Why do I get the feeling we'll take a TE?

Gee.... anyone getting the impression that we're planning on a late round TE acquisition? :smiley1:

I think we're limiting our interest to TEs with NFL potential. :lolol:

Ah, well that would certainly explain Walfords absence anyway.

Didn't know much about Xavier Cooper but seems like he can fit in a 3-4 or 4-3 which may show where Butler is heading. Giving both schemes some attention. I'll have to look some more into him.

Fastest 40 time for DL, so you know he'll get some attention from MT!! Pretty good athlete.

Love that we are looking at Heuerman. He is everything that being a Steeler is about. He was a team captain, and leader off the field as well. I think he has pretty good upside as a player too. He could become a very good blocker, and has enough raw athleticism to become a decent option in the passing game as well. Very much cut out of the same mold as Heath. While I don't think he will be quite as good as Heath, he will be a player with very similar game and maybe even someone you could view as a number one TE option in the future. Would love to have him. Shouldn't cost us more than a 4th or 5th round pick.

Probably the only TE I would like if they drafted one. I liked Aaron Lynch from Georgia in last years draft but they passed on him. Heuermann seems like a better athlete than Lynch, but both were known for their great blocking in college.

My only gripe about drafting a TE is that they seem to get one every year and they never seem to be more than an afterthought. Granted Miller and Spaeth are tough to beat out. (No one's beating out Miller imo, not yet.) I'd rather not draft one this year and get a high pick on a TE next year.

Thats because they have come in the 7th rd, in the last 5 years, they have draft 3, all in the 7th. Heath was a number 1 pick and Spaeth was in the 3rd. IF they are looking for their replacements, going to need to invest higher than a 7th in all likely hood.

Exactly my point for this year. Why spend a draft pick on a #3 TE. Let's see what Blanchflower can do and target a plus prospect next year. I guess I would rather spend a late round flier on a position other than the annual pick of TE. We could get Cameron Clear as an UDFA I bet and he seems like a great blocker.

I would love to target a pass threat/move TE early in next years draft.

Interestly, only one defensive lineman and no offensive lineman. What do we have left, 9 players to bring in?

The trick is drafting the right guy. I think there are a couple of TE's this year that can easily be better than a #3. Williams, Walford, Kroft, Koyack and Heuerman. I don't think we're gonna spend a number 1 on a TE but Walford or Williams would be great picks in round 2. Koyack seems to be a number 2 type. Solid all around player. Kroft isn't a traditional steelers TE. Interesting athleticism. I might have a little OSU bias, but I really do see the potential in Heuerman to be at the very least a very good number 2, if not a decent number 1 option. I think rounds 2-5 are a great spot to pick up a TE this year. Just has to be the right guy :)

Because they wouldn't be drafting a #3 TE, they'd be looking for a 1 or 2, Heath or Spaeth replacement. But if they keep drafting in the 7th, most likely they wont find better than a #3

You know I kinda like all this WR interest. Yeah, we need a CB and some other pieces on defense, but let's keep our options open.
