Well, see you with DL and Harrison in Tenn., for your swan song. Then return here in the not so distant future for that anti-climatic "retire as a Steeler" presser. It will be a Monday.

Agree, I think that's what the hold up is now. He's thinking about it and debating within himself.

I think Troy might have 1 or 2 seasons left if he converted to LB . He could not be a LB in a 3-4 , but he could be a will in a 4-3 with a huge DT in front of him .IMO he does have value in that regard , but almost zero value as a SS .

Troy is done do we really need another season to see it again. The $6 million they can save June 1st is worth a heck of a lot more than what he can do.

I want Troy here for another year. He has missed a step- I agree with that. But I don't at all agree that it's because he's old. That's just a bunch of ****. I think that he started to go down hill when he got hurt. Maybe this is a bad way to think- but that's why I don't own a football team. I think that if a player plays his entire career with a team and made an impact, that team should give that player the same loyalty- unless that player just got BAD. But the kind of players I'm talking about- the great players rarely get BAD. And I'm not saying that the team should give them a big contract. They should tell the player that they'll give them one more year- with less money and that's it. That's what we SHOULD'VE done with Hines, Keisel, & Troy. Harrison though- he's completely different. When I found out we got him, I was nervous. But he was great. He came back for US. He got back in shape for us. We should give him 1 more year.

The homer in me wants him too, the realist says his time had passed. Dam that's sad all these guys I have enjoyed playing are at their end or already retired. I must be old.

He's over and done with, he can't run and he can't tackle head first anymore. Loyalty is what buries a team, they've done that enough already, it's time to move forward and think of the future. With a new DC this is the time for the old farts to go away and let the new guys come in and learn the new system. They can save $6 million june 1st, they can use that to keep the new guys around instead of losing them.

I like steelcop's Version much better. Said the same thing as Jim without running Troy into the ground.

yeah I guess I could be nicer , especially in Troys case, he was a beast!! , it just drives me nuts when they keep guys around for too long, and I think Lebeau had a lot to do with it. Steelers used to be the best when it came to replacing players before they were on the verge of retirement.

Who have they kept too long? They didn't bring back JH and Keisel until injuries forced them too and both performed well anyway. I guess maybe Clark but there was no indication his play would drop off that sharply. They made the tough cut with Ward although some would argue a year too late.

Agreed. I honestly do not think Troy will play for someone else. If he does, for how long? One more year? Is it worth picking up everything and playing for someone else for a lousy six months?

Wasnt Farrior one tackle off the team lead his last season? Totally disagree there also the year after Hampton left our run defense fell apart so disagree there as well. Foote just had a very solid year for the cards also.

Kent Graham, Chad Scott, and Troy Edwards. Oh, and Kordell - he sucked for years before they let him go, except for the year right before. Or something.

Just because he was 1 tackle off doesn't mean that he was still good, his outside speed was gone, he got most of his tackles from the guys who ran straight at him, and he became too slow to cover the TE's, Hampton was getting pushed around like a rag doll, Mclendon was moving the pile back, Foote was doing nothing here , if he had a better season with the cards good for him, he's on their coaching staff now.

Not that it matters, but I watched some AZ games last year, and Foote made a lot of plays that made me take note; he was fast and splashed off the screen, making me ask, "Who is that" and it was him. I was really surprised he looked so good.

Yeah, I don't agree with that list either. I think the Steelers make the hard cut when they have to, like they will do with Troy, if he forces their hand.

You don't have to agree with the list , the D's results speak for themselves , the D wasn't ranked the oldest in the league for nothing. Troy wouldn't be a hard cut, that would be one of the easiest to make, he's slow, injury prone, and makes too much money for the level he's at now. If Foote looked better in a Cards uniform, I would put the blame on Lebeau for holding him back.

yeah real shocking... like I said the D's results speaks for themselves , it doesn't matter about opinions ,, it's the results that count, and the D is old and garbage and you want to keep the old players around?? lol If the team went by your opinion the D would be full of 40 year old has beens, making $4 - $6 million a year standing on the sidelines injured ( because we want to stay loyal to them) who cares about the rest of the team, we have to stay loyal to 1 or 2 players and blow another season, because these players are at the point where they couldn't even cover their grandmother lol

I saw him make some plays as well. The thing is though that even though some guys might have a little left in the tank they probably don't feel like it's worth risking losing or slowing the progress of a younger guy that is gonna have to be there for the long haul. So I think that has to play in to their decision on who to cut and who to keep. In planning for the future you might have to let go of a few guys that can make a few plays now in order to develop a guy that's gonna make a lot of plays later.

The let Da Beard go already and they've said that Troy isn't in their future plans according to an article I read on NFL.COM a couple of weeks ago. They also let Harrison go TWICE and only brought him back out of necessity this year. They also let Larry Foote go and Ike is done as well. They also didn't try to bring Ryan Clark back. I think it's a bit of a misconception that we can't let people go. Out of curiosity, would you have cut Troy before the 2014 season?
