I will be out and about during most of Rounds 4-7, so I won’t be able to watch and celebrate, debate and commiserate with you guys (other than maybe a few minutes here and there when I can sneak a peek on my phone). So, I wanted to put some thoughts out there on rounds 4-7 for discussion. At this juncture, I see 2 guys that I would trade up for in the 4[SUP]th[/SUP] – Doran Grant and TJ Clemmings. Grant is, IMO, the last corner left in this draft with bona-fide outside starter potential as a rookie. Last year I started banging the drum for EJ Gaines in the 3[SUP]rd[/SUP]. He went in the 6[SUP]th[/SUP] and then ended up being a very capable rookie starter for the Rams. I have an equal grade on Grant, and see more similarities then differences. Get him. My alternative is Clemmings. I see legit left tackle physical tools there. Yes, he’s raw, but with good coaching between now and September he should be good enough to be an active roster player as a backup swing tackle. I’m ready to be done with Adams if we can find his replacement, and Clemmings provides long-term starter potential to boot. My 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] guy is Josh Shaw. The tools are there, but there’s a need for some refurbishment. I’m also unsure about whether he’s a CB or S at the NFL level. I wouldn’t trade up for him, but when Grant and Clemmings are gone, he enters the mix as my next need-adjusted BPA.

Also one other note – the way the board is shaping up, there are literally TONS of good quality 3 technique types of DTs available. I had read on this board that KB planned on using more 4-3 looks. I’m not sure how our roster can accommodate a 3 Tech, but the guys that are out there are legit 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] – 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] round talent, there are just so many of them – and a dwindling number of 4-3 teams – that the whole position group has fallen like a rock. We supposedly spent time with Bennett, Jarrett and Wright. If we take one of them, then I think it’s further indication that we will be seeing more 4-3, or at least some 1-gapping in our odd front. There are very few two-gap defenders remaining that fit the height/weight/arm length ideals for a 3-4.

Anyway, here are some guys that I’m thinking about for rounds 4-7

    (4) Doran Grant, CB, OSU (would trade up for)
    (4) TJ Clemmings, T, Pitt (would trade up for)
    _______________________________________________
    (4) Josh Shaw, CB/S, USC
    (4) Charles Gaines, CB, Louisville
    (4) Anthony Harris, FS, Virginia
    (4) Ibraheim Campbell, SS, Northwestern
    (4) any of a number of 3 tech guys if we are going to do more 1-gapping on the D-front
    (4) Jay Ajayi, RB, Boise State

    (5) Adrian Amos, FS, Penn State
    (5) LaDarius Gunter, CB/S, Miami
    (5) Max Garcia, C/G, Florida
    (5) Tyeler Davison, NT, Fresno State
    (5) David Cobb, RB, Minnesota
    (5) Jeremy Langford, RB, Michigan State
    (5) Cody Prewitt, S, Mississippi
    (5) Durrell Eskridge, S, Syracuse
    (5) Jessie James, TE, Penn State
    (5) Blake Bell, TE, Oklahoma
    (5) Mike Davis, RB, South Carolina

    (6-7) David Parry, NT, Stanford
    (6-7) Darryl Roberts, CB, Marshall
    (6-7) Damian Swann, CB, Georgia
    (6-7) Tyler Varga, RB, Yale
I could list plenty more 6-7 rounders, but I’m running out of steam…

Some decent talent left. I think two of our final four picks need to be defensive backs.

    Final day

Ok so with the last day of the draft here I am going to be gone the whole day so I will talk about who I like. I know I am fairly new here but as some of you now as we did the mock draft I am super high on FS Holliman, this kid is a ball hawk and I don't care what round we grab him in but he is the one player I want today. Here is a list by position on who is left that I wouldn't mind seeing us draft:

    CB- Shaw, Ifo, Gaines, Swann
These 4 are great picks some could be and impact player right away(Ifo) and some could be a project(Swann). Shaw had a very good Shrine game.

    TE - James, Koyack, Bell
All big targets, are they better then Blanch....I don't know.

RB - Langford, Cobb, Davis, Payne, Crockett
Langford is a nice fit, but the other 3 would be good as well

    OT - Hickey, Thompson

    OG - Kouandijo, Glowinski
At one point before last years draft when Kou was thinking about coming out he was considered a 1st rounder. Some here opened my eyes on Glow

OLB/DE - Tull, Hodges, Valles, Vaughters, Flowers, Z.Smith, Chickillo, Trail, Reed, Drew
I think there are some FA value here and a guy like Vaughters would be a nice project.

FS - HOLLIMAN, Prewitt, Drummond, Gunter
Holliman.....and thats all I want to say, lmao!!!

    SS- Sample, Geathers
I like both but if Mitchell moves over this is a position we could pas on.

Well there they are I am getting ready to leave the house in a little while and won't be back until tomorrow so have fun all and go Steelers.........

I really think we take Doran Grant. I also like Amos in round 5. Matt Jones in 6.

I thought Matt Jones was already taken at the end of the third. I'll have to go back and check.

Yes, he went to the Redskins in the 3rd.

I would like to see any of these in no particular order and best guess as to round:

CB Steven Nelson Oregon State (4th)
    CB Jacoby Glenn CF (6th)
    CB Charles Gaines Louisville (5th)
    OL Jamil Douglas ASU (4th)
    DT Marcus Hardison ASU (4th)
OLB Kyle Emanuel (6th or 7)
S Anthony Harris (?) Not sure why he is falling
    CB/S Josh Shaw (5th)

Not really looking for a TE or another WR.

If we have to get a RB I would hope for David Cobb or Mike Davis. Both probably only available in the 4th.

Jamil Douglas and Hardison are probably my favorites on who is left. Both from ASU ironically.

    Nelson is gone turtle.

I would also like Cobb in the 5th. Or if Ajayi keeps falling.

Harris is falling because he's 6'1", 183. That's thin for a basketball player, never mind an NFL player. Still, the talent on tape is undeniable, and despite his slight frame he is light years better as a tackler than Holliman who is around 210 - 215.

I might revise my wish list and take a chance on Holliman in the 4th or 5th - and just hope and pray that our coaches can get him to take interest in the physical aspect of football.

I keep forgetting about Ifo, definitely would use a pick on him now.

I'd add Saxon to your TE list, if they can teach him to block he could be a big time weapon. I'm still pulling for Koyack though, lot of people on my told you so list :smiley1:

I like Cobb for RB, Kouandijo at OG, Holliman at FS, Sample at SS.

Don't really want anymore LB's taken, still have Sean Lemon and a slew of other guys waiting to find put about. Would be ok adding DE, little depth there but have no names to offer.

    Good list NY Steel

When it comes to the 4th round, this is where the steelers do have a trade history of even dealing their 3rd rounders in the next years draft for either an additional 4th rounder, or a huge move up in round 4. So if there is that special player that the steelers want...I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them jump up in this round. Now, for what player ?....who knows. Yeah I like Grant, and his late in the season play in the BCS games, and was my predicted pick in round 3 if they didn't address a CB in round 1 or 2, but alas they did with Golson, which is why they took Coates in round 3. I still think a FS is needed. I don't trust Mitchell at all. And to me, the best FS option for us...maybe even with our 4th rounder might be " Golson's " Ole Miss running mate...Cody Prewitt.

Prewitt like Golson is also a Ball-Hawking player, only with HEIGHT (LOL)..no but seriously, this guy has the better physical skills and can play inside the Box. As where Safties like Amos and Derron Smith cannot.

So besides Grant, and maybe Prewitt in the 4th, the only other player I can see the Steelers targeting is Local Boy, and a AP 1st teamer, and that is " TJ Clemmings ". He certainly would be good Value in round 4. Even if he needs some Technique coaching. Always relied on his great Physical abilities and quick feet in college. But he might be someone the Steelers could be looking at in round 4. I guess we shall see in a few hours huh fans.

Is TJ's foot career threatening? I'm pretty surprised he's still on the board. Can't see Grant making it much longer.

    Good lists above gentlemen.

Yes, he has a slight build, which is probably the reason. But he has shown to be durable in college, not missing a game.

I would add Cedric Thompson (Minn) and Jacob Hagen (Liberty) to the mix as 7 rounders or UDFAs if they want to add a safety.

TJ's foot ?..I don't know for sure, but it was never considered a Career ending Injury. TJ to me had great Physical skills that got him by at Pitt, but he also kinda struggled if you watched the Senior Bowl practices against some of the better D-Linemen who had good techniques. That is why I feel he didn't go in round 2, which is where a lot of experts had him going. Yeah I thought he should have gone no lower then Mid-3rd round. So anywhere in round 4, Clemmings is great Value.

Wasn't Sean Taylor a little light? Harris kind of reminds me a little of him.

Pretty much same for me. I'll throw Amos and Eskridge at saftey on top of that.

Think Koyack could be a gem if polished properly.

Just heard Mayock say that his foot issue has him off many teams' boards entirely. That's a shame.

Maybe so. But I heard that his foot Injury was not all that serious. Maybe the reports had it wrong.

Prewitt's coverage skills is a big reason why Golson could take so many chances at Interceptions. Putting them back together might make a lot of sense.

Yeah. I wonder how many teams had him off their board, and if the Steelers would have taken him if there. Oh well...
