One of the beat writer's from the Post Gazette mentioned Archer was a 5th rd prospect that's what I was basing it on. Bottom line it was a luxury pick the Steelers shouldn't have made. They should've double dipped at the CB position in last years draft, when there was a lot of depth in the draft.

archer was a rare prospect that was ranked as a 3rd round wr. we needed wr's. he was ranked by some as a 5th round rb. very misleading in where he was ranked for the most part. he took a jump right around draft time because of his position flexibility and speed, and we needed both positions at the time.

we also had ike back that was a starter, gay as a part time starter and nickel, and cortez as the new starter at the time. they were also fairly high on blake and had McCain signed, so there wasn't at draft time the need for double dipping. we took one in the 6th that had some decent speed and did pretty well in college. where were we supposed to put this double dip at the time?

hindsight is pretty clear now but at the time dri was a two for one in positions we needed worse than corner.

We missed the boat when Revis was picked in the 1st round a few years back and we only needed to trade up from the 15 spot to the 14 spot, even though revis was a contract problem later on, he still had a high trade value, but the reallity is the last corner we drafted in the 1st round was Chad Scott back in the 90s, thats a long time ago, Scott never lived up to his draft status, but does that mean there needs to be a permanent draft ban on drafting corners in the 1st round??

only if they are good enough for that first round spot diamond. McFadden was a 2nd round corner.

BS they were fooling themselves thinking they could get another quality year from Ike, and McCain and Blake aren't longterm answers at CB. They double dipped at ILB which didn't seem necessary, so why not at CB when there was depth in the draft.

Even if the Steelers drafted Revis he wouldn't have lasted long with the team with his contract demands.

They damn well should have. These 5th round picks ain't cutting it. Time to stop believing they can turn lemons into lemonade, because they have tried and they keep failing.

Scott started off looking like he deserved his draft spot, but after he blew out his knee, he never seemed to truly come all the way back. He seemed too heavy to play CB.
