I dont know what you are rambling about, nothing you said there represents my position at all. Never said keep Troy, never said they should keep a bunch of 40 year olds, I mean really, I'm at a loss as to how you got so lost in this discussion, maybe you mistook me for someone else.

    This.

I'm talking about 2 years ago they should've done this ( minus the beard he was still producing) As for letting Troy go before the 2014 season? , yes I would've he isn't worth the money that he is making, he was getting paid big bucks to stand on the sideline. It's hurting the team cus they can't go after the better free agents when their money is tide up in the has beens. As for Foote I know he's gone they kept him around for too long, I already talked about him

He would've been getting paid big even if he wasn't here though wouldn't he? I mean they owed him guaranteed money right?

I don' know if they "owed" him guaranteed $ or if they already PAID him that money. The remaining money on the signing bonus would hit the cap all at once if they cut him though. Less $ will hit it if they wait until June 1, which appears is what they are doing.

I was talking about if he had been cut before the 2014 season. What would the cost have been to do that? Just making sure we're on the same page.

Why, he played well in 2013, 2 Int, 1 returned for a TD, 5 FF, 2 sacks. Now if they held onto his this year, I'd think they be holding onto him too long but I agree with Blount and think they tend to get rid of players when they should.

Troy was solid in the box in 2013, but was pretty iffy in coverage. I think he entered the 2014 season as our best option at SS, but played pretty poorly. I'd like to say it's clear that he's not the best option at SS for 2015, but I'm not sure who exactly our best option is. Is the plan to give the job to Shamarko, sink or swim? I think that he's a better option than Troy, but I certainly don't have enough info to KNOW that he's a better option.

    Re: best option

When he was drafted there was talk about Spence dropping back from LB to SS. Does anyone think that's an option? Not sure how he's recovered from his injury cause I don't think we saw a lot of him last year.

I'm no expert on this. But there is 'real' money and 'cap' money.

Troy got or will get all his guaranteed money. Usually the guaranteed money is the signing bonus, and the first yr (maybe the 2nd yr too). The player gets this no matter what. The later years are not guaranteed but are pay as you go.

For cap reason, the signing bonus gets spread out over the life of the contract. Troy long pocketed this money, but if he still has yrs on his contact, all of the bonus has not been 'spent' against the cap. If they let him go, the have to spent the remaining part against the cap this yr. it will be so called 'dead money'

Hello $6 million, maybe they can make a trade at the draft and sign a real starter on D

IFFY? He should have had a picture of a toaster with two pieces of toast popping up in coverage for his number, instead of 43. Troy I love ya but your time has come.

I'm not big stats guy, stats can be deceiving they don't tell the whole story. Those INT's were most likely thrown right at him, either thrown over the receivers head or the receiver ran the wrong route and Troy just happen to be at the right place at the right time, they weren't from covering.

That pick 6 he had against Miami was great. Sadly we still got beat, in the snow, by a Miami qb.

Well that changes everything then, I guess those interceptions and forced fumbles had no effect on those games :lolol: I guess the stats only matter when you point them out to "show" players had a "bad" season.

Like I said, I disagree with you, none of those players you mentioned have been kept too long, Steelers got rid of them at the right time, especially when considering who was available to step in, things like that play into the decision.

Draft this safety and let Troy move on to his life's work:

    1. Gerod Holliman**, S, Louisville
      Height: 6-2. Weight: 213.
      Projected 40 Time: 4.63.
      Projected Round (2015): 2-3.

2/7/15: Holliman enjoyed a massive 2014 season for the Cardinals. Replacing Calin Pryor, Holliman was one of the breakout players in college football. He led the nation with 14 interceptions. The redshirt sophomore also had 40 tackles with three passes broken up. Holliman had an excellent game against Florida State with two interceptions. He also had two picks against Virginia and Florida International. Holliman returned the one against Florida International for a touchdown. He has both size and instincts, but has to get better at tackling and providing more stable support in the ground game.

Like you said to me earlier,, this is your own personal opinion,,,, stats speak for themselves, the D has been taking a nose dive for awhile and I blame lebeau for wanting to keep his security blanket around for awhile. ( As in keeping his has beens starters around for too long)

isn't his 4.63,,, 40 time kind of slow for that position? Troy was a 4.30 guy

GOD NO. Watch his tape. He can't, and won't, tackle. The statement in that quote that he needs to "get better" at tackling is an understatement. I had read somewhere that he had the worst missed tackle to tackle opportunity ratio of ALL players in the FBS. Not all players being considered draft worthy, all players period. The tape shows it.

I don't think Lebeau had the power to make cuts or retain players though did he? Doesn't that pretty much all fall on Tomlin and maybe KC a little?
