This feels like a Randel El situation. Clearly Randel El(like Holmes) was a shell of what he had been. I just thought at the time, what are the chances they would've brought him in if he weren't a former popular Steeler, who made some memorable plays in big games(like Holmes)? Not very likely. It was clearly a sentimental move. We know how that worked out.

I will always remember Holmes fondly for that unbelievable catch he made that gave me one of the biggest thrills of my sports spectator life. But, signing him with hopes that he's going to make some kind of impact is pretty unrealistic. If they want to sign him to a one day deal so he can retire a Steeler, I'm fine with that of course.

Why would he be Ben's #2 target? He hasn't been with this team in years. Then cut in camp? Huh? Bryant is the #2 and having Holmes come in and stunt the growth of any of the young receivers would be mind numbing. The Steelers brass knew what they were doing when they shipped him off for wait, a 5th round pick. A Super Bowl MVP for a 5th round pick.

I feel sorry for the horse that's get beaten...

Ben has shown time and time again that when he clicks with someone he is money. He will thread that ball into double coverage to AB but have the ugliest dump off to an open Wheaton. It why Heath and Brown are favorite targets when he needs a first down, it's why he and Holmes made a heck of a drive in sb43. It's also why Moore struggled, wheaton struggles, why Sanders struggled. If Ben has confidence in you then you will make some beautiful catches.I was basically saying based on previous chemistry Ben and Holmes would click but it could also he bad as well ie forcing the ball into bad situations trying to regain that chemistry.

I'm torn with this one. I kinda believe he may be worth a try due to chemistry with Ben. I could see him taking some of Wheatons plays but not Ab or Bryant. Also at the Vet min. And like Freak said If he screws up at the slightest just get rid of him. I would think he would make more plays then Wheaton in the present, but Wheaton has a better long term upside.

    Lol. Cruel but funny.

The new concession guy will turn into the best FA signing yet, mark my words.

This is a pretty good point, he could be your punt returner and maybe even kickoffs. The problem with signing Holmes is he pretty much is your 4th receiver...no way do I want him to move up the depth chart over Bryant or Wheaton...and that means as being the 4th receiver you pretty much have to play special teams. Heyward-Bey was a willing participant for that...not sure Holmes would be willing.

I think AB is so awesome at that that they wouldn't take that from him and give it to Holmes. I personally was always just sorta indifferent towards Holmes as a whole. I remember a game he had as a rookie where he muffed multiple punts and Cowher absolutely losing his mind. It was maybe in Cleveland? He played big in some big games though and that's something you can't always count on from a lot of guys. I remember his punt return against San Diego that year and of course the whole DRIVE in Super Bowl 43. I actually have a painting of him making that catch at the end. Dang I get pumped up even just thinking about it. LOL.

That was a goosebump-inducing moment, for sure. But I don't want his selfish, thug, weed, dumb ways infecting our team.

I don't know. Now that I think about it maybe we could bring back Plax, Holmes, Blount, and pair them up with Blake and Bell and call them "The Chain Gang". I mean there really aren't good nicknames like there used to be and I want to bring back the age of cool nicknames.

Surely their nickname would be "the Bengals"?

No, "The Chaingang" would be PERFECT, in our convict,(I mean BumbleBee), uniforms!!!.. LOL...:roflmao:

Seriously, tho, I hadn`t considered using him almost exclusively, at kick/punt returns...

That`s really not a bad idea, if we have a roster spot to use for that...

    I`m not like Tomlin..

I`m too scared of injury to our #1 reciever, to let him return kicks/punts...

Plus, he cost me money(and US a probable win), fumbling a punt return against Dallas.. LOL...

    GO STEELERS!

That made me laugh because I live near Cincinnati and a friend of mine said they bought a hot dog from Icky Woods at one of the concession stands at a Bengals game. :)

Yeah I think he sells stuff there for his foundation. I saw something one time where he said that people still come up and ask him to do the shuffle and he said he always says "dude I'm an old man and I don't do the shuffle no mo". LOL.

Live just outside of Cincy as well. I see Icky Woods all the time selling memorabilia for his foundation. I always ask him to do the shuffle and he has yet to do it for me or anyone else. His commercial must have paid him a lot.

He is a good guy though. Sucks his son died.

You know how many times he must get asked to do that? I wouldn't do it either unless I was paid to.

I'm certain that he gets asked all the time. Probably wishes that he never started in the first place. But if he didn't, then he would also be a complete unknown outside of this area.

Yeah I heard Solomon Wilcotts on the radio a few months ago saying that he was really good friends with Icky and talking about how passionate he is about his foundation. He said that he sorta uses it as a coping and recovery mechanism after his son died to sorta turn a negative in to a positive. He said that they were also having like a cruise and a golf tournament in another country and a lot of former Steelers and Bengals were gonna be there and Icky was one of them to raise money for the foundation. Apparently his son was really good at football and looked to have a promising future.

I don't even want to admit what I thought you wrote when I just glanced at this. I had to back up for sure. Remove a "c" and add an "n" and you see what I thought you posted and I had no idea why. :lolol:

Yup, it's totally legal, and they made so much state tax $ that they don't even know what to do with it. I wonder if the lettuce allowance will make more free agents want to go to Denver.

Read the summary at the end; it's exactly how I feel about him, which I expressed in the title of this thread. He is baffled why no one wants to sign him, but most of the rest of us are not. Plus, he is known as a non team guy, has a history of domestic violence, hippie lettuce activity and like 6 kids with 6 different women, or something like that.

Not the brightest bulb, to say the least.

Ha! I want to watch the hilarity that ensues the first time the NFL tries to discipline a player for failing a drug test and that player can demonstrate that he was in Colorado (or somewhere else that it's legal) at some point during the time when his weed smoking could have occurred. Or even better, if a player gets a prescription for medicinal marijuana for the aches and pains of being routinely pummeled by 300 lb. men on the field.

Just because it is legal doesn't mean they can do it in Colorado. When you work for a business you surrender your ability to exercise certain rights. For example, I have the right to keep and bare arms as an American BUT I DON'T have the right to take it on to UPS property because they have a policy that says no firearms are allowed. I also have a First Amendment right to freedom of speech but I DON'T have the right to cuss my boss out and expect no repercussions. The thing is they are not infringing on my rights because I'm not being forced to work there. I do so of my own volition. The same thing goes for NFL players. If they have a policy that bans drugs or certain types of meds or whatever it might be it is their right to do so because they aren't forcing the players to play. So I don't think players will have a leg to stand on who try to play that card.
