You better believe it. But I can deal with all the disappointment as long as we bring home the Lombardi at the end of the year.

Then I'll start griping about all the deficiencies that I think will keep us from repeating.

we lost 2 corners. from a defensive backfield that led the league in plays over 40 yards.
we will most likely lose 2 safeties. not a great loss on the field really from last year but knowledge. neither of our current safeties has an interception.
we lost 1 olb. 7.5 sacks for 9.7 mil. dollars and don't have that much left in the pot to replace him with. it was spent elsewhere.
we lost 1 DE that had alot of pressures and a couple of sacks,

we brought back 9 sacks from the OLB spot, but are still down 7.5.
we brought back an interception or two from one corner, but are down 2 from another.
we tendered a safety that only plays ST's so far.

can we make up this difference in the draft? this seems like banking on an awful lot from rookies. our coach is saying he believes. our front office brought in no replacements for any of the spots lost. similar to not replacing the RB we lost last year which came back to bite us. it's hard to have alot of faith in what they are saying about believing in this group and wanting them to be dominant again with what they have done as opposed to what we saw last year. our best corner is in his final year, which is also a concern. i know many here want to believe in our higher ups but where do we get the improved production from?

Nothing really. But this convo was lead down this road on page one by someone who in an attempt to minimize Tomlins accomplishments alluded to Cowher by giving him credit for Tomlin's SB appearances.

I wonder who that guy was?

At the end of the day...its entertainment. Its not like the old days when the guys hated each other...these guys help each other up, etc.

A loss use to ruin my week...now it ruins an hour or two (except payoff losses)

I have spent thousands of dollars on the Steelers (and still do), but to me its more of a hobby now. Maybe I'm less of a fan than others, but when you see them joking, laughing, etc at the end of the games...it tells me that...yes they want to win, but if they lose they still get paid and its on to next week.

    Exactly.
I always find it funny when a fan "demands" something from a sports team. Singular fans are in no position to demand anything from a professional team and to think that you are is delusional. While in theory it is correct that you are the one spending your money and giving your support and therefore have a right to demand, the reality is far different. The reality is that you are one fan with an opinion and the money and support you give is insignificant to them. If push came to shove, they couldn't care less if you took your support and money to another NFL team. It would be foolish and futile to accommodate everyone...impossible. As a business you cannot please everyone, so you do your best to please as many as possible starting with the ones who are most important. And right or wrong, the most important are ones writing the big checks....the advertisers.

Sure it is possible that if you could muster up enough of an army regular fans to stir up enough negative publicity you may be able to influence them about some matters, but personnel decisions would most certainly not be one of them. As they shouldn't be.

So while it is fun to talk about and discuss our opinions of how the Steelers should be run and what they should or shouldn't do, we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that as Frick said, this is all just entertainment. Like watching a movie or reality TV. Demanding excellence from the Steelers is akin to demanding that Steven Spielberg make better Star Wars movies. Or MTV hire more interesting characters on their Real World series.

I don't think there's a problem with demanding perfection (with the obvious exception of when the demands are from people I'm married to).

But if I'm demanding something as big as perfection, then I need a big, detailed analysis of issues, rather than lumping all the possible problems with the team on a single figure or problem.

It is just like watching Star Wars ... if you're one of those nerds that spends his money on costumes. But it's not just entertainment. It's affiliation. There is no entertainment value in buying jerseys or helmets or Terrible Towels or commemorative anythings. If it was about entertainment, your attention would shift from season to season depending on which team was putting on the best show.

Dude belieeeeve me when I say this. There are TONS more people talking about Star Wars online AND buying Star Wars merchandise than HAVE ever or WILL ever buy Steelers stuff. HOWEVER, I do consider our team to be the "Star Wars" of the NFL in that the fanbase is incredibly rabid and obsessed with every little detail and looks at almost everything from a historical angle. Also our best days were in the 70s. As was Star Wars. Well, TECHNICALLY, Empire is the greatest Star Wars movie of all time and it came out in 1980 and we technically played our last Super Bowl as the Steel Curtain in 1980's calendar year but the greatness of Star Wars started in the 70s and it was what happened with Star Wars in the 70s that has made the franchise what it is today. The same goes for us. When you go to other stadiums you really see how big and passionate our fanbase is and BELIEVE me the local media takes notice. But overall there are legions of more Star Wars fans than Steelers fans and yes they never stop talking about it and they are always finding new things they never seen before. If you want an example of how obsessed that Star Wars fans are look up "The Phantom Edit" or "Han Shot First". Which he TOTALLY did btw. LOL!
