Sounds like they learned their lesson from BA from a few years ago and called it what it is instead of him "retiring."

Don't need another Arians retirement fiasco. "Mutually agree"..... They told him not to let the door hit him.

Rumors earlier in the week about the FO asking him to accept a more consultant role and not be a coordinator

It makes me sad DL has been such a pleasure to have with us all these years. Thanks for all the great years dick. Best wishes.

He had a great career but i think its time. Maybe some new blood. I just hope players act like grown ups and not pout

In all honesty, this a good thing and I like it. Keith Butler has been waiting long enough. He's not going to wait forever. Nice way to transition.

Just got the notice on my phone saying he is resigning not retiring? Does this mean they are forcing him out?

Whoa now.... This is a Tomlin run team.... No guarantees butler is the next choice.

I think this may well be what he means by 'resigning this role, not retiring'.

I can't see him going anywhere else.

Anyways, if this is all confirmed (I'll wait for the main Steelers site for this), then I'm not sure what kind of tribute could do justice to this man's work and legacy here.

Not gonna lie. I knew this was coming, at some point, but still it's the end of an era and even though we've not been good in the past few years it is still gonna be weird to not have DL on the sidelines. I really hope he doesn't go somewhere else. I like to think of him as "ours". Thanks for everything Coach Lebeau!

Yes, maybe its time. You have to be willing to take some chances on defense in todays NFL. The way he calls the defense is too safe to be effective if the team doesn't beat itself.

Well, change is in the air. LeBeau was great. Loved what he did here. I Will miss him but embracing the possible opportunity.

If not Butler, I will trade my favorite kidney to get Dan Quinn from Seattle.

Eh, Lebeau deserved better than this... but I guess no one in the NFL really goes out on their own terms.

I'm curious what was said, cause its not like he forgot how to coach, and Steelers just don't have the talent right now. What was it they they told him he was doing wrong?

I am hoping it is something like this.
Let Butler (or whoever takes over) worry about the game calls.
Let LeBeau have a reduced workload, coach the players in practice, and act like a think-tank for the DC.

While I think it's the right move, it's still a sad day. Thanks, DL, for all you've done for this great organization. Your contribution will NEVER be forgotten.

IF DL is gonna stay on in some consultant role or whatever do you think that all but confirms the fact that Butler is taking over the d? That way DL can help bring in guys that are gonna be able to run the scheme?

Thanks for the championships, Coach! It'll be very interesting to see where he lands, and if the next man up truly is Butler.

Who foresees a 4-3 next year? We know Tomlin wants it so it will be interesting to see what happens. I've always felt like Butler would only get the job based on whether he would install a 4-3. I only base that on Tomlin's preference of that scheme but still.
