I agree with, Blast, I think this may not be true. I haven't seen anything on it.

    Is there a link?

Yeah, possibly, it's hard to say. Our first few plays we looked really good, especially Tate. We seemed to have a good thing going, then Tate fumbled and he seemed to get yanked. Who benched him? Haley or Tomlin? How much did that affect the game? Ben played terribly too, that's simply not on the coaches. Ben just refused to let the ball fly, he was holding it too long and waiting for guys to be wide open instead of hitting them in stride. He also wasn't adjusting the protection when he needed to and he didn't seem to notice when a guy was going to be coming unblocked. The Oline played terribly. Haley seemed to call lots of plays that utilized the RB's as well as other quick hitters, which helps slow the pass rush down. Again though, Ben wasn't making the throws. He was pump faking and scrambling rather than letting the ball fly. A few times he went deep when he shouldn't have. Yes, the play was called by Haley, but if the play isn't there to be made, go to your 2nd, 3rd or even 4th option, or just throw it away. Don't launch it into double coverage just because the route is being run.

I think the loss is much more on Ben than anyone else. That doesn't mean the playcalling was great, but again, we need to look at the whole picture. If Tate was in there all game, would the offence have looked any different? If Ben had trusted his WR's to make plays and had let the ball fly much more than he did, would the offence have looked better?

Ben didn't have any time to go to his 2nd and 3rd reads, he barely had time to look at his 1st read.

    Ben sucked
    Haley sucked
    DL sucked
    Tomlin sucked
    line sucked
    DB's sucked
    Tate sucked

Basically everybody sucked. This loss doesn't get pinned on any one person. The closest to one person being blamed for the loss would be Bell because he couldn't play.

Ben was playing okay until the 4th quarter where things got out of hand. The 1st interception, Ben was a little off, but really that was just an unbelievable play by Suggs (hats off to him for that). I thought the game plan should have called for more slants and quick hits - this to me should have been the game where Wheaton or Lance Moore could have played dividends.

The thing you have to remember is the Rats were generating pressure with 4 and dropping 7 most of the game - they did a game plan similar to what the Jets did earlier this season. The Steelers missed Bell A LOT in that game not from a running standpoint but more from a passing standpoint. Bell likely can make a few catches in that game and with his speed and shiftiness get away for some first downs and maybe even a few big plays. Ben didn't play great, he missed a some throws, but it isn't like he was awful. At halftime he was something like 18-24 for 180 yards. The TD miss to Brown where he was knocked out of bounds was more on Brown than Ben as all Brown had to do was catch it - he didn't need to jump.

My criticism of Ben in that game is more as a result of the throws he didn't make than the ones he did. His accuracy wasn't a big problem, but the decision making was. Not recognizing who was coming was a big issue for him. There were a few times he needed to change the play or at least the protection and he didn't. I specifically remember one play when it was obvious there was going to be an unblocked rusher coming, yet Ben did nothing to put a blocker on him. There simply wasn't enough lineman to cover him. That play resulted in a very quick dump off to Heath and then a 4th down punt. If Ben put a blocker back there to help, then perhaps he would have had time to find someone past the 1st down marker. Other similar things happened throughout the game. Plus Ben wasn't letting the ball fly as much as he should have. He didn't trust his guys to make a play on the ball and he didn't put it where only they could get it. He was very hesitant that game. I'm fine with most of the throws he made, it was moreso not throwing when it seemed like he could have had a guy open but waiting too long, or not changing the play/protection to slow the rush

See your point on Ben maybe missing the communication on where the rush was coming. Ben often is hesitant - but some of that hesitation may have come from the max coverage issues that Ravens were using.

Oh I have no doubt, but there's not always going to be a guy open, sometimes you have to throw them open. Ben needed to give our guys a chance to make a play on the ball. That's one thing Flacco is good at, he'll just throw it up and let his guy fight for it. Sometimes you have to let the WR's make plays instead of doing it all yourself.

I think butchered might be a tad strong, but I agree, the gameplan was botched.

To clarify my earlier statement. Haley's not an elite OC, he's not great, but he can have a great game. All in all, I'd say he's a pretty good OC, though.
