Read that he lead them to 59 of 60 wins against weaker opponents. Was 29-26-1 against teams above .500 and was 13-4 in the postseason over an 8 year period starting in 72. We sure could use some of that sub level winning right now

That loss bothered me more the next day than it did while it was unfolding, it was just so comical.

The speeches probably went like this:

    Back in the Noll days.
Listen you clown wannabees we just lost to a very mediocre team that had no business being on the same field as this great talent that we have. If you think that I'm going to put up with this garbage anytime during your career then you might as well go home and pack you bags for another city with a different team and some other head coach that will tolerate such incompetency! Get here 30 minutes early and start running laps. Any Questions?

    Tomlin Times.
Obviously we have to perform better, Left too many plays on the field. Need to protect the football better. We'll learn from it and move on.

Have you heard Rocky Bleier talk about Noll's team speeches?

I think you might be a bit far off with this...

Coach Noll wasn't a speech guy.

Not a big deal because if we win tonight we will be in first place in the Division, and we can stay in 1st place during the bye week if the bungholes lose next sunday, just worry about winning this division and let the seeding take care of it's self, the patriots are the 1 seed and the way denver is playing KC is going to win that division anyway.........

The OL of Denver is causing them huge problems, Manning likes to stay clean and Loves to be blitzed. The play of his OL has allowed Teams to get pressure with 4 and drop 7 against that Manning looks like a normal QB and not Super Man ....Is why I am a huge fan of going to a 4 man front .

It is not fair to look at Noll's entire record. He took over a terrible team while Tomlin took over a Superbowl team. Also, Noll did not get a good QB after Bradshaw. What was Noll's record against sub .500 teams from 72 to 82? That would be a fair comparison. Franchise QB vs no franchise QB is not fair.

Answered my own question: "From 71-79 the Steelers had 49 consecutive wins against teams that would finish with a losing record that year."

this type of thing infuriates me. People drawing conclusions from bs stats and inaccurate comparisons.

Comparing Noll to Tomlin really shows how pathetic it is to lose to bad teams regularly.

Tomlin should never be used in the same context at Noll, EVER.

How about this classic "Before you can win a game..... you have to not lose it"

Several teams play a hybrid 3-4 and use a 4 man front when the situation calls for it, they can stay in it if it's needed, we can go to 4 man anytime we need it.......

That's what I am saying against Manning , Rogers, Bress, and Brady types you need to be in it all day long...And hard to just jump in and out of a D and be the most effective ....Yes we can get in a 4 man front , but just how good of a 4 man front will it be ?

As of 2014, NFL teams that regularly incorporate the 3–4 defensive alignment scheme include the Cleveland Browns, San Diego Chargers,Green Bay Packers, Baltimore Ravens,Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals,Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Redskins, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints,Philadelphia Eagles, Tennessee Titans andHouston Texans.

Not on that list 3 of the top 5 Teams in the NFL vs. the pass....I think it should be more like 5 out of 5 because I think KC and the 49rs stay in a base 4 more than they do a 3 man front....Not sure yet about those 2 , but I go watch some rewind and get a true snap count .....If it shows that those 2 Teams run more base 4 that would be the top 5 Teams in the NFL against the pass run more 4 man fronts than 3 ....And that would lend great support to a 4 man front being better suited against the pass..

I'm reluctant to get into this, because Noll is the best but comparing what Noll did with that 70's team against Tomlins teams is apples and oranges. Tomlins roster couldn't carry the 70's team jock. You're also talking about a decade where there was no free agency and could keep HOF players together for the length of their careers.

On the subject of carrying Jocks, Tomlin can't carry Nolls but lets keep comparisons fair.
