With only 96 posts, I think you're too new to understand the beautiful irony of your post...or was it intentional?

I think I heard that the last two times we drafted linebackers in the first round, jones and shazier are still struggling along two years later, Dupree could be just another slow starter dealing with the transition to the NFL like these last two....

Who did you wish for them to take instead?

There was a corner and a saftey drafted after we made our pick, you can uses apples and oranges to argue that the value of dupree out weighed the value of the two DBs drafted after our pick, but only time will tell whether we got the value we think we have...

Probably a bit early to be describing Shazier as 'struggling'?

The guy was looking impressive until he was injured.

Truth is, dupree was a defensive end in college, and now he has to learn a new position at OLB, at 270 he obviously has to lose weight to be able to be faster off the edge, i'm just a little pessimistic about him learning the OLB position this year well enough to be comfortable there, or is he a two year project? At any rate he wont contribute much this year at LB.....

First day as a Steelers fan, I take it?

P.S., Dupree played plenty of linebacker in college, and while losing weight is a possibility, it might not be necessary - he looks very fast off the edge to me, and ran a 4.57.

That is probably true about every player drafted last night.

I just have the jitters from ghosts past, Alonzo Jackson defensive end was 6-4 265 similar in size, his 40 time was was just a tick slower at 4.73, he was asked to convert from DE to OLB, and we know the rest of that story, my hopes are higher for dupree, and I think he will be a good LB if he can handle the transition, just a bit early for me to jump on the band wagon, thats all.........

Yeah because Woodley was so slow and did nothing for the Steelers. He ran a 4.52 forty that would be the same as the corner everyone wanted.

Dupree lined up all over the place sometimes his hand would be in the dirt sometimes he would be standing and even has lined up inside. He will be great for the sub packages.

Every year there is one player who projects as a first-round selection that dominates the combine and displays freakish athleticism enough that vaults him a round higher than he should probably be drafted.
This year’s draft is also incredibly strong on defensive talent, specifically at defensive end and pass-rushing linebacker. Dupree owned the Combineand as a result will most likely be taken in the top 12-15 on Thursday night.
The biggest concern for Dupree is that he has a high floor and a low ceiling, and there are other players who project as potentially more dynamic players than the Wildcat.

Lamarr Woodley was a DE, and he couldn't run a 4.57 if he took a shortcut. Dupree is huge but not fat, and fast. None of that guarantees success, but he certainly has a better place to start.

We all know Dupree wasn't the most productive guy. 7.5 sacks. There have been reasons (excuses?) made for that, mostly about how he was used. To me the question is, is there anything that you can see on his tape that suggests he won't be able to learn our system and succeed in the NFL? Have you seen anything that says he can't do it?

The reason people that blow up the combine get drafted higher is because they have a high ceiling. I don't know if you wrote that or not, but it doesn't make much sense.

Furthermore, Dupree wound up being drafted at the exact spot where he was projected before the combine. It's not like he was a 2nd rounder before. Many were projecting we'd take him. Then he blew it up, and all of a sudden he was supposed to be out of our range. But that didn't happen. I can understand viewing him as something less than a steal, but not a reach. At worst he's appropriate value.

Last time we drafted __ in the first round:
    QB -11 years
    Safety -12 years
    TE 10 years
    RB - 7 years
    NT - 14 years
    WR - 9 years
    What's your point?

Not in my opinion sir. Dupree is a stud. And once he sees the field without constant double-teams...he will be licking his Chops.

I do believe the Steelers picked an athlectic and able DE to fill the role of an OLB.. He has a good skills and attitude and will transition nicely.

All due respect sir...Alonzo Jackson is nowhere near Dupree athletically. And 4.56 at 269lbs is a lot faster then 4.73. And explosion wise...try comparing what Jackson's Vertical, Broad Jump and 20 yard shuttle times were to Dupree. Alvin has some Raw tendencies. But he also was way more aggressive and disruptive then was fellow DE Dante Fowler Jr was. I have zero issues with saying Dupree will be better then the 3rd overall pick in this draft will be.

You call Dupree another Alonzo Jackson.....well I guarantee you that Dante Fowler will be another " Huey Richardson "

They should have done whatever was required for one of the two best corners. Haven't seen much about Dupree beyond the highlight clips but the Steelers needed a shut-down corner. Nothing but position mediocrity beyond this stage so why waste a 2nd-4th or even 5th round pick on corner? That ship has sailed.

Tom Bradys completion percentage drops about 25% when pressured in the pocket. He is the exact OPPOSITE of Big Ben when pressured. Tom Brady can slice and dice rookie CBs of any type. Not so much a 6' 4" and 1/2 270 pound Gorilla with 4.5 speed

Let me say that again, a rusher that is almost 6 5, 270 pounds, and runs a freaking 4.5

Brady will piss his pants the first time Bud Gorilla Monsoon Dupree tosses the tackle to the side like kindling .....
