There's more than 1 good DC in the league. It's not like Dick Lebeau is the only good DC out there. I do agree that Tomlin is clueless though and I think it's only a matter of time before he's gone too.

LeBeau is a scapegoat. Phrases like "the cushion" and "scheme is too complex" are this year's bubble screen, but a bad defense next season isn't a forgone conclusion. Don't expect the 2008 Steelers defense, but don't write them off yet either.

Yeah probably, although there's only 1 guy who felt the need to change his name from anything that mentioned Tomlin by name lol.

I think we will see exactly how good of a coach he is. This is the time for him to put his stamp on the entire team. He was here for the OC hire, and now the DC hire. I think the timer starts now.

That's a good point. This defence is now 100% on Tomlin. If the defence fails miserably, it's not on the new DC, it's on Tomlin. If the offence continues to be inconsistent, that's also on Tomlin. This team has now been built from the ground up by Tomlin, including all the assistant coaches. There's no more scape goats left on this team. It's time for him to get this team back to being a real contender, not this half asses, inconsistent BS we saw this year. Contending teams don't forget to show up when it matters the most

What if Butler is the DC? Which seems obvious.

We'll see. When we had a defense with Flowers, Poteat, Washington, Jones, Fiala etc. it seemed that a good defense was way down the road but things turned around rather quickly. I'll take a clueless coach with two Super Bowl trips and a win at 42 years old any day.

If He, Tomlin and the Rooney's set down and Butler says I want to run the same schemes we have been running, with these same players, then we have a problem. I hope Butler has his own plan and schemes in place and sells them on how he is gonna make the defense top ten, or they may move in a new direction.

That is bs. This team is still rebuilding especially on defense. To expect immediate returns is asinine.

Is it? Butler predates Tomlin and was, by many accounts, ensured the job by the Rooneys...

I dont know. Just show me some schemes and new wrinkles. There are some good players in place (Timmons, Heyward, Shazier, that fumble he caused in Rats game was a thing of beauty) and some that are adequate, serviceable and rising ( Blake, Spence, maybe Harrison, Tuitt). I dont care if we go all out blitz every time with bump and run, as long as it works. Play to your strengths, hide your weaknesses.

If that's the case, then the Rooney's don't have enough faith in Tomlin to make his own hire. That's a problem. If the head coach can't even pick his own assistants, then perhaps it's time for the owners to get a head coach that they have faith in.

One of them here. I love Lebeau but the D has been getting burned on big plays for a long time now.

A Bill Walsh quote on coaching vs. ownership comes to mind, but I can't quite remember the whole thing at the moment.

Didn't you know, Tomlin gets all the blame and none of the accolades.
