Now, THAT'S football! I don't know how they flagged that. He hit Sanders in the chest/shoulder area.

Was it flagged? 10x worse than the hits Troy and Mitchell got flagged for defenseless receiver.

You mean, "that's today's football." Perfectly clean hit, without it would be a big play by Denver. Instead, it's a penalty.

Emmanual hopefully knew before he signed the contract that those type hits come with the territory of being Peyton Manning's receiver. He's been putting WR's at risk for years for possible decapitation. Brady does it just as well.

Broncos took a beating today. They also lost Thomas their TE and their starting RB.

Thats a defenseless receiver hit if I've ever seen one. Should have been flagged and a big time fine.

I'm so glad I grew up watching defenses like ours, the Raiders and '85 Bears.

That was a great hit and so was the one later on in the game that was on Caldwell.

That hit on Sanders shouldn't have been flagged as there was no contact to the head or neck area. The hit on Caldwell wasn't flagged and rightfully so, it was a great hit to the body.

That Rams defence is vicious. They absolutely beat up the Broncos

It looks the flag was already being thrown for it,maybe a bit early, like the ref knew it was coming.

Doesn't matter, Sanders was a defenseless reciever.

vicious hit, and the ref totally blew the penalty.... they called a helmet to helmet hit when the hit was clearly on the shoulder pads..
it also changed the game... sanders was the only weapon the rams couldn't stop

Exactly. I get it, everyone misses old time football but that wasn't even close to being legal.

Also, even if the whole defenseless receiver rule didn't exist, wouldn't that at least have been PI?

Were 2 flags thrown on the play because there's a flag that comes out before the hit?

I only saw the one flag, the early flag, it was easy for the ref to see he was going to light up a defenseless receiver. If there was a second flag, maybe it was PI, can't touch a receiver while he is attempting to catch the ball and he laid him out.

I thought maybe there was a flag for like illegal contact or something and that was the early one. The play only shows just a second of what happened. It looked like that flag came out before Sanders was even touched or the guy that hit him had even engaged. That's why I was curious about that. Also Peyton Hillis is out of the season with a concussion on a MUCH lesser of a hit than that and it honestly wouldn't surprise me if Sanders suffers the same fate. That was brutal man.

First flag was pass interference, second flag was the personal foul. Defenseless receiver is the correct call. The NFL changed that rule a couple years ago, and like it or not, you can't hit or launch at a defenseless player....

if a player illegally launches into a defenseless opponent. It is an illegal launch if a player (1) leavesboth feet prior to contact to spring forward and upward into his opponent, and (2) uses any part of hishelmet (including the top/crown and forehead/”hairline” parts) to initiate forcible contact against anypart of his opponent’s body.

It does matter. What rule says a defenceless receiver can't be hit at all? I'm not aware of any such rule. McLeod didn't hit Sanders in the head or neck area, nor did he launch into Sanders. He hit him shoulder to shoulder with one foot on the ground. By all means, show me what rule says this was an illegal hit?

As for PI, that was bogus too. Watch the replay, the hit happens at the same time the ball gets there. It was a perfectly timed hit
