Is there an actual confirmable human source? Because Twitter doesn't mean anything.

The quotes from Twitter are from Worilds agent. So yeah...I guess we'll know if this is true or not soon enough, but yeah.

Because it would be the first time some idiot's twitter account gets hacked? I'm suspicious of any breaking news coming from an agent after midnight on twitter. Until someone actually reports that they talked to the agent, I'm not swallowing.

He'll change his mind in a few weeks. I think this is an act of frustration.

Always got the feeling JW was a little sensitive, I think he is depressed about his value not being higher. Won't be surprised if changes his mind about this.

I was going to make a post earlier that I thought his chances of returning to the Steelers had increased since no one else signed him, didn't see this coming.

Still seems fishy coming at this hour, even in a world of social media and instant news, would think they'd hold off until later today.

Never was a fan. Liked his half a season effort a couple years ago.... But outside of that he's garbage and I'm nicely surprised the steelers didn't get all Woodley contract with him which I thought they might!

irregardless, I thank him For his time and what he did do... Now let's get back to business Boys!

He was never garbage. The first few years he couldn't get on the field because of who he was playing behind. Not his fault at all. Then he underwhelmed at ROLB, but he's always been good at LOLB. Since taking over last year, he's been good. Not Woodley, not Harrison, but better than Haggans. Overpaying him would not have been wise, but if you take money out of the equation, he was a good player for us, and I would have welcomed him back with open arms at a reasonable price.

I say good for him. 27 years old, tons of money in the bank, and by quitting now he probably won't keel over when he's 55.

It's entirely possible that he was on the fence about playing again anyway... He could have made up his mind months ago that he would only play for a certain amount of money, and when he learned this week he wouldn't get it, he went for it.

He definitely wasn't garbage- we just didn't get what we expected to get out of him.

This is a bit of Jason's statement.
"I appreciate all of the interest from the organizations that have reached out to us the past few days. With that being said, after much thought & consideration I have chosen to step away from football as I have opted to pursue other interests."

Anyone else wondering what "other interests" he's "opted to pursue"?

He wasnt worth what he wanted, he wasn't worth the drama with the excuses. I enjoyed when he showed up but that's about it. I appreciate what he did when serviceable, maybe garbage is a rough term but of course I tend to think that when all players whine about this or that without having much to back it up.

i wish him well, and am glad we didn't overpay for him. Some will agree others not so much, but we didn't lose much after all the the page drama about this dude. I was all for bringing him back at the right price because sometimes he gets it and we needed the depth. Plus I like the dude and he's a steeler. I just get pissed when they believe they are above the need and the excuses flow.

Sorry if ioffended anyone or Jason personally, but it's just my opinion and retirement aside, we needed to replace him asap in one fashion or another as it was before today.

I feel like I just had this debate with someone. Might have been you. I remember winning it, so maybe if I feel inclined I'll look it up and copy and paste. :smiley1:

I think the short version was that he never whined. He did answer some direct questions honestly, and they didn't even seem out of line. It was like, "Do you wish you were getting more sacks?" "Yeah, they have me in coverage a lot this year, and it's hard to get sacks in coverage." I've also only heard positive things from teammates and reporters.

I certainly don't remember any drama with him. I think of him as a good teammate and a good presence. Not outstanding, like lifting everyone around him, but good.

My take on Worilds is that he was a really nice backup, but as a starter he was a guy that made me long for an upgrade. He was competent, but not the caliber OLB that I want starting in our defense.

My guess is that the interest by other teams was very low compared to what he was expecting, and he is a bit disillusioned. I can't say I'd blame him if that's the case. The media had been hyping his upcoming payday. The timing of the announcement makes me feel pretty sure that this was not a planned retirement, but rather an emotional response. Good luck Jason.

Seems that some of you can't read, or understand why it is he is stepping away. Instead of putting your opinions into the ring as he was "soft" or " disappointed in his lack of FA interest" ( he was going to sign a 6-9 mill a year contract btw) or " disappointed with his career" most of you missed his reason. Pursuing his faith is what is leading him to other avenues. It is why he is leaving millions on the table, and walking away. Seems like some on this board could use some faith every now and then.

No way, I don't buy it. If I had to guess, he'll be a Steeler with a new contract in a few weeks...

We really need to move on from the Cowher players in serious decline. You can't expect to compete for a championship with a geriatric unit in the trainer's room.

Greg Warren should be the oldest player on this team this season ... and only if some kid can't beat him out.

Whelp, Time to sign Deebo to another contract and at least bring him to camp so the other rookies can learn from him as well as Porter!

Huge mistake last year not bringing Bret and James to camp to help out! Especially since they just cut the camp bodies they had!
