I'm disturbed by the cheer number of TEs on that list. TE is not a need.

I'm glad they are looking at TE's, just not who they are looking at. From that list, Heuerman and Saxton intrigue me the most.

Emanuel would be an OLB in our system, not a DE. Preston Smith is borderline. He seems to be a fit as a 43 DE, but I've seen some folks who think he would be an OLB in a 34, and others who think he'd be a DE. My guess is that they're looking at him more as an OLB for our scheme.

So from our list of visits so far I see 4 clear-cut 1st rounders (as determined by pre-draft media hype):

    Perriman
    Peters
    Gregory
    Collins

With Rowe, Preston Smith, Harold and Strong being fringe 1st rounders.

We usually try to stick to the people who come in for visits, so from that list and based on who would realistically be there at #22, I think it comes down to Peters and Collins. No way do I want Peters, so I hope it would be Collins. Or even Rowe over Peters.

Good thing we brought a QB in for a visit

I don't want either Peters or Collins at 22. Peters for obvious reasons. Collins is a good player, but I see him as a throwback to when it was ok if you're strong safety wasn't so good in pass defense as long as he could stop the run. That's not the NFL of today, and I don't see 1st round value in that type of player anymore.

Steelers 2015 Draft Prospects: Updated list of all visits and invites

    By Simon Chester

With the draft prospect visits to the South Side facility in full swing we take a look at the names that have been linked to the Steelers in the up coming draft either via a meeting at the Senior Bowl, the Combine, their Pro Day or a Visit to Pittsburgh.

Over the years the Steelers pre-draft interest haven’t been the easiest to track when compared to other NFL teams. The team was allowed as many as 60 meetings at the NFL Combine and there is little doubt they met with their full allocation. At both the Senior Bowl and Shine Game the Steelers staff meet with many prospects, the specific information on who is less forth coming and names have not been added to the list without significant confirmation from respected reporters or the players themselves.

The names associated with the team prior to the draft, particularly those invited to Pittsburgh to meet the staff, have often featured heavily come draft day in recent years. Last year six of the nine players ultimately drafted were invited to town – Ryan Shazier, Stephon Tuitt, Martavis Bryant, Shaquille Richardson, Jordan Zumwalt and Rob Blanchflower. Wesley Johnson was also noted as a Pro Day meeting with only Dri Archer and Daniel McCullers not appearing on the teams radar ahead of time to outsiders.

In 2013 Jarvis Jones, Shamarko Thomas and Vince Williams all had visits to the Steelers home while Le’Veon Bell was a noted as a Pro Day meeting who also had a dinner with Tomlin along with a Private Workout. Landry Jones was seen at a Pro Day meeting with the team that year too. The list also identified Nic Embernate, who had a visit and Chris Hubbard, who had a Pro Day meeting, both of whom went on to be undrafted free agents that were signed by the Steelers after the draft. B.W. Webb was another player invited to town that year and although drafted by the Cowboys originally is now on the Steelers’ roster.

2012 saw Mike Adams, Kelvin Beachum, and David Paulson as Pre Draft visitors who went on to be drafted. Hebron Fangupo was another visitor who ultimately became a Steelers as was Michael Egnew who was signed this off season having been drafted in the third round by the Dolphins.

The 2011 Pre Draft visit list saw the Steelers entertain Marcus Gilbert, Curtis Brown, Cortez Allen and Keith Williams who became draft picks along with Weslye Saunders who was picked up as an UDFA.

In 2010 Maurkice Pouncey, Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown were the notable names from the list of visitors – Clifton Geathers, LeGarrett Blount were two more invitees that year who ended up in Pittsburgh eventually … albeit briefly in the case of Blount.

I'd much rather they take Rowe over any of those 4 guys.

Maybe, but I'd take Quentin Rollins, Byron Jones, PJ Williams (pending thorough vetting) or Nate Orchard over Rowe.

Not an awful lot of Safety visits. I suppose it's not a huge draft for that position, but it's my main concern going into next year...

Orchard, really? I haven't heard much press about him, and admittedly only watched one game of his but wasn't stoked about what I saw. Can't argue his production though.

GB and Mac good I foo. GB you listed 4 sure bet 1st round guys, and those are the ones I see out of our visits. The rest can be had later. At 22 it would almost serve us to trade down to get an extra 3rd, and trade up to the top of the 2nd. Those snagging 2 2nd rounders. Unless one of those "dinner" guys Mac listed falls to us that's what I think will happen.

I had to rewatch his tape. There's something there. I think what started to turn my view around was the Stanford tape against Andrus Peat. I would rather trade down a few spots than take any of those guys at 22, but that type of deal may not be available.

Interesting video on Gregory. The cat that made this video(and others) knows his stuff. The one he did on Jalen Collins is really good. They're football informative , not just player.

Here's a really good one on Dupree as well. He's probably risen out of our range anyway , but it's still a good video.

i feel this draft will be hard to determine based on what type of player butler will demand as opposed to what DL looked for. butler was a headsy player with good instincts. will he want to have OLB'ers with brains plus a decent pass rush and equally decent skills against the run? will he give up some of those traits for flat out speed and pass rush skills? will he want more physical skills over athleticism? will he want flat out athleticism and speed over size? we can figure that into CB skills too. zone, man, size, speed, brains? we just don't know what he prefers yet and what he wants to do with his type of guys. it could be quite different to the types of guys DL liked and we got used to drafting. hard to pinpoint right now.

I love the video on Dupree. I agree with everything in there, and I had even looked at Quinn as a comparison from an edge rushing perspective. I did have an additional observation. Dupree seemed to hesitate at the start of many plays, and I think that's a function of having too much on his plate when coaching time is limited. As a full time pro, he'll get the multiple reads and responsibilities down, and play faster. I personally think he'll go in the top 15, but if he gets to us I think it's a no brainer to take him unless Ray also falls. He will be a beast by 2016.
