Just do the right thing and retire after the season, and take all those old washed up players like Ike, Troy, Kiesel, and Harrison. Also get rid of Carnell Lake the secondary is the worst played position on the team, some of it is due to lack of talent but there's no development at the position either. Give Keith Butler his chance to see if he has some fresh ideas. The league has figured out Lebeau's outdated scheme.

I don't think lebeau is the main problem, the lack of player performance is the driver to me. Troy and Ike need to be gone and I don't disagree with lake being gone either. Harrison and kiesel though are some of the few bright spots on the defense and the injury to kiesel means that despot that, he'll still be gone next year.

kiesel and harrison are the ones that got us to 7 win without them we would be 5-7 at best .. now i agree that lebeau time is ended and kiesel and harrison probably too , but right now they were the best we could put on the field on defense

I don't think Dick has to go. We all cut down BA when he was here so now he is in AZ. with a good record and I believe his youngest coach is 62. I think Dick needs to put his foot down on some of these guys and if they do not produce bench them for a game.

That's the problem he's not gonna do it...he is too busy being "Dad" he has his guys and he's gonna stick with them til he's gone no matter how poorly they play. They totally threw Tez under the bus when he struggled but Ike can get abused and then act like a jackass and there is no accountability. I think the entire coaching staff does a terrible job with accountability for certain guys and I don't think that it is a positive environment to play in. Belicheat benched a guy who just ran for 200yds because he was late to practice. We would probably pay for a wake up service and a driver.

    LeBeau`s record speaks for itself...

As much as it drives me crazy, that we play too far off the recievers at the line of scrimmage...

When the Players do their job, and make the tackles, the system works.

Missed tackles, have been a recurring theme, that lead to long runs, and big pass plays.

When our defense is played right, it works.

    LeBeau is NOT the problem.

I do hate to say it, but i think Troy`s time has finally come...

He`s neve been a textbook tackler, but he`s been missing the knockouts more and more often, and he doesn`t have the speed he used to, to make up for mistakes, when he guesses where the ball is going.

Dick may be accountable, for still giving him more freedom than he deserves right now, but that`s about as far as I will go in criticizing our D.C.

And I think having Lake as a D-backs coach will still pay off in the long run.
    Just my humble opinion.

    GO STEELERS!

Good post. I'll add that getting rid of Lake is crazy. Look what he gets out of Gay, McCain and Blake. Gay, is a completely different player under Lake, but you know, fire every coach, why not, I'm sure there is a magical one out there that turns everything to gold.

I'd like to see a lot more out of keith butlers lb'ers before I would anoint him head of anything. I'm not to sure I want him running the defensive show. he's one of the worst at getting guys on the field early. for all the 1's, 2's and 3's he's had as draft picks, they have been an under preforming bunch for several years. that doesn't bode well in my thinking of a new DC. I've been wrong before though.

I think he played here for a season with Lake, played very well, left for Arizona (think his play dropped off, not certain) came back here and has been a strong point of the secondary.

The biggest problem I have with Lebeau is the misuse of the players and his conservative nature these days. We are blitzing 34% of the time on 3rd downs. In the heyday of this defence we were blitzing 55% or more on 3rd downs.

Harrison and Worilds are dropped into coverage far too often rather than rushing the passer, which is what they're most effective at. Harrison cannot cover. He's old and slow. He needs to be rushing the passer.

GB, another zone blitz team leads the league in turnovers, so clearly the system is still effective in todays NFL, but the way it's being run is piss poor.

I don't know where to find this stat or I would go get it, but I'd like to see how often Clay Matthews rushes the passer and drops into coverage vs Harrison and Worilds. I have a feeling he rushes the passer a lot more than Harrison gets to.

Lebeau has become far too conservative these days and it's killing us on defence. We've been bad on defence now since 2009. 2010 was better than 2009, but still not great. We had good stats in 2011, but anyone who remembers that year knows we were terrible. We played a bunch of garbage QB's.

Something has to change. Our defensive problems are nothing new and they're not getting better

So true. I'm so tired of seeing Ike act like Richard Sherman despite getting whipped all game long. It's ridiculous that Ike gets a pass no matter how poorly he plays. Tomlin simply doesn't hold some guys accountable while he declares war on other guys. Makes no sense.

Time for DL to go elsewhere. He was very good with his defenses for a long time. That time has past and he doesn't seem to know how to correct it to make it work in todays game. He can certainly take Lake with him. Lake has not done anything to help the defensive backfield at all. If anything it is worse now than before he got here. I also am not sold on Butler. I think we need some fresh aggressive defense minded people.
As far as Gay goes he makes an occasional good play every once in a while. He sucks pretty bad the rest of the time. The good plays he makes don't come close to making up for his bad plays.
During the game against the Saints they kept showing Gay and Taylor sitting together on the bench, looked like dumb and dumber to me.

Do you think the reason that drafted defensive players are not developing fast enough or sometimes not at all is because DL and the rest of the coaching staff are favoring veterans too much, giving them too much playing time and holding onto to them too long? Is this whole thing about DL's system taking a long time to understand possibly just that DL doesn't like to bench veterans?

Better post. You are 100% right something has to change and it doesn't look like he is ready, willing or able. The personell he once had to build what was a great defense for the most part is gone there are a few still around but now with Kiesel hurt only one that is effective (Harrison). The D was effective when we had the parts, but guess what we don't anymore. So what are we to do keep giving him a pass even though he seems unwilling to adjust until we reload our entire D with 3-4 studs like we used to have. There are other DCs out there doing more with less....he continues to roll with schemes that obviously aren't effective ,as been said by many opposing players and coaches. The cushions are a joke they are outdated and have no part in today's pass happy NFL. They used to work when teams were run first option, keep everything in front, stop the run and wait for 3rd and long and tackle the pass shy of a first down. Now it's just a easy pitch and catch on any down...why would you have to run at all?

todays WRs are more athletic than they used to be and are much better at RAC. Do you know how hard it is to tackle a superior athlete in space? Our CBs aren't very athletic,as we all know and with the body type that we covet in our DBs I think we would be better served in a bump and run coverage especially seeing that our safeties are nowhere to be found in the passing game, again his scheme. The guy is 70 yrs old I doubt he is gonna get better. I guess we can just keep blaming it on the talent and give him a lifetime DC job. Eventually he has to go,no? . With the influx of new talent that we are trying to put together on D they need a new voice one who is in touch with today's NFL. Legendary coaches like Noll and Landry and many others were eventually politely shown the door. I don't think its unfair to Lebeau.....the bottom line is Blitzburgh is dead.
