For Steelers or Otherwise? ... thoughts?

Sounds like he might still want to play ... I got to say though .... I went to training camp this past year and he was kind of just hanging by himself or just Ike when on the field. Didn't seem that into it.

Hopefully he won't play at all, but if he does it better be with someone else.

I think Troy is done. I hate to see him go because I still think of him as the player he was when our defense was really dominant but the reality is that those days are long gone. Still one of the all time greats though and I think by the time my son is old enough to go to games with his son there will still be number 43 jerseys all over the stands in any stadium we play in.

I'm sure he wants to, but I don't see how he can after the team "leaked" that they are hoping he retires. It would take serious balls for him to force his way back.

I hope he comes back in a very reduced role, but it would be so sad to see QBs pick on him if he is slow, rather than avoid him because he is on the field.

Troy wants to play as many older players feel. Eg Hines Ward.

The Steelers have said they talked to Troy and have not said they want him back. Therefore, they do not.

I'm not seeing a scenario where he plays for the Steelers.

I asked this on another post but it was at the tail end and I didn't see a response. I read that if Troy retires the Steelers could get back a big chunk of money from the signing bonus. Would this literally require Troy writing a check? In which case he would be a knucklehead to retire. Or is this just funny money in cap space?

I don't know the answer to your question but I agree that I don't see him playing here anymore. Steelers have shown they can make those tough cuts when they feel a player is done.

That technically is not an answer to my question, but yes, you are right, they would not do that.

Troy's finished. The Steelers know it. Troy knows it. It's time for everyone to acknowledge it.

If he felt that way, he'd have announced his retirement by now. I gather he is debating whether he wants to play for another team or retire.

Troy is a football player and will play for any team that asks him to play. That is just how some of these guys are. They cant give it up. Cant say I blame them.

He's going through what all great players go through when it's time to hang up the cleats, denial. He may not say it out loud, but when he's all alone with his thoughts I have to believe that Troy knows his time in the NFL is over. At least his time as the spectacular difference maker he's always been is over and I just can't see Troy settling for anything less than that. I'd almost be disappointed if he did.

It really kills me to say this, but after watching him play last year, I don`t want him back.
He was hurting us more than helping us..

I do agree with BFT, tho, when his now young son, Ben, is taking HIS kids to the games, there will still be fans sporting the #43 jerseys!!!

I will be one of them, provided, I`m still walking, and my old #58 is too beat up, to respectably wear in public!

Nah, I`ll just buy another 58, but, I`m sure I will see plenty of "43`s"...

He has meant that much to this team...

Rare talent, and character... I highly doubt he will play for another team...

Although, with LeBeau in Tennesse, I wouldn`t be shocked.

Hard to move on from players you love, but, as I`ve gotten older, I`ve come to realize it`s inevitable...

Skills diminish, and I don`t blame him for wanting to continue to play, I just don`t think he helps us, like he used to...

Deebo, MIGHT help us one more year, but, same problem...

    He loves LeBeau...

It was a miracle, IMO, that we got Keisel, last year... but don`t blame the front office for not trying it again this year.
He was playing very well when he got hurt, at the end of the year, and at some point...

    Ya just gotta admit,

It`s more likely he gets hurt, than that he goes another season.
I was glad we had all of them.

    Time to move on...
    Whether it hurts, or not...

And I was one that campaigned for ALL of them last year...

NOT this year... It`s time for change.
I think Harrison could help for one more year, but his heart is with LeBeau...

    You`ve all seen the interview.
    He won`t be back.

I will miss them all, and root for their replacements!!!(And give Worillds an "attaboy", for doing what he feels is right!)

    GO STEELERS!!!

I really feel sorry for the city of Pittsburgh right now because with Keisel being cut and the possible force retirement of Troy they is going to be a lot of charity work that loses some very public faces. I know Da'Beard has strong ties with the community but will Troy and his family stay when he is done? Don't they split time in Southern California? I know Hines still does a lot for the community as do alot of Steelers but as their visibility lessens sometimes the charity stuff does as well. I hope some of the youngsters step up and follow the lead set by these guys.

From what I read Troy sold his house in So Cal. and proclaimed himself a yinzer for life. Does that mean he wont play for another team. Not at all.Just that his family will always call DA Burgh home.

At the risk of highjacking this, I just wanna say real quick, that Ben will still contribute, Hines, probably will too, Bettis has been for awhile,

Not sure, but I`m guessing Aaron Smith still does, the Beard almost certainly will, and a host of other past players probably are still involved, even though I have no firsthand knowledge of that.

The Rooneys have always fosterd a sense of family, and community, in their players, and probably still do, even though, not as much as in the past, based on various ex-player interviews I`ve read...

    Your point is well taken.

    I hope the tradition continues.

    I have faith it will...

Same family is still in charge, even if times have changed.;-):yeehaw:

Lets put the injuries aside, his slowing down. I would be worried about the head trauma. If he wants to play so be it, but not for the Steelers. I would cut him post June 1st and save I believe 6 mill. He will retire a Steeler and go into the Hall as a Steeler. I could possibly see him going to Tennessee to help LeBeau for a year although I hope he retires...

I hope he doesn't play for the Steelers, he's a liability in pass coverage he needs to retire already. What's the point in playing another year if he goes to a crappy team, ala Ryan Clark with the Redskins last season.
