.....we really don't care. Sure the Super Bowl performance that helped win that game, fond memories.

    http://www.steelersdepot.com/2015/0...se-but-to-finish-my-career-with-the-steelers/

And some other big games, especially vs. the Ravens.

But on balance, most of us don't cherish the guy...most of us will remember him for being a knucklehead more than anything else. And being a big pot head.

I really don't think the team, or fans, give a rat's behind if he retires here or not. He is just sniffing around for his last contract. He's trash. Don't need his influence around the team.

Yeah, really don't know what he has left but might be worth kicking the tires on for a 4th receiver.

Not sure who "most of us" are, but you don't speak for me. I remember perhaps the greatest pass and catch in Super Bowl history, and a guy who dominated in that postseason with huge plays in both playoff games, and was amazing during that Super Bowl. Did he screw up? Yes. Was he a bonehead? Yes. Do I want him back? Probably not even at the vet minimum.

However, Super Bowl titles are rare. Without Holmes, we have 5 instead of 6, and I don't think there's even a reasonable doubt about that. Teams are willing to mortgage their futures to win a single championship, and I'm not going to let Holmes' stupidity after 2009 make me dismiss what he did to help us win our 6th.

Not sure what he has left but if he did come back I can see him being Ben's number two target behind AB just from a familiarity stand point. Until the end of camp when he is cut

It is kind of amazing how his career tanked. Based on his time here, there isn't any reason that he shouldn't have been a big time receiver somewhere else.

Plaxico was a knucklehead too, but continued to be a big time receiver... what gives? I just don't really get it?

He was devastating as a PR. I remember re-watching the play-off game against the Ravens before SB43. It's an absolute non-game before he takes a punt from nowhere and takes it to the house.

He did turn into something of an idiot later. But I agree with Elvis that the catch at the end of 43 was one of the greatest ever.

Interesting, the way that I remember it he took the punt to the house against the Chargers in the divisional round. In the Ravens game, there was a play where Ben improvised and Holmes got free from his guy, and the sandlot play that ensued ended up being a 65+ yard TD after Holmes wove his way to the end zone. Did I get those games backwards?

No, it's me that's got them backwards - having checked, the punt return was against San Diego. My memory is awful!

    Here's the bugger:

Santonio is the anti-AB. While AB busts his ass everyday to maximize his talents, Santonio chose the life and career of a slacker. He's been in decline for 5 years, and he just turned 31.

No thanks! He could have been great, but he chose not to be. Our young players (Bryant, Wheaton, Bell ...) don't need that around.

I'd potentially welcome him back...on a vet min deal...

Has he had any other issues off the field since the Steelers traded him?

Was there for that game—and it was awesome.
    He is a knucklehead...no thanks to a re-sign.

That's why I said "_most_ of us" because I knew not everyone would agree, but all the Steeler fans I know in real life don't care to bring him back. As a matter of fact, the Super Bowl performance you speak of was 7 years ago. It's not as if he is the same player as back then. And the last two teams he was on, he did jack squat.

He is not a team first guy, so why have him around?

Holmes is definitely a knucklehead, but the biggest reason his career fell off was he went to the Jets. They have been one of the worst passing teams in the NFL the last few years.

I'm surprised he doesn't want to retire as a Jet.

Really? Hey, Holmes let stupidity get the best of him but he was a big time player at big moments in big games. He, along with Ben of course, put the team on his shoulders in the Super Bowl against the Cards. I sure wish we'd had him on that last drive in the Super Bowl against the Pack instead of Mikey. It may have been a different outcome.

I would love for Holmes to come back!

And work for the new concession director at Heinz Field. Think about it. Could be a great marketing ploy. Set him up right in front of the Lombardi that he sealed for us selling Roethlisberger's.

I didn't say I wanted him around. I said that I don't remember him as a knucklehead, I remember him as a SB MVP who helped bring us a championship.

Aaaannnddd... He had some key blocks in that first clip,. against the Chargers...

He did a good job of redeeming himself, from a dropped pass, before he HELPED us win the SUPERBOWL against the Cards..

Nothing against him, but, it`s a TEAM game...

Think we get that chance without Harrison picking off the ball, and running 100 yards with it?

Or Ben having faith to throw to him,.. after he dropped the first one????

    TEAM GAME...

    But, yeah... he DID GOOD!

I don`t want him back, only because, we have enuff talent,now...

    No Doubt, he helped then...:hmmm:

And he`s a Buckeye!!! GOTTA LOVE CHAMPIONS!!!!!
