Should Dick Lebeau pass the baton?

I think they will eventually be good. the injuries and lack of practice and field time during the season really hurt young players. some guys do better with reps and some guys do it with film and just watching. I think these 3 need the reps and to get stronger overall for the NFL, which will come. there just isn't enough time during the season to work with guys as much as coaches would like with short weeks and travel time and game planning. you spend so much time working on healthy starters getting it week to week.

 

I understand and don't necessarily disagree. But there has to be a way to simplify our defense to allow our playmakers to use their natural playmaking abilities to make plays. I think Dom Capers (I think it was him)!did that with Kendrell Bell a few years ago with great success. I look at other young players like Carnell Lake, Rod Woodson, Thomas Everett, Chad Brown and others that seed to contribute early on in their careers because the system was designed to allow them to intuitively play the ball, read and react and make plays. Just my observation FWIW.

 

I understand that and we could simplify it to allow our young guys to do that, but wouldn't that also make it relatively easy on offenses to take advantage of this too? it also takes away what other more veteran players have achieved in this defense and limits the defense to plays that these young guys are comfortable in. that won't make our defense hard to game plan against throughout the year or even week to week.

 

Hey, mac, I've got a news flash for you. Opposing offenses already have us figured out.

 

Sadly it has looked relatively easy on a lot of qbs in the past few years. Pryor, Cassell, Tebow, Hoyer, Glennon, Vick, Tannenhill, all come to mind.

 

why have we been such a top defense for so many years until we have had to replace players? what's the difference jack? is it the scheme? or is it the change in players running that scheme?

 

It's probably a little of both. But it seems like everybody who made DL a defensive genius when his defense was loaded with Pro-Bowl caliber players are the very ones that want to blame the defensive failures over the last few seasons on the lack of quality players. You can't get the credit on one hand and fail to take the blame on the other.

 

I think what most people are frustrated with is the lack of adjustment to the new players. It's like he's running the same scheme when you had those pro bowlers when you should be adjusting to the players you have. Just my 2 cents.

I think JJ's failures are on him. He's weak and slow. Bad combo for an OLB.

This is not Dick's fault, this would come under player evaluation KC/MT. Shazier and JJ need to do lots of work in the off season to improve themselves. JJ especially because he does not have the God given ability that Shazier has. Lets see this off season how much work both put in?
JJ you better hear this out or your ass will be going down the street.

 

Sometimes the talent just isn't there. Neither Dave Brazil nor Dom Capers could get anything out of Huey Richardson. It's looking like the same kinda thing now.

 

I really believe the arrow is pointing up for Shazier but I'm really concerned about JJ. People keep talking about how he was coming around and showing flashes before the injury but I'm sorry, I just didn't see it. Maybe others are better talent evaluators than me but I saw a guy continue to get manhandled one on one when he bull rushed and driven by the pocket about every time he tried a speed rush or other technique. The guy has sacked the QB THREE TIMES AND HE'S BEEN ON THE FIELD FOR 888 SNAPS according to Pro Football Focus who measures such things (too much time on their hands, lol). JJ's third year is going to be HUGE!

 

not to dispute that but that snap count sound high to me. how many games did he play this year? how about last year? if they play a full game don't our full time guys average about 60 snaps a game? that's guys that don't leave the field. is this also special teams play?
