with Timmons shazier and spence and zumwalt, should we or could we consider vince Williams as an OLB? Vinnie looked like he put on some size this year. he played pretty well when he was on the field. could he be that option? I still worry about him in coverage, but would rushing the passer and playing the run fit his play so far? he plays with some mean and that could bode well off the edge. he's got decent speed, nothing great but I think plenty fast enough. doesn't he go 250 or better?

I like his desire, not sure he could handle the position.

Agreed he's played we'll his 2 years in the Burgh and I'd like to see him in the field. If he's got OLB talent, I'm sure the coaches will be looking into that.

I said the same thing going into last year knowing our OLB depth was weak. It wasn't met with much fanfare but I thought he had the body type similar to James and it could be something to explore.

well... I've never seen Vince show the kind of instant explosion needed to beat a tackle around the edge. I'm not saying he can't do it, but guys who have that explosion are usually spotted before their 3rd year in the NFL.

it seems like he came into this year with some muscle added. another year of weights and gaining some size like he has is what I'm considering elvis. maybe what he has had was not ready for that position but what he's grown into more so. I'm not sure what kind of speed he had before, but seemed to get to the ball carrier quickly enough. just fishing here anyway. it seems like a shame to keep some good talent on the bench.

:this!: Never seen him rush the edge, which is far and away what we need most at the position. It's possible, but I'd bet just about everything I have that he can't, or else he and we would have known by now.

With the other guys thought about it, but the way it's played in Pittsburgh, his skill set doesn't fit. Might not be able to beat the tackle on the edge, but he's got more than enough power for it. How he'd do controlling himself and holding the edge on the run plays is another story. He's a thumper and he likes to attack and hit people.

Vince is a run stopper, nothing more....nothing less. He fits his role very well and along with Spence probably provides us one of the better 3/4 backup ILB tandems in the league. Add in Garvin and Zumwalt and this team has some depth at the position. Now, if we can just get the OLB position figured out as well.

I love where we are headed with the Dline and I really like our ILBs, but if we don't generate a pass rush....we are going to continue to struggle in coverage no matter who we get in the secondary.
