question about the Coates pick. Do you think there's any possibility at all that the Steelers drafted Coates to give AB (and his idiotic agent) just a subtle reminder that the team knows how to develop mid to late round WR talent and that he was once one of those guys. With AB's agent putting the word out that he may be holding out for a new contract I believe that could have gone into the Steelers thinking when they took Coates. I realize that AB has sort of refuted what his agent said but should he decide to get stupid, it will be nice to have Coates in the fold.

No. I dont think the steelers believe they will lose Antonio Brown. So if they arent losing him why draft a replacement? They drafted Coates for depth, going 4 wide, injuries...etc.... the only real receivers the steelers have are A.B. , Martavis Bryant a rook last year, and Marcus Wheaton.

Yea thats a good group but one injury and you got big trouble in little China, cue LeVeon Bell injury and missing first 3 games this year. Steelers are going to have to go to the air BIG TIME against the pats. They need more receivers.

There's also some good Golson highlights starting at about 2:40. I realize Coates comes down with the contested catch but Golson made him earn it. It didn't look like Coates out jumped him or anything like that, he just made a heckuva contested catch. Right after that, Golson just about has a pick six that Coates ends up catching. Golson is obviously a ball hawk and a competitor and I'm excited about seeing what he can do. I think we've got a keeper in Coates too.
