That was a thing of beauty. It's about as open and shut as this.

At the risk of ruining your mutual admiration society/circle jerk, I will respond, as you are full of straw man arguments, half truths and non sequiturs.

It seems you are lacking comprehension skills, or have a memory problem. let me spell this out for you ONE MORE TIME: I never asserted that the ENTIRE problem on D was LeBeau and his insistence that Troy should still be the freelancing star, HOWEVER, that probably was the SINGLE LARGEST problem, but far from the ONLY problem. You insistence to not grasp this - whether due to lack of capacity, or a purposeful obtuseness - is making this thread highly repetitive on an ad nauseam basis. You keep trying to put words in my mouth to then argue against something I never asserted to begin with. That is what you call a crutch in the debate scene. It is also a clear indication you are losing the debate.

See above. Not gonna repeat myself just because you keep using same straw man argument.

Apparently, you have more time than I do. I never said Troy was on the field every time a big pass play was given up. YOU are claiming I said that, but that doesn't make it true. I have a good enough memory that I don't need to go through hours of stats or game tapes to remember what I saw: Troy racing to nowhere, covering no one, and the opposing offense completing deep pass plays.

I don't have time to endlessly look up video of what I clearly recall and witnessed. If you really believe that Troy wasn't caught out of position, giving up big plays, then here is a cookie.

Do you have a point here, or should I repeat myself, AGAIN, that I never claimed every big play was Troy's fault? How many times should I repeat this, in hopes that someday you will grasp and retain this assertion?

I think you are arguing just to argue. The D might not be instantly better; it takes time for youth to get a grasp on things. But I _DO_ believe that this D will BEGIN a course towards improvement, partially BECAUSE we have moved on from the Dick and Troy show.

Now is the part where you go the straw man route, and argue against something I never asserted to begin with. Show me again a big play that Troy wasn't a part of, and tell me how it proves that not EVERY error was due to him and Dick. That should be lots of fun.

You know Lloyd, for someone who was complaining about personal attacks, you started tossing some insults around. Ease back on the throttle please.

Sooooooooooooooo first of all, I don't see any ad hominem attacks by me. Secondly, this guy went down the insult path, but no mention of that? Look at his tone. He took it towards insults when I never started down that path. Some even-handedness seems appropriate, do you not agree?

Should the board policies apply to everyone, or just some? And, I would think using straw man arguments would not be encouraged.

Thorn is a guy that's been around here for quite a while and as far as I know is a respected poster.
You've been around for just over a month and have posted some pretty off-the-wall nonsense. Pretty sure the benefit of the doubt is going to go to thorn. Besides I didn't see anything in thorns post that was overly harsh unlike yours. Seems to me like you just got butt hurt because the guy posted some facts and you couldn't deal with it?

I don't know what the heck you're talking about. There's nothing in Thorn's post that's personal or antagonistic. He debated your points effectively and politely, and you accused him of lacking comprehension skills. It's too bad you went there, because a few threads ago I recall you and Thorn saying how much you were enjoying a debate that you were having, and I had thought this might be headed in the same direction. Debating is great. That's one of the things that makes a message board fun. However escalation to insults never goes well for anyone involved, so please stick to debating the issues and don't degenerate to saying things like telling someone they lack comprehension skills. comprende?

To be fair Elvis the beat the drum comment could have been perceived as a personal comment which wasn't my intent but more a statement of continually restating the Troy/DL thought line

No, that's Greg Lloyd, and I would want to meet him in a dark alley as much as I would want to run into James Harrison. No thanks.

BTW, I read both responses. I don't see how Thorn's post is so polite and mine is so ad hominem. I don't see it. I didn't find a single point where I called him names. All I did was re-establish that I never asserted every big play was Dick and/or Troy's fault. I never made such a claim. I merely said the D would be better, moving forward, with those two gone. That is hardly the same thing as saying every big play given up was their fault. I don't know what is so hard to grasp about that, and that goes for any of you.

Matter of fact, my OP stated how I had more optimism for this D than the writer, but someone how got turned into me bashing. It was the opposite.

I haven't had time to respond to your post above and I hope to get time tonight to do so. I think what Elvis is referring to is first starting with admiration/slash circle jerk comment then proceeding to question m6 skills at comprehension and ability to grasp concepts these begin to look like personal attacks. I don't choose to look at them this way. I don't feel 5hats you are bashing Troy or Dick Lebeau, I think you have made up your mind and as you stated your thoughts on why you feel that it was the biggest problem. I don't agree and in challenging that I'm offering evidence that supports my position and am trying to draw you into debate to refine your position and understand why it is you think Troy was a huge negative. It's not an attack to say I see your point here is why I think your wrong. I think if you look at my response to Jack in the thread I actually think that it was a mistake to put Troy in the position they did but the most important part of DL's system is stuffing the run, they made a choice a bad one but they had to stop the run and that was the choice they made.

Just so so it's Steelers related, and the "steelers related police" don't get me: Regarding the original post, I am cautiously optimistic.

Oh no if you step in it you are going to hear it. One the reasons I try to avoid absolutes on the board. Ask Jack about the crow he had to eat after his Harrison rants. Most of it is good natured and meant to make us laugh at ourselves. God Bless Glenn Edwards.

Yep. A thick skin and not taking yourself too seriously are a couple of good qualities to have on this board and in life for that matter.

And...LONG LIVE GLENN EDWARDS AND MAY WE NEVER FORGET HIS PICK SIX IN 1974!!! :roflmao:
