This season it seems there is now a rash of "unreported injuries" that have plagued people - Mitchell and his groin injury, Manning and his "thigh bruise", Ike saying Cortez was injured significantly, and I am pretty sure Ben was not right at the end. Is this whining and making excuses for poor play or is it legitimate? If it is legitimate, why do coaches put a hobbled player out there? Is the back up that bad? Dealing with injuries I think is one of the keys to a successful season and playoff run, and if you are putting people on the field who are not at their best, and the backup who is not hurt is actually worse, then you have a personnel problem. This is similar to not having a backup plan in case Bell got hurt, which essentially kicked us out of the playoffs.

Teams aren't hiding this info. Heck, look at New England, they list half their roster. Better to make the opponent think you are beat up and easy to beat.

My guess is one of 2 things:

    1) Players are not reporting it because they don't want to be taken off the field. I would think there is some NFL violation here, but I have never seen it called.

    2) It's just a BS excuse to save your butt.

In Denver's case, the media talked ad nauseum about Manning's thigh bruise and the fact that he was sick during the San Diego game. Also, in Denvers case, to address your second question...........................Brock osweiler!

To be fair to Cortez, he didn't say anything, Ike did.

Understood. That wasn't directed at any one individual.

ESPN said Manning played the lst 4 weeks with a torn Quad and at no time did the team report this injury during the season, and still no fine, Im guessing the NFL is making allowences Since it is Manning ..

Certainly seems odd that nothing is happening. Do I remember the Jets got fined for not disclosing an injury to Favre?

I wonder if it's possible that the number of stars and starters with injuries would cause the NFL to force teams to sit so many players that viewership (and, subsequently, endorsement) would suffer due to the impact on fantasy leagues and fans that want to see the stars/starters play...

Given that I seem to think that the injury report was originally brought in to help gamblers, this seems to be something of an ironic reversal.

In the case of Mitchell and Manning, they never missed a game as far as I know. So, they were essentially the same as guys who have aches and pains but aren't also aren't listed on the injury report. If they weren't on the injury report but missed games, I can see where they'd get fined. But what actually happened seems like a grey area, even if it's an especially grey, grey area.

Right, he didn't miss a game and played practically every defensive snap available to him this season. This isn't even really a grey area to me because if a player isn't limited in practice, he doesn't need to be on the injury report. If he was struggling with a groin injury throughout the season, he must have been hiding it pretty well, or it wasn't bad enough to limit him. What kind of groin tear can you run with the way a safety needs to every Sunday is my question.

That is the crux of my questions - was Mitchell with a groin tear better than the next man up? Either Mitchell is really a beast, the backup is really bad, or the injury wasn't that bad.

He was presumably outplaying the rest in practice, even with the injury.

No kind of tear . Maybe he scratched one of his marbles to hard , but that's about it .Simply a way to try and keep people off his back for poor play . Trying to convince Colbert not to draft a Safety .

If you play then you can't use I was hurt for an excuse . If you know you can't do your job then you tell the boss before hand not after the work week is over .

Guys, I know I haven't been on my game this season. You've probably noticed that. The fact is, I've been participating on the message board with an infected hangnail most of the season. It got me off my game both physically and mentally. But I'll be back better than ever for the 2015 season! :)

Scouting report said he had durability concerns, and welp, here we are. He'll probably end up on IR for the entire 2015 season.

They need to man up and get rid of injury reports. Play ball and forget these so call fake injuries. Already we have a commissioner far more concerned about litigiation which dilutes real football. They have these concussion tests and stuff and clearly they dont mean crap because many times throughout the 2014 season it was clear players were concussed and yes Ben included.

The CBA is partly responsible for this candy coated crap we see on the field. It's time to get serious . OMG.. This is not football
