Didn't think they'd pull the trigger this early, but being that it's low risk, it's a bit of a no brainer.

I'm taking a little bit too much pleasure in this signing. Allow me a short moment to Snoopy dance and we will return to our regular scheduled program of grousing.

It doesn't really have any bearing on who they pick in the first round.

Thank you! Saw no reason to leave him hanging in the breeze, no top tier LB is suddenly going to become available.

    Good job Steelers :applaud:

I think they are going after the CB from Wake, Johnson. Even Rooney went to his pro day. But his 4.52 40 concerns me. I'd like a blazer for a CB taken in the 1st round.

The only thing this means is that we still can't quit our old favorites. The New York Yankees keep relics of former greats in Monument Park behind the center field fence in Yankee Stadium ... we keep ours on the field.

I wouldn't read much into that. He goes to several, though, it's possible that it's not the same Rooney you're thinking of.

Assuming the dollars are right - I think this is an insurance signing, and a wise one at that. There's no way to be assured of any draft pick at OLB being ready to contribute in 2015. There's also quite a bit of uncertainty about the OLBs currently on our roster. The free agent class of edge rushers was weak, and IMO way overpriced, and after seeing what they got paid I'm really glad we didn't bite. That leaves a guy like JH as a reasonably priced insurance option. Regardless of who we draft, JH will probably start at OLB out of the gate. If we get a really good edge rusher in the draft, and he eventually wins the starting spot, great. If not, we get starting caliber play at ROLB from JH.

If anyone thinks this was a bad signing, OK what would you have done at the OLB position?

Well when "relics" are better than the younger players and there is no margin for error in the 16 game NFL football season, you do what it takes to put the best team on the field.

Using the season to give crappy young players and opportunity to get better is closer to rebuilding a team than focusing on winning. Harrison worked his way up from the practice squad to special teams to backup OLB and when Porter left and he had a shot, he capitalized on it. A young player doesn't "deserve" regular season playing time just because he is young and "may" be the future of the position. You field the best team and play to win while seeing which young guys work hard in practice and special teams to deserve an opportunity to play in the regular season.

Not sign a 37 year old. You can count the LBs that have had productive seasons at age 37 on one hand and have fingers left over. Contrary to popular opinion, there was no sign in his play last season that he will be joining that exclusive club.

    Same, for multiple reasons :lolol:

Solid move over all though, if nothing else, he'll provide much needed depth.

Classic Snoopy by the way

So the regular season Ravens game was just a fluke right?

No, just contrary to yours. To most everyone else, they saw a guy come in and get after the QB and lift the defense up.

Don't waste your breath. We had the same argument this time last year with the naysayers. He elevates the defense to another level plain and simple and the leadership he can and does provide to our young LB corp can't be measured with statistics.......welcome back(again) James. This is where you belong!

Provided the money is right (which I think it will be), great signing. Veteran leader. Solid contributor. Not what he once was, but I don't think they're going to expect or ask him to be that guy. There's still a place and a role for Harrison on this team. Don't know how you can be against this move. If you are, you hate the Steelers and probably torture puppies and small kittens in your spare time. ;)

Well, you've said what you wouldn't have done, but not what you would have done. Who would be a better option for 2015, and at what price?
