Some coaches are better than others. Some coaches can get more from their players than others. Look at what Belichek did with Matt Cassell. He went 11-5 without Brady and Cassell looked so good he got himself a huge contract, only to fail miserably on another team. Is Tomlin perhaps not coaching Ben up? Is he giving Ben too much freedom rather than forcing him to play a certain way (such as throw the ball away instead of taking sacks)? I think so and I think it's hurting his play and hurting the team.

Certain coaches are known for getting the most out of their players. Andy Reid with QB's for example. I just don't see how Tomlin has done anything to improve any aspect of our team. I think with a great head coach, Ben would be a far better QB and we'd be a far better team

I think Ben has adjusted his game a lot. I have no problem with him holding on to the ball to long occasionally because of what he brings by extending the play but for the most part, he gets rid of it much quicker and dumps off a heck of a lot more than he use to.

Yeah right like the Rooney's would put up with a a-hole like Harbaugh, he seems to want more power as a HC.

I don't disagree with you, not one bit. And I would be inclined to bid adieu to Tomlin if one thing hasn't been constant since at least 2004: the inconsistent play of our offense. Two head coaches and I don't know how many OC's later, the inconsistent play of our offense remains constant. I attribute that to the man behind center all those years: Big Ben. He's been so good at times, but then he's also been so bad at times. We had winning records because we had a dominant defense. Now that our offense has to carry the load, we see continual 8-8 seasons with tantalizing domination against good teams, coupled with frustrating dive bombs against the cellar dwellers.

I don't want to seem like I'm making excuses for Tomlin, and I wouldn't be upset if he is canned, but I'm of the opinion that our problem lies with the up-and-down play of Ben, which he's done with a lot of coaches.

And I think Cassell in Haley's scheme with our personnel would mimic the success he had with Belicheck. I'd take Ben over Cassell any day of the week, especially with a weak defense, but there's something to be said for a solid system QB. Cassell would never put up the back-to-back 6 TD performance that Ben did, but with a good supporting cast he may not have the deep lows that Ben has, either.

Any way we cut it, we've sucked the past few seasons and something needs to change. If it's Tomlin, Coach Dad, Haley, Johnny Mitchell, or Big Ben, something needs to be done. The BA scenario slightly helped, but still, we aren't good enough on offense to stand up with the big dogs consistently.

You dont know what we have in Jarvis and Shazier yet. Also, Colbert drafts the players, its not all Tomlin.

Will you be saying that 2 years from now if these guys have still been mostly injured and played little? I mean, staying healthy counts for something. JJ had health concerns coming out (as well as other concerns) but we drafted him anyway. If he can't get healthy, it's a bad pick, regardless of what he could do if he was healthy. I think it was a bad pick for our system, just like Ziggy Hood was a wasted pick. Unless Tomlin plans on switching to the 4-3 for next year, then I can see JJ being more of a fit on this team. In our current system, he's not going to get the job done

That's true, I've only been a fan of this team since 1972. No memorabilia for you! Maybe I'll take my ass all the way down the road to OK.

JJ's injury concerns coming out of college had to do with Stenosis, breaking his risk can happen to anyone. 2 years from now I expect to have a better idea about them, passing judgment on them now is extremely premature. In 2 years if they have been nothing but injury prone, it's bad luck, you can't foresee that.

I expect both to be good players though.

I couldn't STAND him as a player. That is is the reason I don't like him now. I understand that he can coach but I just personally dislike him. The same thing goes for the big mouthed, most losing coach since 2012, who has a 44-48 record as a head coach, in New York. I mean I REALLY don't like that guy either.

Great Post. But it's hard for us outsiders to genuinely know how intensely Coach T develops and motivates key players to win. If only there was a clear representative visual of Coach T's influence and style of leadership w/ Ben (the team)?

Definitely wouldn't want any Harbaugh coaching the Steelers. I want our football seasons to be about Blitzburgh not the circus/egotism that would surround a more intense "Harballs" rivalry. The thought of "can't win in the playoffs without" Belicheating as coach is equally distasteful. Dungy is another passive players coach that failed time and again on the big stage... Tony deserves some gratitude for his contributions in that '78 SB season but as a coach? PASS.

In 2003 we scored 18.8 points a game.

It's as if some people live in an alternate universe where Ben hasn't been at the very least a top 10 QB since the day he first took a snap in the NFL.
