Who cares if bens elite or not its tiresome. I think he is that's the only opinion that matters to me. Romo looked awful but his qb rating is misleading but people will flock him into elite just because

The NFL is all about what have you done for me lately in the past three years we've been one and done in the playoffs that's unacceptable and we lost the teams that were beneath us the ravens are going to get blown out next week

I hate Flacco just like the rest of you in the regular season he is nothing more than a below-average quarterback
but he has a 10 game winning streak in the playoffs and he's even doing something ben hasnt done beat the patriots on the road

Romo is not elite either. Like Ben, he's a top flite, franchise quarterback. There are 4 elite quarterbacks in the NFL: Manning, Brady, Rodgers, Brees. Ben is at the top of the next tier with, Luck, Wilson, Romo, Rivers, Flacco, E. Manning, Stafford all coming in under him. QBs like Kaepernick, Alex Smith, Cutler, Dalton, Newton, Palmer and a few others would land in the next grouping.

I really think Ben can take the next step and possibly qualify as elite, but unfortunately in big situations the last few years Ben has come up short. In fact, he's looked downright bad in some situations and has made some really bad decisions, i.e. taking ridiculous sacks, not throwing the ball away, throwing into double coverage which has led to some bad interceptions at crucial times. Until he remedies some of this, he won't crack the elite club.

Having said that, we need to extend Ben but I hope we can do it in such a cap friendly way that we'll be able to sign and retain important pieces around him. We'll see how it plays out.

BB is a great franchise QB that has elite games. I find it odd that people use statements like "an elite QB puts the game on his shoulders and wins" but then throw Brees in the elite group. Brees certainly did not do that this season.

Yep, Brady was really thriving in this game...

and the irony is that he was better in this game than the thriving elite Flacco.

    1) Someone, anyone, define "Elite" just so we are all on the same page.

    2) Are we talking "Elite" for one game, because we seem to have this discussion fairly often? A season? A career? If it's for a carrier, let's bring this back up in another 5 years +/-.

I'll take a shot at your definition. This is what I think the criteria for "elite" should be.

1.) Stats and not just stats - but stats over a long period of time. This to me means Luck isn't elite, he has been playing just 2 years - my guess is he will be elite, but he isn't yet. By the way - this is a check for Ben, the guy is already top 10 in QBR and he will be in the top 10 in yards in TD passes in a few years. The guy has only had two sub 90 QBR seasons and they were both seasons where he played a significant amount of time being hurt. Also this is also why Flacco isn't elite - Flacco has now been a qb for 8 years I think and he has two seasons with an over 90 QBR, he really is not capable of being the focal point of the offense, bottom line with the Ravens for the most part is if they can't run, they can't win.

2.) You Win - You have to be a winner again over a period of time, multiple playoff appearances - This to me again is why Romo isn't elite (#3 will be as well when I get there). Romo has had some nice seasons and he is a very competent QB, but the guy just has not won enough...maybe these next 3-5 years will be where he takes a step in that direction. And it isn't like he hasn't had talent around him before, he has and he has squandered it. Again Ben gets a check here as witnessed by being the 3rd or 4th fastest to 100 wins.

3.) You have to be clutch...to some extent i.e. you just "got it" - this is probably the hardest to define but to me it is a combination of how you perform on 3rd down, how you perform in the 4th quarter (late game winning drives), and how you perform in the playoffs. This is why I think Rivers isn't elite - he checks out fairly well on the first two, but Rivers has not been the same swash buckling QB late in games and he has a sub standard playoff resume....ditto for Romo too. Ben gets a check here as well.....BUT....I will say that the magic Ben used to have does seem to be waning or not what is used to be.

So there is my criteria - let me know if I should pass it up the chain to the NFL so they can pass out this definition for elite.

Ben had game winning drives or excellent 4th quarters in three games this year. (First game against CLE, TEN, and then second CIN game).

I can't say Flacco is elite. He only throws rainbow deep balls, how teams don't realize this is beyond me. The second you get pressure on Flacco he gets rattled and completely falls apart. The Ravens offense only thrives when it gets PI calls, which it gets a lot. We started to get minimal pressure then we got hit with bogus PI penalties and our defense got deflated. From there is was all downhill.

Big Ben doesn't have that "it" factor anymore. Like you know he will come back and win the game. 2009 was his last year of having it. Ben forces too much when they have figured him out. He can be elite at times, terrible in others. Put it together and he's above average. I would rank rodgers brady romo manning brees then ben. I love him though, he takes all the blame when clearly the plays and O line sucked.

But can we go to more with him ? That is a real question that must be answered. How many good years does Ben have left ? Ben admits he played bad this last game which is stand up because he did.

I don't want to get into the elite non elite stuff to me it's like a unicorn , but the OP makes a solid statement . Maybe Ben has lost that playoff magic ? If he has now might be the time to move on from him .

Please, don't use Romo and elite in the same sentence. That's just embarrassing.

And go where? To Who? He is a Franchise QB with 2 rings. Fix the broken Defense... He will be signed without a doubt. Just for how long will be the question.
