Jarvis Jones, chatty and friendly, has been one of the more accommodating players to the media in the Pittsburgh Steelers' locker room. But a question of whether the outside linebacker needs to get bigger during the offseason caused Jones to all but roll his eyes last week.

"If y'all want me to be bigger I'll be bigger," Jones, who is listed at 6-foot-2, 245 pounds, told reporters. "I just feel like you've got to be stronger and you've got to know the game. If you make plays and do the things you need to do, size doesn't really matter."

He's had two years to get bigger.

JJ, it really doesn't matter if you're 5'6" and a buck fifty six, just go out there and make plays. It's not about getting bigger physically, it's about coming up bigger on the playing field! Getting bigger and stronger may help with that. Just hang with James Harrison this off-season.

He's had one off-season (without college cutting into his winter training) to get bigger, plus a major setback with his wrist damage early in this season.
Hopefully this current off-season will give him a chance to get stronger.

maybe he will land some HGH? lol seriously 1 offseason isn't much to show a dramatic change naturally, especially if you aren't 18 anymore. Genetics play a big role too.

He's right....he doesn't need to get bigger....he need to be stronger, experience, and stay healthy and quickly. Then the splash plays will come.

From the article TTF posted above:

"Jones, the only Steelers outside linebacker signed beyond 2014, plans to work with Marcel Pastoor, the team's assistant strength coach, before returning to Atlanta to train with Kansas City Chiefs outside linebacker Justin Houston, who led the NFL with 22 sacks in 2014."

I found that part the most interesting.

For a visit? Houston is going to get close to Watt money. Jarvis Jones first and foremost needs to stay on the field. Then let the chips fall where they may. This is a big year for JJ to see if he can cut it.

I know it's just wishful thinking. I was just saying. That dude can get to the qb like nobody's business.

You didn't think he looked better in 2014 than 2013?

I can't give him any grade but "incomplete" for 2014. I thought he was playing quite a bit better early in the season, and then the injury bug bit. However the sample size from the early part of the season was too small to make a judgment. When he returned, he looked too weak for the position. Was it the injury, or was that the real JJ, and he just played out of his mind the first few weeks? I don't know.

I think the latter is extremely unlikely. Think about it. It's the beginning of his second year. Complicated scheme. He'd shown a flash or two in the season finale as a rookie. He worked on his body all offseason. It's natural and expected for him to play better, and he did. Then he got injured.

When he returned, there were a couple things. The first is the injury. According to James Harrison, Jarvis couldn't really use that hand. In addition to hurting his mechanics, I imagine it also took a toll on his strength, both in-game and working out throughout the season. There's also playing time. It was sporadic, because by the time he'd returned, Harrison was playing extremely well.

By the facts we know, and what seems logical, I think what we saw in the beginning of 2014 is the real Jarvis. I agree the sample size we saw was too small (I'm not going to extrapolate 2 sacks in 2.5 games to say he'd have racked up 12.5 sacks), but very promising. If he had looked the same as he did as a rookie, or like he did after his injury, then I'd be worried. But I think we'll get that Jarvis back next year, maybe even better.

I'm just disappointed that he didn't get the development we needed him to get this year. Ditto Shazier. They should be further along in 2015 than they will be in reality. Also, I think the biggest thing could be shifting him over to LOLB. I just feel like his game is better suited for RTs, the way Worilds' is.

Definitely hurt his strength. No way to get by a wrist injury. Pushing or pulling is touchy until you get the confidence back in it.

I agree that he is going to be a good player. A move to the other side should help him as well . Maybe he will come out and have a beast year. The new DC already stated we need more speed and athletic ability on the back end.

A new coach and they should load him up with new toys this will help JJ rush the passer .

Better or bigger and stronger? In either case ... no. Maybe he would have played better if he hadn't gotten hurt, but that's speculation. But if he was bigger and/or stronger, I failed to notice.

Not sure he'd be a better fit at ROLB. I would think the bigger RTs would eat him up.

He's pretty good in run support. It's his pass rush that needs work. And LTs are almost always better pass protectors, especially in our division. RTs are usually slower, too.

Jarvis should've came into 2014 bigger and stronger, he better produce next season or he's on his way to being a bust.
