Our D line looks good going north. Need OLB, corners and safeties. Offensive numbers are nice but I miss the nasty defense more! Oh yea, you can't play physical anymore. Nevermind. NFL sucks, go penguins.

You can. But you have to be smarter about it. The Seahawks play very aggressively and don't seem to have a problem drawing flags.

I think the young guys on our D-line have a ton of potential. Could we use another horse there? Sure! But we're getting better there either way.

Timmons is a beast. Aside from that, our LB corps is well below par for this franchise. Woriilds is likely gone. Jarvis Jones better make it happen on day one next season going forward, or the B label will be not undeserved. I do see some good coming out of Sean Spence and give credit to the coaches for showing immense patience with him. (And even more credit to Spence for working his butt off to get back into the fray).

That leaves a nice problem to have. Shazier. Yes, he was underwhelming this year. But he gets a pass. Rookie season, injured half the year. And let's not forget that Timmons also struggled early in his career. But with Spence on the rise, where does that leave Shazier?

Just spit balling here. (I don't expect it to happen. More of a "what if?")

If Troy is done. Hell, even if he isn't... Why not convert Shazier to SS? He's a naturally gifted playmaker. Has the speed and agility to play in the secondary. And would be a holy terror back there. Carnell Lake was a converted LB himself, so who better to teach him? And this gives us back that x factor playmaker we're losing with Troy's decline.

Ditch Mitch. He's garbage. We have a lot of money invested in Cortez Allen. Might he work better at FS? Maybe he's just ill equipped to be on the island. He clearly has skill. Put him in a spot where he can shine.

Then FA/Draft we have 2 absolute must have priorities: Pass rushing LB, and CB. One can come via FA (or both) and the draft needs to be defense, defense, defense. With the exception after the first round if the right TE falls to us (We need to find Heath's heir now. Not later)

I agree with everything. Especially with shazier at SS. I want to see shamarko too.

Timmons doesn't get a pass on his coverage skills. Also, he looks like he's starting to lose some speed & quickness.

I agree. I was happy to see him get voted All Pro, but to me he's a pretty 1 dimensional run stopping type of ILB. He is respectable in zone coverage, but if you ask him to man up on a TE he is out of his element in a big way.

And travels well. Lots of work needs done
on the defensive side of the ball. Lets hope we find
    the parts.

The strength of this defense used to be those LB's that would and could do it all. I remember Kirkland doing a better job of dropping into coverage than some of these guys on the roster now and he was 300 pounds!

great summary! Shazier to SS makes a lot of sense if our other ILB's can handle their jobs!

Looking at size and stature, Williams might be the better ILB to move to OLB. He's about the same build as Harrison, just a couple inches taller (6'1" / 250). Plus he has a nose for the run anyway.
