Just a horible call against the Niners on Moody hitting Russel Wison on a crucial 3rd down. Next play TD.

This league is getting ridiculous. Total clean hit and yet is costs a TD.

Makes ya wonder if the league is fixed.

I'm thinking that roughing was called because, if you notice, the force of the wonderful and legal hit on Ryan's chest made his head instantly snap backwards, giving the illusion in real time that contact had been made with his helmet or face mask - super slo-mo showed that wasn't the case but it's not a reviewable play. Velcro flags on the QB would eliminate all this nonsense (but then BB would be sacked nearly on every pass play.)

I think you're right. A little high on the hit but not penalty-high. The head snap and laying there like he was shot sold it. With the way they are consistently inconsistent and not inclined to give us the benefit of the doubt, I'm not happy with but not surprised by the call.

My opinion, if you're gonna get called for it. Might as well get your money's worth and lay the QB the f%$@ out, and send him out on a cart.
I feel the same way about the shots on WR. If I'm a safety and being flagged and fined for marginal contact, I'm going to make sure it's worth the FedEx delivery.

I think that Roethlisberger took a similar hit from Courtney Upshaw earlier this year. It too was flagged. Maybe the only difference was that Upshaw "launched" into Ben. But even during that game, I thought the call against Upshaw was bad.

Yea this crap is the Liars doing. They won't make it reviewable but I would like to see the ability to challenge the call. The Wourlds clean sack led to a TD. Same thing happened as was mentioned in the Seattle/ SF game. Like said, this garbage is going to cost a team a win somewhere then the next day the Liar will call the team from his underground bunker and say, we reviewed the tape and wow, Ray Rice really did punch her out! Oh wait, never mind, were sorry, it was a clean hit on the QB

    I`m with ya, Gibson!!!

Maybe the reason LeBaeau doesn`t blitz the qb anymore, is because he`s afraid of drawing flags?!?!

    What a crock of...:bscow:...

And why didn`t they put Matt Ryan thru the "concussion protocol", whn his head clearly bounced off the turf???

That was wrong, on a whole lotta levels, and if we hadn`t won the game anyhow, I would be VERY, VERY pissed about that call...

    Oh wAit, that`s right...
    I STILL AM!!!!:mad::rant::rules::write::butcher:...

Upshaw launched and used the crown of his helmet. I liked the hit, and think those should be legal still. In terms of rules it was illegal to the letter of the NFL law.

I thought it was interesting there was no concussion protocol. He clearly had his bell rung. NFL should be calling coach Smith and his staff about that, I'm sure.

Couldn't watch the game so I didn't see the hit. Searched high and low for a replay but can't find one.

Anybody got a link to this hit?

Kinda reminds me of Coach Tomlin using one of Ryan Clark`s hits, to illustrate the "Proper Way"
To hit a reciever, the following Monday, then Ryan got fined for the hit on Tuesday!

    Thanks for the video.

Terrible call. It won't be long until they apply the Pro Bowl QB protection rules during regular games.

On NFL channel, NFL head of officials just said that should not have been a penalty. It was a clean hit.

The difference with Worilds may have been leading with the crown of the head.

I think this was the issue, from the ref's perspective in real time. It looked from at least one angle like he was leading with the crown, and then the QB also reacted like he had been speared.

The problem, as often, is with the over-technicalising of the rule, which leads to calls like this.

And yes, over-technicalising is now a word.

I was just going to say that. Our call was ridiculous but at least it didn't affect the outcome of the game. Something has to be done about this.

Sure could have affected the outcome of the game.

They scored 3 plays later, from gret fiekld position, after an automatic first down, instead of us knocking them back almost 10 yards, and the loss of that down..

    BIG difference.

If Willie Gay didn`t get us 6 or 7 points on his pick earlier, we would have been going to OT, or losing..

To me, that was a HUGE screw up!!!
