I have a wild prediction. Ryan Shazier does not see many more snaps at LB this year and certainly not next year. I think they like the play of Spence and Williams there. I Think they may move him the SS just like Lake did under Noll. At 4.2 speed it might work. I have no proof of this. Just a thought. Discuss.

With Worilds probably leaving I HIGHLY doubt this and honestly hope not because I don't think Williams OR Spence are the answers we are looking for at LB. Just my two cents.

I don't think they drafted Shazier at 15 to become a Safety project. Really the only reason he hasn't been playing is because he got injured. That may have been the reason why they stuck with Williams/Spence for the Cincy game, but they are going to utilize the athlete that Shazier is at the LB position. Williams and Spence are okay back ups, but I'm not very confident in either of them to become a caliber of LB'er that keeps an athlete like Shazier off the field when the kid is healthy.

At this point I would put mitchell at backup qb and Hoyer at safety.

This kind of out the box thinking will be needed
going forward to rebuild this defense.I do not see this scenario playing out, but we must find a way to get better football players on the defensive side of the field. We are seriously lacking in defensive secondary talent.

Brilliant. I can't fault this idea.

One of the reasons we got a guy like Shazier was to help with coverage - particularly the receiving TEs like Gronk and Graham. But then, we seem to be using CBs to cover them when we come up against them - perhaps because of Shazier's absence? Perhaps because he got torched a few times? Who knows.

I think we have the athletes for positin flexibility here, and if we could have it so that DEs can drop into coverage, LBs can drop into S positions, Safeties can come up to the line, etc. then this would awesome. But this would also involve a huge amount of work with a unit that's struggling to execute as it is...

(Heh, as I was typing this I started to think of the Madden '03 game, where you could line up your LBs as CBs (and vice versa). The LBs would jam the receivers by basically tackling them, allowing the CBS to run through and sack the QB. It was an almost unbeatable strategy!)

    Well at 6'1" and 235 he'd be a monster safety.....by Steeler standards.

But didn't he play SS before and failed miserably?

Well....I guess you can say he plays FS and has failed miserably there too, huh?

Nice article on NFL. COM on the Legion of Boom . Sherman has not allowed 1 pass completion in 3 weeks. Earl Thomas and Cam Chancellor have had a lot to do with that ..

Imagine the Steelers record this year if we had a group like that back there ? Probably undefeated or real close.

Note to Colbert follow the Legion of Boom strategy , a Ball Hawk at FS a punisher at SS and a lock down CB .....

I would put Mitchell, Troy and Ike on the bus. It's bad when everyone on this board is glad Blake replaced Ike last week. I would play Blake at Ikes spot then Joe Sh*t the Ragman at Troy's spot and Dick, from Dick and Jane 1st grade books in Mitchells spot. You guys under 60 may not remember Dick and Jane

Not sure what to do with our LB's. Vince Williams brings an attitude to the defense, which I like. Spence seems okay, but seems limited due to his past injuries.

I think they drafted Shazier for pass coverage, this is a new NFL. Running the ball has gone by the wayside. He doesn't need to be a safety to to help out in the pass game.

I do have concerns over Shaziers ability to stay healthy playing the run in the middle of the field. To be honest if he added some serious muscle to set the edge I could see him being a pass rush OLB.

I'm looking forward to zumwalt and hojo next year. moats and JJ along with these two could be a welcomed breath of fresh air. if that's what we have for butler to work with, then they will have to play. I sure haven't seen many signs that garvin was worth keeping over anyone else, so we dump a couple and move on.

Timmons, spence, Williams, shazier, JJ, zumwalt, moats, hojo. we have time invested in these guys so lets move forward and see what we can do with this group. I think there is plenty of talent there. the price is right too.
