Maybe sullied is too strong. But it is cheapened when you avoid places simply out of concern for the weather. You know, the SAME weather they just played playoff games in.

I completely agree! If it's acceptable to play in terrible conditions let's say in the afc of NFC championship games which gets you into the Super Bowl.. Then why not the Super Bowl itself? The Super Bowl isn't a vacation for the teams involved. People are worried about parties and events? I Understand a lot comes with the game, it's all big business. But when you're worrying about cold weather because of parties? That's not football.. The super bowl should be about the game and not a social gathering.

    Beat me to it :lolol:

Llyod, you keep inferring that people are using strawman arguments when in fact they aren't. No where did Ray accuse you of saying that, he was merely making a point that if its ok to play the games leading up to the SB in inclement weather, then why can't the SB too?

I second this. Great post, PGH does not have enough hotel rooms yet to hold a Super Bowl.

Chalk me up as being in favor of the SB being played in a warm climate that allows the week's festivities to take place away from snow, ice and having to wear heavy coats. I plan to attend the next time the Steelers make it to the SB, and coming from New England I don't want to travel somewhere like Detroit and go from cold and crappy to someplace else cold and crappy. I want it to be a vacation for more than just game day. I don't think it sullied the game one bit. If it's a neutral site, make it a warm neutral site.

I know people who live in NO who get out of town when the SB is there because of how it screws with everyday life. I'm thinking the same would be true in Pittsburgh. Now I'm sure it would bring money into part of the economy, but at what cost?

Aside from hotel rooms, is Heinz Field big enough in terms of seats?

That's exactly my feeling too. I now live in FL, but now I wouldn't want a cold city SB because I'd have to leave my 75 and sunny FL to some God forsaken place like Detroit or Jersey. I wouldn't do it. As far as a lot of residents leaving New Orleans when the SB is there, I get it: residents get sick of all the crowds, etc. But that doesn't mean it's not the perfect city to host a SB.

"To each his own, said the old lady as she kissed a cow..." As my mother used to say. I'd much rather have the cold and snow than the humidity. Of course, I'd never spend the kind of money it would take to go to a SB, so.............

To each their own, but little known fact: There are some weeks in summer, every year, where PA has more humidity than parts of FL. The mid west and north east have summer days where it's hotter and more humid up north than in FL. I know it doesn't seem fair, but it's true.

I'm all about the north, but keep the Super Bowl south. Can't risk all the prep and planning and money to get sabotaged by a 24" snow dump. It's a logistics/safety issue for me.

Well yeah but thats true anywhere, thats just weather but overall, FL is worse, I spent a lot of time down there, I'll stick to the North East!

I'm a 50-60 degree guy, when it gets into the 80's, I start getting cranky and humidity is just adding fuel to the fire, no thanks.

FL is not the same all over. It varies greatly. If you live in North FL, close enough to the ocean to have an ocean breeze in your front yard, it is not the same animal as Orlando or some place like that. And a pool in your backyard makes you WANT the hot weather. We don't got into the water unless it's in the upper 80's.

I used to spend time in Bradenton, on the Gulf, I still burst into flames several times a week.

Football is intended to be played in the elements of Mother Nature. I would love to see a Super Bowl in Pittsburgh or Green Bay, heck even Chicago..... just like I'd like to see some (major) College Bowl games played in northern cities. For crying out loud, football isn't supposed to be played on the beach in bikini's.

Just imagine the flight cancellations with a 2 foot snowfall 2 days before the SB.... ugh.

Given what it costs to go to a SB, I doubt anyone would cancel because of snow! You could re-sell tickets to the game but, you'd lose airline/hotel deposits.

Gulf side usually feels hotter and heavier, at least when I have been there. If you live close enough to the ocean on east side, it pushes off some of the heat and humidity, but make no mistake, it still gets hot here as well, just not as bad. But that what the pool and beach are for. :smiley1:

About 4 years ago I was in Jacksonville the second week of September. I left the cool 70 degree weather of Pittsburgh to sit in a 93 degree inferno.

    This.

I know the standard "Football was meant to be played in the elements" statement, but for the biggest sporting event of the year, you've got to give yourself the best chance at good weather. This goes for the game itself too. I don't want to see an entire seasons worth of work and effort be negatively affected by the weather. Temperatures in the teens with below zero wind chill? No thanks.

I lost track of what a Super Bowl ticket costs any more but would 65,000 people pay that to go to Pittsburgh in February?

Personally, I love western pa most of the year, but I'm starting to think February should be spent somewhere south named after a French saint.

My experiences in FL have all been from Orlando south to Key West. I spent July 15th to early Oct. in Lauderdale, A week in Orlando,Spring Hill, Miami and the Keys in late July.It took me back to all the years I spent in Pto Vallarta and Acapulco. Still can't believe that, in the summer, people live in South FL. on purpose. Luckily, the SB isn't played in the summer months.
The Nov. and Dec. I spent in Lauderdale were cooler but, still humid!
I'd l'd mortgage my house to see the Steelers play the S.B. in Lambeau! THAT's football!!

There is no right or wrong answer. It's just a matter of opinion and preference. However, a football game is no less a football game if it's played is great weather. I wasn't interested in this last SB. I hate the Pats with a passion, and really don't care much for the Seahawks... But it was a great football game, even if it had the disadvantage of being played in Arizona where it wasn't icy and nasty.

Even with the addition of 3,000 seats Heinz Field is too small for a Super Bowl, they will have 68,000 seats after the remodeling.
