James Harrison is everything Jones isn't.

Here was the linebacker the steelers thought they were drafting in the 1st round of the 2013 draft: Apparently that player was switched and was replaced with a 7th rounder....

    [h=3]2012 season[/h]In 12 games, Jones recorded 85 tackles, 24 tackles-for-loss, 14.5 sacks, 1 interception, 7 forced fumbles, and 2 fumbles recovered.

I did buy the pre-draft hype. He seemed like a crafty player with good instincts, a nose for the ball, and a knack for making plays. I was pretty sure he'd be able to overcome his physical and athletic limitations. Now I feel like a moron.

I'm afraid that he might be a perfect example of a player that maxes out in college.

I kind of liken him to moats. a good player to have, but not a guy you want to build the strength of your defense around.

I just want to chime in some of my opinion...keep in mind it's just that. I was for Jarvis and I defended him. Thing is, he does not have speed nor strength to keep up with the NFL. Our Division alone has great offensive lines.

We need a beast like Suggs or prime Hairyson. I'll take speed all day at the ILB. Shazier, let's see what you got.

I feel bad for Jarvis I really do, if he can bang some more weights and eat more calories to get bigger he might have potential to be a good compliment OLB. For #1 pick he will be a bust, it is what it is. IMO of course.

1 offseason Strength program while taking suggs/Harrison/ngata juice he will be fine.

If he takes the Ngata juice he will be on the field even less though. LOL.

What was most telling to me, was Lloyd`s comment about "Games are won Monday thru Friday"...

Referring to workout habits/ study habits, etc...

Sounded like Jarvis is lacking in that deprtment, but, has the physical tools...

    If this is true,

He may not turn out to be a "bust"...

Just has to "buckle down", and "maximize his potential"...

FRrom what I saw of him in college (limited)..

He seemed to have the physical tools...

Maybe he just needs to dedicate himself to making the millions?

I`d like to see him pan out for us, and I`m not gonna judge too harshly, on his first 2 yrs, but...

I have a feeling he could be SCARY good, IF he puts in the effort,

And that is what it sounded to me, like Greg was saying.

    GO STEELERS!

You have friends on the street that look like this? Remind me never to piss you off...:smiley1:. I think Shazier does pretty well in the gym. IMO he just needs experience and health. Jarvis could use some help though.... image.jpg

Compared to other football players he is small.

I'm thinking these two are apples and oranges. JJ, yes he needs the strength to match up with tackles. James Harrison is a perfect example. But Shazier's strong point is his speed and I don't want bulk to take that away. He's strong enough to tackle a WR or RB or blitz.

My friends this is not college ball, you better be able to shed blockers. You might be good against the Purdues and the Vanderbilt's& KY of the world but when you move up to pro's its different game altogether. Same as our OL they REALLY need to get into the weight room. Peasy put up 37 @225 when he was playing. can Shazier /JJ do this?

you OSU hater ward. :smiley1::lolol: shazier can use his speed to get to the ball before he gets blocked, that's where the speed part works for him and against blockers. that's how spence also plays at this level.

jj has some quickness in the short area, but seems to get caught down inside to often. that's more field awareness I think. Woodley used to do that too.

all they have to go on from these guys is their college days when we draft them, besides that you just don't know until they hit the field. speed was needed on this defense and they went for some really good speed in shazier. I think it will work out for him.

jj on the other hand can't just live on short area quickness at that position. I'm not sure he will ever dominate from that spot in the pros but I saw some improvement in his run defense in just positioning early in the year. he is still a work in progress. heyward becoming dominant should help free him up from blockers, and that may be the only saving grace.

Dallas championship team in the 90's was based on speed, worked out pretty well for them. Theres more than one way to win in the NFL.

Of course but you have to have some power somewhere. I don't believe a whole unit with speed can excel in todays game. Teams are more multiple now and Coaches are more cerebral and have Football IQ'S out the roof.

If you have a weak Team they will just go Power run and Power PA using multiple TE sets and the Big WR's.

Same goes for a power unit . If you go all power then a Team will just use quick stuff and spread u out and make you chase them.

This is the essence of the chess match that goes on now days with Teams trying to create mismatches .You can't create a huge one with your own roster.

They have size mixed in, Worilds, Tuitt, Heyward, Vince, McLendon. It's ok for your edge rushers to be speed guys.
