I think the majority doesn't remember Cliff Stoudt, Buddy Brister, Kent Graham, Jim Miller, Tommy Maddox (he was good for one year), Tee Martin, Kordell Stewart

Does anyone really think Ben doesn't put the time in the film room? Common now.

And to compare him to the 2 statues makes me laugh. Both of them can't do what Ben does.
Just some history for all you comparison folks, no dominate Defense, no Vinatieri, no 3 SB's for Brady.
And the regular season wonder Manning had a dominate Defense and monster running game. Plus playing against Rex Grossman. The last I checked, the pizza boy has 1 win, 2 loses. And his last loss he was embarrassing. I loved it.

Does Ben make me scratch my head at times? Sure. His game is unconventional. But i'm sure you all were loving the Benster when the trophys started coming right?! He didn't have his best game against the Packers, but let's be real, it was the beginning of a severe issue we see today, the Defense heading South, and the corners being exposed ie: Ike "Toast" Taylor.

Let's let Ben go, and watch the crying. I would sign him to a 4 or 5 year deal. He IS a franchise QB.

Do I have to do the name parade after Bradshaw to Ben? I didn't think so...

Brian Urlacher was just quoted on Mike and Mike this morning that the only film he watched was what was required by coaches.... he NEVER put in extra film time because he hated watching film. It wouldn't shock me to hear the same from a lot of other players, including Ben. Don't think anyone is really saying Ben doesn't watch film..... just that he probably doesn't go above and beyond what's asked of him. We've all seen Ben play, and there's no doubt that he's one of the greatest improvising QB's to ever play, but he will never be considered a decisive passer like Manning or Brady, in my opinion. Good, bad or otherwise.

I would be very sad to see him let go, because I do remember the days with every single QB since Terry Bradshaw..... and don't want to revisit those 80's, 90's and early 2000's QB's

And I'm sure that somewhat impacted his performance Sunday. But I have seen that kind of performance out of Ben in the past when he's seemingly been healthy. He's inconsistent at times and I think that's the biggest thing keeping him out of elite land with Brady, Manning, Rodgers and Brees who are the only truly elite QBs in the league IMHO.

I'm not going to get into the elite thing, he doesn't have to be better than those guys to be considered elite.

Sundays game wasn't Bens normal off the mark game, I don't recall that kind of game from him except for the 49ers game few years back.

4 is definitely a stretch. Ben has had 10 yrs of beating, thank god he is big or he may be done already. The line has been weak during his time. I'd say two years tops. Within that time they better be grooming someone else. He has never had any devastating injuries(at least on the field), but has accumulated a ton of minor injuries. They collectively have taken some toll.

You don't think Ben was "off the mark" in games against Jax, TB, NY and Cleveland this year? He's like the rest of the team, maddeningly inconsistent!

The thing i don't like is when Ben get's an injury and you plainly see it's effecting his game and no one on the sideline will pull him, how many times have we seen that over the years. Everyone knows Ben won't come out on his own even for a few plays. Never understood putting the game in jeopardy when we have a healthy backup ready to go. I still say Grad would have contributed enough to pull that win last week especially the mid quarters.

So 4 bad games and 1 worse than bad game doesn't make Ben not elite. We have played 12 games this year and our elite QB hasn't shown up in 5 of them ( 40% ), I know you defend Ben a lot and you deserve credit for standing up for your opinion but IMO he is not an elite QB, never has been and never will be. He is far too inconsistent and with the number of games he doesn't show up for he becomes a very good QB that has games that indicate he has the talent to be elite. He just can't preform at the elite level for very long. I like Ben and think we should keep him another year or two. But until he can play at an elite level for more than 40% of the games he plays I can't buy into calling him elite.

    His 5 losses:

    22/37 217 yards 0 TD's 1 Int
    29/40 314 yards 3 TD's 0 Int
    21/42 228 yards 1 TD 1 Int
    30/43 343 yards 1 TD 2 Int
    32/58 435 yards 2 TD 2 Int

I'll give him a pass for the Saints game since he was hurt although I didn't realize his numbers were that good, I didn't see the end of the game but I understand some of that came during garbage time.

So really only 2 bad games. The elite conversation will never be settled but BobbyB has shredded the inconsistent claim time and again with data to back it up.

    He's elite IMO.

Didn't he just break the bank on Palmer, $20 million guaranteed? And then what? Not even 4 quarters later, smh

If anything, I'd give him a pass for the TB game 3tds vs 0 INT. The game is 60 minutes long, he had a terrible first 3 quarters against the Saints.

You can't always look at stats but these stats aren't that good. I think you have to watch the game to determine whether or not quarterback play was effective. In my opinion, Ben was ineffective in most of our losses this year. He missed open receivers, took unnecessary sacks, didn't protect the football and was just overall not on his game and didn't run the offense as efficiently as he could have. The offense just looked out of sync in those games. Don't misunderstand me, I like Ben and think we're fortunate to have him. He's a top flite, franchise quarterback, but he hasn't risen to elite status in my mind.

This stuff about garbage time stats is complete garbage. I guess garbage time stats only applies to Ben. I seen a lot of games this year where Qbs put up garbage stats on either side winning or losing. Brees is the #1 qb with garbage stats. Rogers threw 6 td's against the Bears pouring it on, did anyone see that game? I could've thrown for at least 4. Manning and Brady haha, heck these guys are up by 40 and still throwing it all over the place.

Ben is an inch away from being elite, so I'm sure he will reach elite status within the next 6 years.

I agree, I was only counting the two 200 yard games as bad. 3 TDs and over 300 yards is a good game.

That is your opinion and mine is that he is not elite, never has been and never will be. He is just too inconsistent. We will just have to agree to disagree, Bobby B is from Canonsburg so his stats aren't going to impress me much lol. I look at the games not just the stats. Watching the five games I noted certainly makes my opinion stronger to me that Ben's just not elite. The question of if he is elite or not won't be solved by you or me or anyone else on this board and in reality what is the difference if he is elite or not. It just isn't that important in the overall scope of things.

Ben R is one tough hombre, good cold weather QB. I do not believe he has 4 good years left, Just too many hits. Everybody says franchise him for 2 years, Well I believe you will have a malcontent if you do this. I hope the Steelers and Ben can work something out mutually for the benefit of both parties. It may get ugly.We have to get better football players in here before we can be taken seriously. Our track record in evaluating talent is a little shaky at best.

So, I think the "elite" argument comes down to how one defines"elite." If your definition of elite is a guy who is one of the top 2 or 3 players at his position every season, and is a perennial pro bowler (like Troy P in his younger days), then Ben probably shouldn't be considered an elite QB. However, he has always been comfortably within the top 10 QBs in the league, and arguably top 5. Whether or not that's elite, I think it's clearly very, very good, and his value to the franchise is huge. I don't want to start the rebuilding process around a new QB one day sooner than we have to. With Ben at the helm, we can be a relevant contender with a few new players in key positions and an updated approach on defense that recognizes that under the new CBA we no longer have the luxury of a scheme that takes 2-3 years to learn.
