On the local radio they were talking about where Jim Harbaugh will end up. One guy called in and said that he thinks the Steelers could be a dark horse in the race if the team finishes .500 or misses the playoffs again. So it had me thinking about it. What do yall think? One think you could bet on is that the PC press conferences after a loss would go out the window.

No thanks. The only reason to watch the 9ers now is to see if Jim's head will actually explode!

I have no idea why so many Steeler fans hate Jim Harbaugh. Can someone enlighten me on that? I think he's a great coach, and has yet to take his team to anything less than a conference championship game. I think Harbaugh vs. Harbaugh 2-3 times/ year would be awesome.

I would rather him than what we have now, he took a laughingstock 49ers from cellar to super bowl in 2 seasons, this team needs some kind of leader at the helm and Tomlin isn't it.

throw Rex Ryan in there as the new DC, and we could have the #1 reality show

I can't speak for others but, for me, it's his whining, giant ego. Never liked him as a player either. If a change is to be made, I'd rather see a Bellicheck type

I want a guy who wins. Period. Bellichick is one of a kind. There's only so much dark side of the force to go around.

Who cares about personality, I want a coach that knows how to win. Harbaugh seems to know how to win. Who cares if he comes across as having a big ego. Belichek has a huge ego too I'm sure

You guys say you want a coach that wins and we have one that has taken them to 2 SB's and advocating for a guy who hasn't won anything

You can't turn around and say it was because of the players Tomlin inherited because you constantly shoot down when others say its player execution. Or is it just that it's the coaches fault when they lose and the players when they win?

Amazing, Tomlin has never had a losing season, the only other coach to do that in the last 13 years is Belichick.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but SF is 7-5 right now as well.... He was also mediocre at Stanford with just one good year..... where's the upside? I never cared for Harbaugh as a player.... so I doubt he's changed much as a coach. No thanks.

    This.

I mean really. Who cares? Are we fans going out to dinner with him on a regular basis that his personality matters? The ONLY thing that matters is performance and W's. Period.

You've have to excuse me if I don't consider 8-8 to be a successful season. If you don't make the playoffs, it's a losing season, I don't care what the record is. We've been mediocre for quite a few years now and there's no improvement in sight. Sure, we have addes some serious talent, but yet we keep on going down the road to mediocrity. We have more talent on the offensive side of the ball than most other teams in the league. It's unacceptable that we don't score more than we do

You know what BF, I have argued on behalf of Tomlin when people have discredited his early success by saying things like "he won with Cowher's players and assistant coaches." As I watch this team play maddeningly inconsistent football for almost 3 years now, I'm having trouble supporting that argument. The same issues keep popping up, and they point to leadership (or a lack thereof). Tomlin has done nothing with a top 5-10 QB at the helm, and a roster that has 10+ win potential. I'm under no disillusion that we have a legitimate SB roster right now, but we saw that there's a solid talent level in the wins over Indy and Baltimore - only to then struggle to get a TD (in garbage time) against the Jets. If this were a well coached team, the loss to Tampa would have been the wake up call to take care of business in games against struggling teams. I could have handled a 35-32 loss to the Saints if it had been a real 35-32 score. However, it was really a blowout loss after dominating the first quarter. This team routinely goes through 2+ quarter stretches of games where they play stupid, lackluster football, and things get away from them. There seems to be no cohesiveness, no response to what other teams are doing successfully and no answer to the lengthy funks. IMO that points to a coaching deficiency.

Tomlin cam prove me wrong if we win our last 3 AFC ages, make the playoffs and play a solid 1st round game - win or lose. At this point, I don't think that will happen. More likely we'll see these inexplicable 2+ quarter mega-funks occur in at least 2 of our last 4 games, and we'll be on the outside looking in yet again. We'll be able to point to the inexcusable Jets and Bucs losses, and know that a win in either one would have been the difference between being in and out. The inconsistency has become amazingly consistent.

Also, in direct comparison between Harbaugh and Tomlin - Harbaugh is a builder. It's irrefutable that he took a floundering franchise and IMMEDIATELY brought it to championship contention - with world beater Alex Smith as his QB, and then "two reads is too much for me" Colin Kaepernick as the successor. Tomlin has built absolutely nothing in his career as a coach. Zip. He took over a team with a superior core of veterans and top tier assistant coaches, and he won. I've praised him for that, but this is now. Now that we need building, we're seeing ample evidence of a team that has no clear direction week to week. If you truly believe that we are in building mode, I can't see how you wouldn't want a proven builder like Harbaugh over a guy who's never built anything.

How 'bout these guys that knew how to win: Bellicheck, Walsh, Noll, Landry, Dungy............never had to worry about them stroking out or crying about calls not going their way.

It's only been two seasons, one really when you consider the first 8-8 season was because we lost Ben. Verdict is still out on whether they make the playoffs or not this season, if they do, thats an improvement over the last 2 seasons and a sign of going in the right direction.

What has Harbaugh built? He's shown he is a much better coach than singletary but I don't really know what he has built and this year he is 7-5, same as us.

Doesn't matter, he's not the coach the Steelers would ever bring in, that's not their MO, he'd cost too much and they like to go with unknowns.

I just want some consistency, some passion. I have no idea who is to blame for the lack of either of those on this team. I could care less if we lose. The Pats lost on Sunday but they played hard until the end. No one seems to know how to adjust anything on this team and that has to start somewhere.

Harbaugh is such an awesome coach that San Francisco wants to get rid of him after 3 playoff seasons and possibly a 4th. That should speak volumes about the guy. He might be a great coach, but he's such an ass they want him gone.

They should put Harbaugh on the pre-game show with Ditka and just watch the fireworks! It'd be bigger than MMA and the WWE combined!

I think we need to look at our position coaches and scout department. It seems like we are not bring in another quality players or the coaches aren't developing them to their potential. No one from 08 draft still on the roster, it has taken us several years to get a decent offensive line and still they aren't a top 10 group, defensively we have stuggle with drafting and developing cornerbacks. How many people in our secondary would start on the Broncos, Patriots, or Green Bay. I know that's not the perfect example but I hope you get my meaning.

Ben sets the tone and the tone was off key in all of our losses this year. Ben needs to play better. Tomlin can leave anytime. We would not miss him.

    That's one heckuva post!

While I'm too far on the outside looking in to really have a solid opinion on Tomlin, I do think this team only goes as far as Ben leads them. And I'm confident that I'd still be singing that tune no matter who our HC is.

If it can be proven that Tomlin or any of our coaches are hindering the play of Ben, then they need to go. If not, well, let them stay because if we start doing the unnecessary coaching shuffle we start to lose credibility with potential hires. I don't think we land a guy like Munchak if our rep for stability isn't where it is.

I'd be all for it, but there's a better chance that I will be named LeBeau's replacement as DC.
